back in 2008, i rediscovered vintage toys. with encouragement from a previous GF, i bought optimus prime from walmart. at the same time period i discovered a vintage toy store near my home(at the time). the prices were so high(at the time) for a toy anyways, i ended up buying a 4 dollar yoda. anyways what were your 1st set of toys as an adult collector. if possible show some pics!!!

i think the first two things i went back to buy with the intent of keeping them solely for myself (everything i had originally bought was for my son until i found hisstank) were this takara G1 reissue prowl and tru G1 reissue soundwave.
prowl was my favorite toy that was (tragically destroyed by my angry older sister when i must have been 7), and Soundwave was the one I always wanted but was never able to get. made perfect sense to me to add them both right away.

I'll let you know when I am an adult.
Actually I never stopped buying toys, my interests have hopped around a bit but there was always something fun about buying a cool looking figure or vehicle, raised my spirits sometimes when I was low.

My first collectible as an adult was an Evangelion figure. It was Unit-01. There were some other figures but I'm not sure about the timeline though. Speaking just for Joes though, my first ones were some vintage figures. I couldn't tell you who though.

My first adult toy collector purchase was the POTF II Darth Vader in 1995. It was the long sabre version and I remember how cool it was back in the dorm room glowing in the black lights.

I second this. I haven't grown up yet and haven't stopped collecting.

Seeing the first two 25th 5-packs at Target. I had just gotten married and my wife reluctantly "allowed" me to buy them, haha, she had NO idea what she had gotten into.

What could be considered an impulse buy or purchase based nostalgia occurred when I happened upon the (3) 25th five packs at Target.
Standing their in Targets toy isle with the covers flipped up and staring at those Joe & Cobra figures just took me back to my child hood. I was hooked in that moment, and haven't let go since then. |

In 1993 when I turned 18, I gave all my Joes and Joe vehicles plus other toys to a nephew who at the time was 9 yrs. old and I dedicated myself to working and girls. Then in 2008 I was at Target one night and I saw the G.I.Joe and Cobra 5 packs so I bought them and thought how cool it would be if they just made all of them again this way.
