If someone has a wave 11 Zartan and only wants 10 BATs in trade, thats not fair. But if I have a wave 10 clear Wrath and you offer me a TF Flint or Cartoon Roadblock....thats not really fair.
Go look at a 2005 Saturn on a car lot and compare it to a 2005 F-150. Besides value being dramatically different, the Saturn is going to be run pretty ragged. With 75k mileage being the average for vehicles, and Saturns made with plastic side panels |

I really don't think that in any way is a fair analogy , a clear wraith is a variant and is supposed to be lower in production than that of an average figure(so the variant is on the average worth more than a random carded figure), lets make a better comparison, what would you consider a croc master vs tf flint now that's actually a fair value trade, but if you demanded say 3 random figs from wave 1-9 for your croc master that would be the equivalent of scalping
Common sense says its not fair. |

well you were not very specific in your initial post, you made a vague refference to a vehicle pack, most ppl say things like"I have this!" and "I am looking for this" s if you put up a trade post and just say what you have then you must expect ppl to make wierd offers

As has been stated before, "Fairness" in a trade is subjective. That's why I try to negotiate during trades. I have asked for more than the other person thought was fair before and he told me. I said "ok, let's go with this" and offered more for his item, we agreed and everything was fine.
As for your examples. Extreme examples like a Vintage MOC figure for a new one is ridiculous and no one in their right mind would offer that unless it's some rare prototype or variant. As for your Sharc example.....it's a sought after vehicle?! I thought everyone was tired of seeing it. And yes that trade would be unfair as a single figure is $8 and a vehicle is $15 But I'm splitting hairs here. I understand what you are saying. Perhaps you have just had too many people low ball you on offers. If that's the case, just tell them that you believe their offer too low. They can then either say "Here's more" or "nevermind" Seems simple enough, I don't see why there has to be a thread with all the hostility in it. |

or better yet if you put a $$ value on what you are trading then everyone can see what you want for it

What is a "Fair trade". If you list what you want, its fair because someones not going to offer you something else in trade because youre setting terms. But if you just say "I have THIS, PM me" and someone offers you something ridiculously below value or its a peg warmer, thats no where close to fair. Quote:

The nice thing about a trade offer is that neither party is committed until there is mutual assent. If you don't like the offers you get, then just say no and move on down the road. If you do this long enough, you'll find that you get offers that are ridiculous and offers that are heavily in your favor. You'll also find a lot of the "your stuff is junk and mine is gold" mentality, especially with dealers - in fact, I see a little of that mentality in your posts.
The first step in doing any trade is to establish a consensus for the value of each party's items. That's much easier to do with new stuff than with older stuff, but it can be done. My personal view is that anything that you can stilll find at retail is worth retail price...no less and no more. A TF Flint, then, is a fair trade for a BAT in my book. If that's not the case for you then I doubt we would be able to do any trades (not that I'm into the 25th stuff anyway, but you get the point).

Okay, since my name is attached to this thread I'll add my two cents.
When I started out on this board, everyone had a complaint about SOME figure they couldn't find. I started a thread called "Joes for everyone!" where I put forth the idea of trading 1 for 1 regardless of the "rarity" of the figure. It worked fairly well until everyone wanted a flint and nothing else. This happened about two weeks in to the situation. It was a wants vs haves. The idea being that I would put members in touch with each other who's wants/haves coincided. I think what's being asked here is that you not waste time with obviously absurd offers. Of course that begs the question "what's absurd?" I think that this is a call for common sense, but frankly there is none here. Collecting GI Joes was fun before the 25th line. Now that everyone is doing it, it's an ulcer-inducing pain in the ass and you can quote me on that.

if you want to talk fair, talk it. but you are simply talking about how you find offers insulting because you have your own set of values for what you have and now want to demand everyone else adopt those same values. tough, the answer is no for that. I traded a regular Stalker and Cobra Officer in return for a yellow Stalker when they first hit because the other member couldn't find a regular Stalker and had 5 yellows, thus he found the trade fair. that is why fair is subjective yet you want to set the rules for what it can be. it is funny you keep throwing around common sense and yet this entire thread is absent of it on your part. |
