well, its that time again, here's the skinny!!
1) HASBRO TOUR!!! One big Giant Bag of Awesome!!! it was wonderful to see all the inside info on how the figures get made, the archives, the opportunely to talk directly to employees... AWESOME!!! 2) Rhode Island I have to say, the set up was a PERFECT location. Granted being this far East made it difficult for the Midwestern people to get here (no excuses, I flew from Boston to Texas with no problem), But having the hotel, convention center, and mall with SEVERAL restaurants, cheap eats, Bars, and "clubs" well withing a safe walking distance from the Con Hotels, as well as slightly cheaper hotels nearby to the Con Spot. Excellent choice! 3) Panels and Guests The guests this year were GREAT! it was wonderful learning about the ins and outs of the origins of all the lines (original joe, RAH, ETC). Not to mention they were gracious guests, and WONDERFUL to talk to. I loved seeing exactly what goes into making the club figures, and the panel on comic book storytelling. ..And Larry Hama is always a cool character! 4) JOEBROS!!!!!!!!! EVERY WAKING MINUTE of Joecon where I wasn't volunteering (Yes Becky, I still owe you a half Hour) or at a seminar, I was hanging out with all my Joebros. there was almost 50 of us at the After registration dinner from across the Boards.. even a few random people hung out with us.. It was a cool experience! 5)CLUB Deals yeah, people are always complaining about the exclusive figs are expensive (but if you attended the roundtable, you'd know why) but the deals att he club store were AWESOME!!! ROC figures for only $2.50 Entire cases of figs for 15 bucks! cases of the Bravo vehicles for 18!! hell, the CLUB price for the SDCC Destro 2 pack was CHEAPER than HASBRO'S BOUTIQUE!!!!!! 6) The Unofficial activities From the hanging out in friends rooms, to the cool conversations in the hotel lobby, to the Room to room trading.. to .... the stuff I cant write about on a family friendly board... Joecon attendees know how to have Fun!!! 7) Hasbro and the club Loves the kids!! I love how the children were catered to, free figures for kids, a UNANNOUNCED parachute drop just for kids (with the mayor of Providence declaring Friday "G.I.Joe Day), activities for children, and Hasbro and Club employees remembering that its children that toys are made for, not just children at heart. 8) The Club is listening... this was the first year the CREDIT LINE WENT FASTER THAN THE CASH LINE!!! multiple card machines, multiple workers, more help at registration... ...now if we can only register online.... and the best thing about Joecon? 9) WE GIVE A DAMN ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE heres the story. one of the guys that roomed in my room, Death Adder, made a miscalculation.. or rather i did, I forgot tot post on my Kon Koverage that the buses and trains have a slower schedule on Saturday and Sunday. so he was going to miss his flight... unfortunately, this was around 430 and his flight was at 7, so I began asking people could they assist. ..... Hit n Run215, who is graciously choosing to go back to the military to serve our country, also served his fellow Joefan by agreeing to drive him back to Boston's Logan airport. however, thanks again to my directions (hey, I ride the public transportation) he missed his flight by SECONDS. divine intervention kicked in... and they gave him a new flight,.. without charging him! well the got back to R.I. in time for the con dinner...enjoyed it.. only to realize we had the same issue, no busses AT ALL on Sunday morning... and this time most people were in no condition to drive... who should be commended? Lody (from Hisstank) who agreed to drive him back to Boston.. and to help me find Hit n RUn215 (who had been spirited away by other joefans to send him off to war correctly!) and roshan, who donated gas money for this endeavor. divine intervention kicked in again, as we found 30 bucks in the garage! unfortunately lody got hit with a 350 speeding ticket getting our friend home... so Im gonnat try to see if our hero can be helped out But Hit n un 215, Lody, Roshan..... thank you for showing us what true.... human beings will do for their fellow humans, and showing us TRULY what the word 'Joebros" is all about... If no one else thanks you... I do. in closing.. a Special nod to the Club employees who put us with our whiney, complaining lot, and gave us a kick ass Convention... I ... excuse me.. WE appreciate it!

The sad thing about Lody's efforts is that when he took Death Adder to the airport, he got hit with a $325 speeding ticket. Lody, don't worry man, you're going to get taken care of one way or another, I'm still figuring that out.
Now on to the good stuff: Hasbro staff on tour and at the con went above and beyond being open to everyone at the con more than ever before. That tour was amazing getting to see all of the ins and outs of production. JoeDeclassified - once again showed up with an amazing assortment of items to show the community. Their continued work to showoff joe history is to be commended. KingofPain - for continuing to be the biggest pimp of the con year after year, and this year doing it with his son in tow which had to be a tight rope keeping everything in balance. The attendant at the parking garage - he only charged me 10 bucks to park in that garage for three days All of you awesome people - There were so many great joe members both new and old who really made this con the best con ever for me and I've been to a crap ton of em. |

Lody that is the definition of awesome. Well, the driving part not the ticket! If there's any type of collection effort going on someone please send me a pm.
Also, not to sound like an ass, but thanks to the women of R.I. Just standing outside the center provided plenty of.... ummmm people watching oppertunities. :p

Did Lody get tagged by a state officer or a city/town officer?

there were a ton of generous acts displayed at con this year, and I want to extend my thanks for every joe fan out there that went out of their way to enrich another's experience. The hospitality of the attendees is always beyond reproach.
You can't have a thread about positive con experiences without mentioning Gyre viper |
