Hey guys, haven't actually started this project, but wanted to get some input...
Project Hovercraft Take a look at that link and tell me, doesn't it look like it could all fit into a converted WHALE fairly easily? Set up servos to control the wind vanes, with a little retrofitting, and work on the texture of the skirt so that it looks much like the stock WHALE when fully inflated. How COOL would it be to have a WORKING Joe scale WHALE?!? Can I get an AMEN? the blonde weasel |

Sounds cool, but will it have 2 propellers on the back or just the one

Well it would have to have two propellors in the back to make it look like the real thing.
It sounds like his problems "overcoming newtonian physics" could be solved by using two counter-rotating fans for lift, and two counter-rotating fans for propulsion. And setting up adjustible pitch on the blades (not sure how realistic that is) or use a reversible 3-phase motor. I'm going to start looking into this. Will keep everyone updated as developments warrant. the blonde weasel |

I tend to think there will be two problems:
-Airflow. Since it rides on a cushion of air, it will need intake which would likely be covered by the whale body - Weight. The upper body of the whale may be too heavy to be lifted by the propellor in that model. Very cool idea, and I would say try to build the styrofoam one first to get an idea of the details. Then its a matter of how much you can cover up or add to the mass before it doesn't lift. |
