After deciding to prune down my Modern Collection, I've decided to invest in vintage ARAH. It's pretty bare bones, but the Wild Bill, Ace, and parts of the Hawk and Footloose are left over from my childhood collection, as is the Devil Fish.
Question as a sort of (useless but maybe fun) exercise intended as a conversation starter: If this were your collection, where would you go from here? For the purose of the exercize, maybe something in the way of suggesting. 5 additional Joe figures, 8 cobra. 3 joe vehicles, 3 cobra. Just trying to get a feel for how everyone else would build a collection from something so basic. I'm not certain where to go from here myself, so maybe opinions would help using any rationale you would like to share. Thanks for looking or participating!!

What's up. Nice start. It's awesome that you can build your collection starting with your childhood Joes.
For me I Would start with the Cobra. You have mindbender Now you need CC, Zartan, Destro the Baroness and the other Twin. Then Since you have the night Raven grab a Starto Viper a cobra trooper and a 86 Viper. For Joes I would do Alpine since you have Bazooka, Duke, Snake Eyes,Flint, Lady Jay and Beach Head Now Joe vehicles I would do something for Ace to pilot like a Skystriker but they can get expensive so if not a Conquest or even a Storm Eagle. Then an Apc to carry the troops in. And a Mauler if because every joe fan should have at least 1. COBRA NEEDS A HISS, STUN AND EITHER A claw or a trouble bubble so CC can make his quick escape lol.

My only advice is go slow and enjoy. Don’t get wrapped up in the chase. Enjoy the figures as you get them.

I would determine who my very favorite figures were. Maybe make a list of your top five and then keep an eye out for good deals on them when you are at shows, flea markets, ebay, whatever your chosen method of shopping is.
Also, it may help to look at how much money you have to put towards your hobby and make a decision based on that how quickly to add. For example, one joe a month, or pay check, or whatever fits your budget.

If I were in your shoes I would probably start with getting a few of the key figures like Duke, SE, and maybe a skystriker for the joes. Maybe CC, Destro, Major Bludd with a Hisstank for cobra. But do agree with Breakerfan that you should look at your budget and go with that. But thats where I would start if I were you.

Collect whatever feels worthy of collecting. It's your collection. Build as you see fit. I agree with Breakerfan as well. Come up with a budget and stick to it. Otherwise you'll end up broke like the rest of us. LOL.

Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions.
It occurs to me just how incoherent this collection is. I have a reasonable command structure on the Joe side, but two pilots, two infantry, anti-armor, but they have nothing but small watercraft and an innocuous piece of heavy equipment. Cobra is even worse. As a fractious organization-oid, there is normally not much in the way of cohesion, but with only one twin, a crazy scientist, and a couple puppy-kicking thugs. I'm not sure how to motivate them. I think you're right, I should get Tomax. He does sell pretty cheaply on eBay.

great start! I started by collecting the figures that I was most familiar with, or had a connection to. It grew from there. I did have a period where I wanted everything in the line..but I found that most things post 91 really had not appeal to me. In the end, I still have major gaps in the collection but I'm in no rush to fill everything. The chase is almost as fun as possessing the vehicles and figures. Nothing beats a flea market or antique store find, especially when you find a great deal. Collect how you want, and at a pace that you can manage.

Well, I blew a lot of money without solving either side's lack of coherency.
You see, I bought another boat for my mostly land-lubber Joes. meanwhile, I have been hunting for a Tomax at a decent price, but can't find one to my liking...

The vehicle thing escalated quickly
6 Joes running an aircraft carrier...with no aircraft on it. Plenty of room for Cobra to land their aircraft and take over. 5 additional Joe figures: Lady Jaye (token female) Shipwreck Flint Mainframe Wet-Suit or Torpedo 8 cobra: A leader, it doesn't matter who...Serpy, CC, Destro, Overlord, Golobulus... Baroness or Zarana (token female) Strato-Viper Tomax Crimson Guard (just one for the twins to boss around) BAT (infantry, flame thrower and can function underwater, at least 3 troopers in one!) Zartan (I guess, Zarana could command the noks, but Zartan is such a trouble maker) a Third Dreadnok, there has to be at least three. 2 joe vehicles: A jet ground transport...gotta carrry a few guys, like the APC, Warthog, HAVOC 3 cobra: HISS (any version, but one is obligatory, like this site's name) Some water vehicle (Morays are best, but probably not cheap) Thunder Machine Last edited by Sean_C; 03-11-2018 at 12:09 AM.. |
