I love the story arcs that seem to take place across ten issues more or less, especially the arc leading up to Cobra Island being recognized as a sovereign nation (40-50ish). But my favorite story that's told in it's entirety in one issue is #2 and it's still one of my all time favorite issues across all comics. To me, there's so much in that issue that really shows Larry Hama's genius.

I loved the Silent Interlude issue, even though it was ninja-centric, just because it showed off the storytelling chops of Hama (who did the art that issue as well I believe).
But because it was so popular, became overdone when used it multiple times. And DDPs attempt at it was bad.

I remember my first joe comic. A friend had a copy of issue (14? I think?) on the bus and we all picked characters to read for on the bus ride home. I picked Snake-Eyes. That sort of sucked, I figured I would have more lines to read :(

I have to say Marvel #11 is one of my favorites. It's the first issue I ever bought. I remember the commercial that had the new toys, animation, and "What happens next? Find out in G.I.Joe #11 from Marvel Comics!"

That's the Doc/Airborne/Gung-Ho one?
Yeah, that's in my top 10 just because of the commercial tie in. It was so cool seeing scenes brought to life on the tv and then the comic cover would appear.

Those were the only issues where I enjoyed Serpentor. Had huge potential that became a waste.
The scene where he's leading the small unit to hold off the Joes so the citizens could escape, and he gets shot and the Troopers panic, he gets up and goes right on kicking ass. Then the scene where a trooper gets shot and Serpentor rescues him and the others are all like "wow, no one has ever done that for us before".
