Here's my take on Short-Fuze. After seeing what we're getting with the battle pack later in the year, I wanted to take a stab at it.
The glasses are crafted by hand - I hope they're not too goofy-looking. I think they look better in person than up-close with the camera. I also made the straps from pieces of other harnesses. EDIT: I changed one pic to show him with a belt. The lighting was a little different for this new picture. I'll be able to get his mortar from the battle pack later.

The glasses look great! How'd you make them? Maybe add a Rock n Roll belt to complete the look. Did you have to repaint him? What color did you use? Great job - I like it!

Awesome work! Yes, please tell us how you made the glasses and what color you used to paint him.

I made the glasses with wires from twist-ties. The frames around the "lenses" was thicker, almost like a paper-clip but more malleable. The over-the-ear part was a thin twist-tie wire - the kind from a loaf of bread. I shaped them then curled the thin ones around the thicker one. I also used a safety pin to poke small holes above the ears. The ends of the glasses actually stick into his head. Then I painted them black. Yeah, a rock'n'roll belt may look good, although I don't like the way it doesn't quite clasp all the way at the front. I'll try it, though. The upper body is TRU 3 pack grunt (different hands, though), and the lower body is TF Flint's (I have plenty of those sitting around). I repainted the entire body using Testors Model Master acryl color dunkelgrun. It's pretty much dead on with the factory color of the 25th rock 'n' roll.

Here's a close-up of the glasses. Looks like I missed a few spots with the paint! It's amazing what you can see up close.
Like I said, I definitely like them better from normal viewing distance.

Here's a pic of the back of his harness. I used parts (long straps and claps) from extra Ace gear I had. The front of the harness is the back of a typical one (I think it was Hawk's) with the center piece turned upside-down.

the glasses look really good...your harness looks good too....i hope Hasbro makes their harness similar to the classic...if you take a regular SE type harness and cut the belt off you can then also gently cut the cross piece and save for later...then take the four ends and pull them around to the back and glue them to spare clasp (scarletts works best) one end to each side so it ends up looking like an "X"...when you have it in place where you like it, take the cross piece you cut earlier and glue it to the desired possision...this makes a nice tight fit that doesn't move much at all and it's more one piece...
hope you don't mind my tip Last edited by G.I.Eddie; 07-04-2008 at 04:41 PM.. |
