TEAM,
This question has plagued me for years. What do you think went down in the Lanlocked Freighter on Cobra Island? I have heard that it was Hama's way of wiping away lesser known characters that had become bogged down with no additional story elements, in one swift stroke. I loved the original Marvel GI Joe series and this is the only thing that I question. They should have made a One Shot or a Yearbook story that answers this question! What do you think? JLT |

They did answer that question a few issues after that. I just could not believe that Firefly was among the people that went down.

Didnt they say a few issues later when they reentered the freighter that the food inside turned out to be tainted and what probablly killed most of them? (and a few missing bodies)

That would have been awesome, just to see who died first, how they squabbled over food, did some old scores get settled (I'd have loved to see Captain Minh getting his revenge on Fred VII for attempting to kill him in the Gulf of Mexico), etc. Did they have to resort to cannibalism to survive? Lots of potential stories, but at the same time, I think Hama would have had a hard time creating a story that would stand up to fans' various ideas of what happened in the freighter, so I'm okay with how he handled it by simply brushing the incident under the rug.

I remember reading a letter someone had written to the Joe comic about that very story, and the response being it was something they considered a little too morbid to explore.

I remember there were scenes of remains about the hold when they entered it.
Cannibalism would certainly have been the ideal revenge on Fred by Capt. Minh. "Nobody blow my boat up" The bulk of those people, little by little, made their way back in one for or another. Firefly got dragged into the ninja soap opera, Mindbender was revived which led to speculations that Serpentor would be returning (Possibly the worse character ever developed for the RAH universe) Zartan and Billy survived only to get brainwashed into being Cobra operatives. Man, I wish my collection wasn't in storage, I could actually look this up. |

Thanks for the lively converstion guys!
Zuludelta hit pretty close to the mark about what I was talking about RE: different characters. What was the skater's name that was a pupil of the Blind Master? And I used to like Capt. Minh. I dug his role in the Cobra Civil War! JLT |
