I''ve already messed up a few of my 25th figures trying to take apart. I've noticed many custom figures on the Tank, some Kick ass ones I might add. Can anyone explain exactly how to take apart the torso w/out messing up the figure.
Also what's the best way to paint them/ type of paint. I've tried Acrylics but notice myself having to give it too many coats, giving it a not so good texture as a final product, and can't imagine adding a primer to small detailed parts.

There are 3 ways to take the figures apart shown here:

The exacto knife way is the best way in my opinion.
Acrylics are the best paints to use. Citadel, Tamiya or Testors Model Makers are 3 great paints to use. Tamiya spray paint is a must for vehicles (Again, IMO) You'll have to use a lot of coats if you're painting a lighter color on a darker color (I had this problem with my Joe seal customs painting yellow over black plastic) in this case you may want to use a light colored primer of some sort

It takes practice and gets easier the more you do it. The key for me is the hot water. At first I didn't leave them in long enough and as a result I really tore up some torsos trying to get the glue to separate.
I picked up a nice little set of exacto knives at Big Lots for $4 that work great. A small dremel tool is almost imperative if you are going to do any grinding, cutting, drilling, etc. I have also had the best results reattaching the torso using Loctite Gel control Super glue (blue bottle). I used regular super glue initially and ended up losing mobility in the figure due to it running down on to the arms.
I picked up a set of 24 acrylic paints at wal-mart for around $10 and a can of spray on clear acrylic sealer for about $4. They work just fine for me.
