Well, first of all, Monte, most of these figs you've shown us don't fit my definition of LBC's! Sometimes those "simple" parts-swaps and accessory changes make a figure 10x better. These ALL look great!
Secondly, even though I don't collect it, I think S6 is cool, and I like your customs! I've seen some killer S6 customs. I've been tempted to collect it several times, and have been able to resist, as I don't need to open that can of worms. Very nice work! Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, Fireflyguy! Honestly, I am a big fan of LBCs, too, and I don't think there's anything wrong with mine, or with LBCs in general. I'm just careful to make it very clear that these are mostly not painted or sculpted; I'm happy with the work I've done on these, but some of the people who sculpt and paint their figures produce work that I find absolutely humbling.
Also, some people are what I'd call volatile where the word "custom" is concerned. I once placed a WWE vest on a Marvel Legends Lizard figure for a quick Mondo Gecko stand-in to accompany my Neca Ninja Turtles, and when I introduced it as a "custom" on the Techno Drome forum, some guys on there lost it, ha ha ha. I hadn't been trying to fool anyone; Marvel Legends is arguably the most popular series of toys ever, so I assumed everyone would know Mondo Gecko was essentially a "found art" deal, but they threw a fit because I dared to present it as a custom, and while I thought they were a bunch of histrionic buttheads, I also decided they had a point; nothing wrong with a bit of humility. |

Here's Clutch (based on the brown repaint of the original vintage ARAH figure):

Remember my melted Wraith, who burned a Joe alive and wears his melted, blackened suit to mock his fellow Joes?
He's an attempt to recreate this guy: The composition in this one is absurd, but I've always liked it, nonetheless: EDIT: I tracked down these great illustrations from Tenime_Art at Joe Battlelines: He asked me to make a Souvenir for him, too, which is why an early entry in my trader feedback thread at JBL reads, "Thankfully, I came home to a package. A package from Idaho that smelled of blood and napalm." Last edited by Monte Williams; 07-13-2014 at 09:35 AM.. |

This one's not mine, either. MacGuyver at Joe Battlelines put one just like it together and I was so impressed that I asked her to make another one so's I could buy it.
I realize it's silly to post other people's customs in my kitbash thread, but I've benefited from their talent, so why not share the love? Last edited by Monte Williams; 07-13-2014 at 09:36 AM.. |

I'm a big ol' Bravestarr nerd, and I whipped together a defiantly inaccurate Sigma Bravestarr custom that I'll post here in a minute. (I've put together a small-scale one, too, but it pretty much sucks, especially compared to Tankster's badass Bravestarr).
This is the equally wildly inaccurate Tex-Hex: Last edited by Monte Williams; 07-13-2014 at 09:37 AM.. |

I found that adding some Jetwing Duke pants to this guy made him much cooler, and I lucked into some shovels and such to give him plenty of gear:
That's what I set out to recreate with my various small-scale Tunnel Rat customs, but the small-scale versions have become their own entity, and I think that's for the best. While I could never hope to replicate existing designs (even my own) without the ability to paint or sculpt, I also like allowing myself the freedom to reinterpret a design as loosely as I see fit. He's hiding in this shot: This next photo is from my first-ever outdoor toy photo shoot: It's brutal, ha ha ha. That said, like I stated elsewhere here at the Tank, for all my obliviousness and lack of talent, my enthusiasm was boundless back then, and every pose and angle and composition was new. I miss that excitement, although toy photography still gives me a ridiculous amount of pleasure. I thought my enthusiastic, clumsy younger self deserved a second chance, so three years later I reproduced that photo: Last edited by Monte Williams; 07-13-2014 at 09:39 AM.. |

You've tolerated my lazy customs, you've tolerated my tendency to post thirty updates at once, and you've tolerated my occasional tendency to post customs that aren't even mine, so I'm hoping you won't mind if I post one non-Joe "custom".
Starscream triumphant! A disproportionate number of my customs utilize fire rather than paint. Don't worry, I had two Megatrons, thanks once again to Bill. This was his Starscream, in fact; I was briefly obsessed with Transformers Animated, but I never got a Starscream. Last edited by Monte Williams; 07-13-2014 at 09:40 AM.. |

You might recall that I like to think that my small-scale Duke (the one who is seemingly daring Major Bludd to reach for his uzi) is among the most badass Duke figures out there.
Here's his predecessor: A rare indoor shot: Last edited by Monte Williams; 07-13-2014 at 09:41 AM.. |
