picked up Scrap Irons classic gear for my custom contest entry...also i added the Cobra sigil to his arm and sculpted a red shirt on him and repainted his head/neck...
here he is with the classic fig...seeing them together makes me long for the forethcoming "Scrap Iron" in the arctic set just so i can have his helmet Last edited by G.I.Eddie; 07-18-2008 at 11:40 PM.. |

First off I have to say I love this custom. I was thinking of doing one myself with a bit of a different formula than you used. I was wondering if some of the parts that you used were chosen so that you didn't have to paint them, such as the Cobra Viper torso, if so I totally understand and it's a great idea.
As far as what I would have done a bit differently is that I think I would have used Ace's or Wild Bill's torso and then painted it blue with the red shirt showing underneath. I think their torso has the collar opened more to reveal the shirt underneath like the original ARAH Scrap Iron did. For the lower arms and hands I would have used them from the Snake Eyes mold because they have that stretch fitting cuff like the original Scrap Iron figure had as well. I totally see why you went with the Viper arms though because Scrap Iron has those pads on his elbows. For the upper arms I would have went with the any Cobra trooper that already had a Cobra symbol on the shoulder. I know that they have them on their left shoulder and Scrap Iron has his on his right shoulder, but I guess I wouldn't care just as long as it looked good and I didn't have to paint one on. By the way the red parts that you have used for him are right on. Did you use some of the Viper's vest? I was thinking of using it as it was and just painting it red. It looks like you have modified it a bid. How did you make the belt as well as those straps that wrap around the crotch area? I think they are great and I don't have the skills to do that so I would have had to improvise. How did you make his helmet? I would have just cut the gas mask off of the Cobra Air Trooper's mask and painted the helmet black. You did a good job on the one you made.

You did a good job on the one you made. i hadn't thought of the troopers arm with the sigil on it, much better idea...you could even swap the left upper arm to the right side and it would still be fine...the vinyl decal just is too blobby...and yes, i used the Viper lowers to get the forearm pads on him...i just modded on different hands...SE's could work well with some sculpting, or without really... the red straps on his crotch are actually the straps of Red Stars harness...i had no idea how i was gonna do that part and then all of sudden his gear was staring me in the face... his helmet was made from a rebel fighter pilot...modded obviously..i trimmed the Cobra symble from a Viper belt and added it to the front of the helmet...really it's the part of him that bugs me the most and i can't wait to have a proper one fo him |

Great job! Nice use of Red Star's gear. Did you have extra or did you just start cutting up your only one? I ask to see how others felt about it. When I modified my Steeler harness, just before I started cutting, I became a little hesitant because it was my only one.

Take a small amount of green stuff and attach it to a piece of styrene. This will be your Push Stamp. Dip the helmet in water making sure to get the symbol area wet. Take the helmet/symbol and press it into the green stuff. Remove the helmet/symbol immediately, making sure the green stuff has captured all the details. If the helmet/symbol sticks too much, reset the green stuff, wet the helmet/symbol, and try again. Let the push stamp dry/cure, and then trim the excess being careful not to harm the details. Now take the helmet that you want to have the symbol and add a small amount of green stuff to it. Wet your push stamp and then push it into the green stuff. Remove the push stamp, trim the symbol, and you should have an Cobra symbol like the original. |
