So I think this title is starting to hit it's stride. Seemed slow at first and yes the first arc was too long, but I like the start of the second.
I like that there's new characters: Shareware, Bankshot (aka the Red Shirt Away Team Member), Six Gun, Brainstorm and I'm sure there's more to come. I like the changes to the existing characters. Mainframe seems to be a pretty big one. I like how Cobra is shaping up to be this huge organization and you know the "oh crap" moment is coming. Love the Baroness/Destro relationship. Off to a good start. Hate Destro though, he seems like such a loser and whiner. Love that Scarlett has a command role. I really liked the interaction between the Baroness and the Troopers at the beginning of #8. Had a real military organization feel to it with the Baroness asking what their primary mission is and who authorized it and taking over the command and the Trooper making sure she'd accept the blame if it fails. Get the feeling that Cobra doesn't take kindly to failure. I like the way the series is shaping up. The slow build to the Cobra reveal is really nice. It has a nice military-action feel to it. Can't wait to see where all of this goes.

The only possible side-effect is that we might get the "redshirt effect," where if we have, say Duke, Stalker, Beach Head and some mook we've never seen or heard of before, it's a good bet that it's the anonymous stiff who gets waxed in the mission. Still, it's better than the alternatives of having a unit where everybody miraculously survives every enemy encounter or having reader backlash when somebody's favourite Joe is killed. |

I hope that some of the new guys actually get to stick around.

I'm hoping to catch up on what I missed. My local comic store closed in June, so I missed a couple of months. Fortunately, a local indie record store just started carrying the main titlie, so hopefully I can keep up with it.

I'm really digging it. I really like the addition of new characters and they way they're padding out the support staff.
I guess I'm biased because I think Chuck Dixon is one of the best writers in comics and still lament his departure from DC and the Bat books in particular. The art though has been pretty sketchy at best. I wish we could get an artist who fits better with Dixon's storytelling. |

I read 6 -8 and found things starting to move along at a faster pace. Destro's characteris getting off to a rough start with Cobra. It looks like he won't have the power of previous incarnations and the Baroness is more in line with Cobra then before. I'm liking the mindset of the new Joes as well. Things are more rigid in the command structure and when you screw up [like Scarlett] you have to deal with the consequences. I am tired of seeing Snake Eyes in nearly every issue though. I hope the writers remember that there are a lot of Joes besides SE.

I think SL Gallant (artist on issues 7 and 8) is a major stylistic upgrade over Robert Atkins (artist on issues 1-6), but I wish they'd get a "classic" Joe artist to do the book, even if it's just for a short run. Ron Wagner would be cool, his work with Chuck Dixon on the Punisher in the early 1990s is some of the best non-Garth Ennis written Punisher material.
