So I am going to my first Joecon this year, I am wondering what should I expect. I am going mostly for the vendors, as I was told it's the best place to go to get a few parts that I can't seem to find anywhere else and some figures. Is it worth it to get a package that lets me get in Friday and early on Saturday? Thanks!

I’d say yes. You can do your shopping on Friday and then have time to attend the Kindle Worlds Author Panel (presumably) Saturday.

You could order a package and sell it for cost if you wanted. Then you get to do the Thursday night pick up if that’s something you are interested in. The paradrop is pretty cool.

Has the deadline passed for the packages?
I would suggest you search the archives here for some prior cons lessons learned so you know what to expect, how to manage your time and little tips on what to bring. A few things off the top of my head. Look at who the guests are going to be and think about having them sign things beyond the baseball card sold by the club. We had Neil Ross sign a 25th Anniversary figure, fro example. We brought an early 25th five pack to a few cons and got voices of LJ, Flint, Shhipwreck and Larry Hama to all sign the box. If you think you may buy any art work, bring a poster tube to store it in or you will invedently get it damaged. Bring a variety of cash in case the vendors network connections go out, assume the ATMs will be drained in day 1. If you cosplay, check on the policy for firearms and knives, etc... Plan for quick lunches, maybe snacks if you want to attend everything, there is not a break in the daily schedule. Attend the seminars, #1 they support the other fansthat are presenting and you may learn something.

The packages are worth it if you want the exclusives. If you're not and not looking for the anything extremely rare then chances are you will still be able to find it on Saturday and Sunday. There are usually a large amount of vendors with vintage and modern stuff so chances are more than one person will have what you're looking for. I have found that I got the best deals on Sunday because the vendors know they're going have to pack it up and bring it home otherwise.

I suppose it is never too early to start spreading rumors: There is likely to be a major announcement during the panel that will change lives. |

It was, but there are a number of other people who will be on the panel that will make people want to attend in spite of me being there.
