I just started on Vol 2 and finished issue 11.....pretty cool to see how they introduced more Joes from the 1st 10 issues. Doc, Snow Job, Airborne, Gung Ho...even Destro though you dont see his face yet.
Really didnt think I would enjoy the early stuff as much as I am, some of its a bit caddy. The last panel: "Thats why they call me Snow Job!"...and they all look like toolboxes, I could do without, but I guess its all apart of the introduction process for these charecters....anyway just my 2 cents, look forward to the next 9 issues then onto Vol 3 |

I just picked up and will probably read through Vol 6 tonight.
Question: Why is the cover art for the TBP always a bit ahead of its content in style and character uniforms? |

Ever notice how Wild Bill seems to be in every issue for obvious reasons? His appearances rival Hawk's, the original CC and SE's.

You're talking the ugly Campbell ones right? He originally did those as pin-ups and IDW grabbed 'em to use as covers. They weren't made specifically for the volumes being collected, so weren't drawn to reflect the content.

I read "Beached Whale" last night before bed and definately noticed Wild Bill being depicted as uber cool when he landed his busted Dragonfly on the Jane.

Aside from the commander, the one you're going to see the most is the guy that flies the team to their missions.

The only thing that disappointed me about the Marvel run was that certain characters/teams never made an appearance, like the ones below. Other than that it was a great comic.
Downtown, Grid Iron, Pathfinder, Big Boa, Blizzard, Hydro Vipers, Gnawgayhye, Windchill, BullHorn, Freefall, Sub Zero, Topside, Sky Patrol, Night Force, Undertows, Coldfront, Major Storm, Updraft, Overlord, Tracker, Interrogator.

Generally speaking about the marvel run, congrats should be given to the great Larry Hamma (For me, the real Gi Joe Granddad) , for making such an exceptional series. whoever has missed out on the marvel run and has only read the sequel series by Devils Due or the current reboot by Idw is really missing out. Whatever they do, Larry Hammas 155 issues will never ever be topped by any one else. For one, the series had action...detailed military action, topped with nifty one liners, tension, complex characters and an ongoing storyline that was filled with twists and character revelations that kept u hooked on like a drug addict and could not possibly believe that all this was a toy related product!
Its a real shame that the current tittles aint no where near the marvel run. What has come 2 us post marvel has lacked in almost all departments, when the original series had an action scene, it WAS AN ACTION SCENE that was tension filled and detailed through at least 8 to 10 pages, later efforts just have them all pose on a page or two and call it a day. When it came to plot, the original used it to flesh out the characters and give them life, having their character relationships and revelations be the priority..Who can forget the origin of Snake Eyes? All the characters that were involved? The strategic diplomacy involved in the creation of Cobra island? The hesitation of Ace to nuke th place? Cobra commanders origin?? And so much more!!!In todays work i aint seen anything like it..Hell i can be going on for hours..Better stop here.. Larry the drinks tonight are for u! TO ALL A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! AND HOPE HASBRO KEEPS MAKING THOSE IRRESISTABLE L PLASTIC LITTLE ARMY MEN CALLED JOES THAT WE SO MUCH ADORE!!!!!!!!! |
