December 25th is a magical time to be a child. Waking up in the morning and running to the living room to see all the shiny wrapped presents under the tree just waiting to be opened is probably the most exciting day of the year for a kid. However, the actual morning of Christmas is only a portion of the entire experience. It is the entire month of December. The decorating , the shopping, and the classic movie marathons that adds so much to the joy leading up to the big day. As a G.I. Joe fan, I think many would agree the same could be said about Joe Con. This is my seventh year as a collector and member of the G.I. Joe community. Every spring, the G.I. Joe Club announces the new city location of the con and a hint of that years con set. Just like Christmas, the G.I. Joe community becomes this magical place where "joe bros" from all over the world get excited and discuss with passion what our predictions are for the con set exclusives and excitement for the convention. The weeks leading up to Joe Con are a fun time. Every week , the Club reveals a con set figure to the community that literally jump starts the love and excitement for G.I. Joe fans that reminds us of that Christmas feeling. With the 25th anniversary almost a decade in our rearview mirror, G.I. Joe has become a retail after thought. Back in the 25th anniversary glory days, a fan could go to any Joe site and join a multi page thread that was discussing the latest new wave from the latest modern G.I. Joe line. Be it 25th anniversary or the POC line for example. These days...not so much. That is until Joe Con comes around. For three months out the year, we have excitement! We have news! We have new figures to drool over and discuss! It truly is a special time of year for us. Then after weeks of reveals and excitement, we have the actual weekend of the con. Our "Super Bowl". The day we all learn what Hasbro has in store for us. Could it be a new cartoon series? A new line? Perhaps a 6in ARAH line? Who knows, we shall just have to wait and see. Isn't that half the fun? This will be my first time attending a Joe Con. I know that it will not be huge. I know it will be small and to not expect a SDCC or C2E2 gathering. That said, I am looking forward to meeting some friends that I have never had the pleasure of shaking hands with. I am looking forward to getting my con set and extra exclusives in person. I am looking forward to meeting the sunbow voice actors, checking out the hasbro displays, and hunting for some ARAH figures and vehicles in the dealer rooms. I am looking forward to being surrounded by G.I. Joe and it's community. I am at long last, going to a Joe Con...yes it is beginning to feel like that time of year indeed.
