Wonder why it is 155 1/2 & not 156? It was already stated in DDP that the Joes were disbanded until that series. Either way, finally a comic worth getting on FCBD

Howzbout a quickie flashback to that "heartfelt letter"? For a lot of us, it's been a decade or more since we've even picked up a comic...for me personally it's been damn near 2. I've always been a marvel fanatic, and did collect Joe during my years under Marvel, but I quit a bit ahead of those issues, BUT am interested to know/see what was written by the resident good guy badass...
Just too lazy to go a-huntin' ;)

Nevermind, I hit up YoJoe.com and read the summary.
It was fitting. I'm really looking forward to 155.5.

Okay, one thing I've noticed is lots of people who don't normally brave a comic book store are asking how to get this comic.
First, it won't be released until May 1st, 2010, a Saturday. Second, if you want to pick it up from you local comic book store call within the next month or so and say you want this issue and don't normally come into a comic book store. The reason for this is the Free Comic Book day comics are ordered just like any other comic, 2 to 3 months in advance of its release. If your local store doesn't know that people want it beyond their normal customers won't order a lot (IDW Free Comic Book Day comics in my experience of working and knowing five comic book stores well... IDW books are not too heavily ordered like the DC or Marvel books) so you need to let them know before they order. Third, each store has a different policy for the comics. Some limit it to one comic per customer, some let you grab as many as you want. (So some of us, myself for instance, can grab probably 3 or 4 of the comic because my local comic book store doesn't care, some do.) Fourth, you can order the book from some comic book stores during the month the orders go up, which will probably be March. G-Mart for instance takes advance orders like this, though they do charge around $.25 to $.50 for each book ordered (or they have in the past for Free Comic Book Day books). In their defense despite the whole "free" tag line the books are not free and the companies do charge the stores for them, a greatly reduced amount, but they still charge. Finally, I'm sure some people, I'll throw myself in this ring, would be willing to get copies for fans who don't have a store to go to or don't go to their local comic book store. However, if you don't you really should try and check out your local comic book store! Oh, and I'm almost positive this will lead to a new series and Hama will not pay attention to the DDP stuff. He doesn't know it quote and verse like the fans and IDW really has been distancing itself from DDP as much as it can. Just like they did with TF. Though a Transformers 81 would be interesting... After walking away I ended up with two more thoughts I'd share.
First, someone did mention IDW does a lot of "recap" books for FCBD and the text does not mention anything about "new content" in this new "G.I. JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO #155½ This is what you really want! Larry Hama continues his original and ground-breaking G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero saga with the VERY NEXT ISSUE (but, you know, 15 years later)." In fact for a 1/2 issue would this be a surprise? I doubt that IDW will want to relaunch a book that already has 155 issues in the can without providing a "reader friendly" issue to sell the relaunch. Though I bet, like the last one, we will get a 5 page original story... Also, what is highly surprising is that IDW's continuation of the "Classic G.I. Joe" trades from the Marvel TPs is that they won't have 15 (or is it 16) to print until after this issue comes out. Kind of surprising they don't wait for this next year... And as someone who has all 155 issues I am BEYOND PSYCHED for this!!! Recap or not.... Slice |
