Operation Shock & Awe
Underground Cobra Lair diorama at the 7th Philippine Toy Con Hi guys, would just like to share some photos of our group project codenamed "Operation SHOCK and AWE" presented last June 14-15, 2008 during the 7th Philippine Toy Con here in Manila. Key points: - Everything is modular. We can interchange the three different modules anytime during the exhibit (which we did every three hours..making this one of the most visited and most viewed booths in the convention). - Dimension is 6 feet long by 2 feet tall by 2 feet wide. - The middle-eastern town is merely a front for Cobra's terrorist activity. - One of the houses (shells) has a hidden elevator that goes directly underground. It leads to a vast Cobra lair complex. - Cobra Commander is being videotaped by a couple of televipers, a live feed of which is broadcasted worldwide. If his demands are not met, he has enough plutonium-tipped warheads (WMDs/weapons of mass destruction) to nuke the entire North American continent and a huge supply of biochemical warfare for good measure. - A dedicated ledge for a Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow fight scene. - Separate section for the missiles stash and toxo/biohazard-lab. - Space for some troopers and vipers. - Communications bay. - The first ever "hoe-pit" for Pimp Daddy Destro. What's a pimp without them ladies? ;-) Captions for every Photo Attached 1 Concept & Sketch 2-4 During the Dio Construction 5 The Modular Parts 6-7 During the Presentation More detailed pics of the different scenes to be posted within the follwing posts: Toy Soldier crew on hand for this project Dialtone, chrysophylax, Ice, Castle, Steelbrig, Papabear, Firefly, Ebonsaber

A little known fact about this diorama was that we made subtle changes to it after every 3 hours. (Remember, it is Modular).
We had characters moving around from place to place, changing positions, even changing uniform designs! (See the new Storm Shadow in the first picture as compared to the DDP Storm Shadow in the post above) Set 4 pictures shows some interchanged scenes We also included some "hidden jokes" in our dio set-up. Some of which are not noticeable. Here are some of them as shown in Set 5 1 AVP Final Scene 2 Batman appearing in a Wrong Cave 3 Princess Amidala (Padme) 4-8 Deadpool Teleports (A lot) We hope that you like this one. Thanks for looking!

FINAL THOUGHTS
1. Most of the material that we used were leftover stuff that we recycled into looking something more appealing to the eyes. ;-).The cardboard was taken from old desk calendars, the paper from various brown papers used as wrappers. The posts from old fax paper & toilet paper tubes. I think the only new parts were the polystyrene sheets for the walls & floor. We spent roughly Php 1700 or US $40 (for everything else..i.e. foil, acrylic paint, styro sheets, spray paint, etc). Not bad huh? :-D 2. The Sky B.A.T.s were repainted by TS118 site admin Chrysophylax aka Ole Fearless aka The Chief. :-D 3. We spent a total of 30 man hours spread across a 3-week period. We can only do this after office hours as most of us are too busy in the morning. We were quite lucky that one of our members is a manager in his company and let us stash the dio set-up while we're not working on it. He's the same guy who built most of the structures (i.e. hoe pit, houses, elevator and shaft, ledges, comm bay, etc)..Gideon aka Ice. :-D 4. The figs from the hoe-pit were from Dead Or Alive set. They're somewhat articulated but not too poseable. Great as hoes for a pimp though. :-D We're actually compiling a slideshow of how we were able to complete this project. With the mods' blessings, we'd like to post them here a few days from now. Hope they'd let us. It would feature everything from drafting the design, getting the right members within TS118 to form the Build Team as we'd like to call them, securing pledges from the members i.e. accessories, troopers, etc (Pledge Team), transporting the dio from staging area to the toycon site, actual mounting of the set-up, and finally, the heart-wrenching task of taking it down. :-D This project really was a learning experience for all of us here at Toy Soldier 1:18. And it also made us a more "cohesive", and experienced group as we want to label ourselves right now. Currently, we are working on a bigger project. We will be posting work-in-process pictures in the coming days, and of course, the whole set again once we are finished. Thanks again for looking.

The dio looks great and add to that you al only spent $40 makes it even better.
I dig the pistures of all the scenes but the last set of pics takes the cake for sure. The IG blocking the door from Baroness, I think I pee'd alil when I saw that. Deadpool rocks, whoever did that customs needs to post a recipe for it. Looks like hes just strolling around the Cobra Cave screwing with everything. Cant wait to see what you guys cook up next.
