Kumite -The Tournament Begins!

Thanks again to all the customizers that entered (and helped out) to make this such an awesome contest!

Kumite Fun Facts:

· I started working on this contest while hosting the Undisputed Ninja Master Custom Contest last year. I wanted to have a martial arts contest with more than just ninja.
· The customizers and the board had 3 of the same fighters in their top 5 (Wu-Shi, Xiao Hu, and Reaper).
· 11 of the customizers who entered had Wu-Shi in their top 5 .
· Customizer top 5 – Wu-Shi, Ghost Tiger, Xiao Hu, Reaper, Siege.
· Board top 5 – Xiao HU, Wushi, Gikan, Reaper, Bakemono.
· This was the first custom contest that I hosted in which the customizers who entered decided who won.
· It wasn’t easy deciding on the Chosen One. Well written bios, custom execution (design, parts, paints), and unique custom weapons were some of the criteria that I used to make my decision.
· Jade and Purple Hunt were the only female fighters in the tournament.
· The former Kumite Champ, Yuki no Kuro Uma translated to English means ‘The Irrepressible Dark Horse’. Dark Horse is the moniker for an exceptional customizer whose head I used for the champ (Tri-Gate custom cast). He tends to look like Wolverine so I made the champ resemble him too.
· Each of the 8 extra fighters that I made had one of the weapons from the Kumite Custom Weapons Packs.
· Tatsuya, Iwao, and Daisuke are all ninja in the Daremo Ninja Clan. Iwao is the only completed figure.
· John Doe is my Nth Man (by Larry Hama) wip.
· Ni Stoplock is really Shin-Gouki (Shin->Knee->Ni, Go->Stop, Ki->Key->Lock).
· Sticks was the first all black ninja that I made.
· Yasuo was my Arashikage Ninja based on Marvel issue #26.
· Kung Fu Kid is my self custom.
· Bakemono was a complete unkown coming into the tournament.
· CUD was the only custom that had a monogrammed belt buckle. This was hands down the funniest custom. Death bell? Classic!
· Xiao Hu became the People’s Choice after an extra day of voting up against Wu-Shi.
· Wu-Ta has 43 Arashikage to go.
· Jackson Fury is the brother of Bryan Fury of Tekken fame.
· The Arena names for each round (Earth, Fire, Air, Water, Void) are based on the 5 elements in Japanese philosophy.
· Master Tao vs Xiao Hu would have been a great fight!
· Kojo ‘Snake’ Masters was the only fighter to be in professional sports.
· Going by the bios, there were only 4 ninja in the tournament (Reaper, Wu-Ta, Gikan, Purple Hunt)
· Siege beat a ninja in the tournament.
· Gikan was the only O-ring custom figure in the contest. The customizers ranked him #9 while the board had him at #3.
· The Apprentice, Reaper, was DonMagic’s first completed custom.
· El Conquistador, Gatos, Purple Hunt, Hrothmeir, and Bearclaw were also considered for The Apprentice award.
· Hrothmeir had 2 different outfits.
· Hard Knox placed exactly in the middle of all the entries.
· Ghost Tiger was more popular with the customizers than the board. Strange.
· In the next Kumite tournament, any character that entered the first tournament will be able to compete again. It will be bigger and better.
