I bought a Cobra Rage second hand at a local comic/toy shop. I wasn't familiar with the vehicle, but it had promise. To me it had an almost post apocalyptic design that I thought with a little work would be a vehicle deserving of the Dreadnoks. This is a work in progress.
This is what the original looked like: YOJOE.COM | Cobra Rage Left View I added styrene "armor plates" to the doors to hide the vulnerable open grill of the original. I cut 1/8" ABS plastic to form the spikes on the front armor shield. I bought a pair of cheap 4x4 trucks to replace the tires from the original. That was the one thing I hated on this vehicle. The original tires were tapered & smooth, making them useless on almost all terrain. I used the light bar off of one of the 4x4's. Last edited by Bamphalas; 08-18-2008 at 09:44 PM.. |

I glued a variety of extra bits onto the hull to add some extra details (such as the rivets on the front end). Using an Xacto knife and a soldering iron, I made bullet holes, rough edges & battle scars across the body of the vehicle.
I am still in the process of painting the Dreadnok Rage. Currently the main body is Rustolleum Metallic Black & details are Krylon Fusion "Camo Green". I am painting smaller details with Model Master Olive Drab and Citadel Silver. It will have additional painted details as well as labels. |

I think the single biggest improvement is the wheels and tires. Where did you say those came from? Nice work so far.

That is one heck of an improvment. My 'noks would be happy to roll into battle in that monster any day.... Hasbro sure has a way of taking good designs on vehicles and just making a joke of them with their crazy paint schemes, you really turned that around.

Freaking awesome. I absolutely love the upgrades. It makes me want to kit-bash more vehicles. In particular, the G.I.Joe Wolverine, the Cobra Adder, and the Cobra IMP always bothered me because the drivers were openly exposed to the rocket exhaust of their missiles. (Stupidly designed.)

Took me a long time to find the wheels. The ideal size for this vehicle is 1.75" in diameter. Everything I found in retail stores were either too small or monster huge. Then while on vacation in North Carolina I stopped by a flea market and happened upon a pair of cheapo plastic trucks. No real name brand (4x4 Overlord), just some Chinese toys from an "import" shop. I used a total of eight tires to achieve the beefy look.
