Maybe G. Johns level is just so above me that I am just not getting his genius, but can some one give me a logical explaination/ tell ms what they think of the green ring being able to "deputize" persons for the other corps (in essence having control of the functions of the other rings). To me, it's alomozt getting to the level of the SW prequels were the author has an idea of the big events he wants yo portray, but can't be bothered to come up with the little details of the smaller events that lead up to the big event so he just writes up the most convinient plot point (one minute Anakin justs wants to save Amidala, the next he is killing younglings; or, I want C3PO in the movie, I know, let's have Anakin be his creator).
In general, I like the story of Blackest Night, but there are a few elements that I find beyond cheesey. I can accept that the corps correspond to the colors of the rainbow, since we are talking about light, but why do they all (except Indigo) have rings like they were all pallette swaps of the Green Lanterns. For example, if the Red Light is fueled by Rage, then it's agents won't form rings which are a symbol of harmony and joining. Also, I like that each of the corps have an oath, but why keep the structure and beat of the GL oath, at times the words and rhyme seems forced. Additionally, doesn't the Darkness/White Light creation story contradict what was established in Final Crisis where there was nothing but white, before the multiverse showed up with stories and color? |

What is the Blackest Night about?

#6 came out last week.
I'm holding off judging Blackest Night until I see what kind of lasting effect it has on the DCU. Supposedly it's supposed to "fix" death in the DCU and give it more meaning.

It's handwaved away by saying all the rings are based on Oan tech.
Really though, Johns is a hack fanboy stuck in the silver age who'd really just like Hal Jordan to be real so he could bend over for him and that's why we get what we do. |

I can't wait for Hal, Barry, Ray, Arthur, and the rest of the Silver Age heroes to all be back in place at the end of Blackest Night when they're all ressurected.
There's a place for Kyle and Wally as secondary heroes, but the Silver Age will always be the best for me. Until something better comes along. |

That's what I felt too. Now if this "deputizing" event is just a minor plot point, then, I suppose the handwaving is no big deal. But if it is the turning point in the battle against the Black Lanterns, or is otherwise a key point in the story, it would be dissapointing to say the least if it all boils down to the rings "are based on Oan Tech."
