I am reading GI JOE Classic for the first time via the reprints - and loving it!!! I saw that Special Missions & DeClassified are publishing soon. Are these worth picking up as well??? Are they as good as the Classics???

Special Missions, the Marvel ones, are the best Joe comics.
Declassified and Special Missions (DDP) are not good.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll order Special Missions and stay away from DeClassifieds. With Larry Hama as the author, I'm assuming this is the 'good' Special Missions: Amazon.com: G.I. JOE: Special Missions Volume 1 (9781600106767): Larry Hama, Herb Trimpe: Books |

I liked the DDP issues - the DDP Special Missions helped flesh out much of the WW3 stories and their background (Recondo, how Cover Girl and Shipwreck became an item, etc). The Declassified wasn't bad - but it certainly took something away from the elite team as it make Short Fuse a wash-out from Ranger school!

I just finished reading the DDP Special Missions series (The TPB and the Brazil single issue) and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Some of the characters featured (Mercer, Low Light, Sparks) I wasn't that familiar with, but have a new-found appreciation for.
My favorite characters as a kid were Iceberg, Blowtorch, Flint, Shipwreck, and Cover Girl. It was great to see Cover Girl actually getting involved in the action and kicking some butt, and the Antarctic mission with Iceberg, Snow-Job, and Frostbite was a lot of fun. Yeah, sometimes you have to suspend your disbelief, but it's great to see someone other than Snake-Eyes and Scarlett every once in a while. Now I'm reading the DDP America's Elite TPBs. I got the 3rd and 4th one at Borders, and #5-WW3 at the DDP website. They're not as good as the Special Missions ones, but not bad. They'll fill the time while we wait for more Classic G.I. Joe volumes. I'm really looking forward to the Marvel Special Missions when the reprint comes out, based on the love here on the boards. I missed those when I was a kid. |
