use Acrylic paints, models masters is about the best you can get, and seal using an acryllic sealer, gloss, semi-gloss(which i preferas it doesnt make it too shinny but still nice) or dull coat. Also you can lightly sand certain joint areas to its got a tiny gap so it helps prevent paint wear but still leaves the joints relatively tight.

sand, prime and paint with really thin coats to avoid gobs at contact points, then use thin sprays of clear coat with dullcote on top to get the right sheen.
I also found that if you take your time and let every coat dry completely, per instructions, and not just until you think it's dry, it keeps from chipping. Another thing you can do is soak and wash the figure in soapy water. I'll use dish detergent as it's designed specifically to cut grease. While you're painted figure might come out right without this step. This can assure that the first coat is adhering to the figure's surface and not just air drying on top. |

prep is the most important, sand and prime before you paint. Also don't hurry let em dry overnight or a whole day.
