So called 'Collectors' toys have become hugely expensive, doubling or quadrupling in price recently. The thought of getting a figure to display, and not to ever play around with, seems frustrating to me. Paying huge money for a 'toy' you can't play with and might break anyway (eg Hot Toys, many Japanese figures which do look amazing but are fragile), just not good for me personally.
The Joe's are affordable , some of the sculpts (though not all) are great, the articulation is there. They've all been through play-testing so generally they last.
I'm just happier collecting Joe's at the moment. Collecting them is actually fun.

If we complain about Joe toys being for kids not collectors, we forget why they are great figures. Figures you can actually buy from a toy shelf. So, here's a link to a preview of ABC's new show for this fall called "Last Resort".

Now, obviously we won't really know much until the show premiers, but does the premise of this show not basically look like a U.S. Navy Captain of a Nuclear Submarine leads his crew in direct mutiny of the United States?

Does it not look like a plausible storyline for "The Founding of Cobra Island"?

Does it not look like the Navy SEALs and the Marines need to go kick the crap out of these traitors? I don't know if I'll watch the show, but it looks like a great premise for a Joe story... and the Joes would be kicking the crap out of these guys.

I normally don't collect pre-25th Joe/Cobra figures, but occasionally something jumps out at me...the last time that happened was the VvV Cobra Commander with the interchangeable hood and helmet.

Anyway, this time it was Heavy Water. Even though it's in the old-school style, can you take a look at this guy and not say he's fucking awesome? For a Spy Troops figure, he's amazingly detailed, what with all the hoses and tubes and everything. I love the bizarre, high-tech look many of the various Cobra specialty troopers have, and this dude just takes the cake.

Still, compared to 25th/POC/30th figures, he still comes across as a tad lacking, especially if I was going to grant him access to my display shelf alongside all my modern-era figures.

Does giving a figure a cooler-looking gun (from the RoC Viper Commando...the ones Heavy Water came with looked like super-soakers) and slapping a pair of Shock Trooper goggles on his head count as a custom? I don't know? But that's what I did, and I think he looks pretty damn cool. What do you think?
