Marvel, it's more entertaining than depressing. Even if DC's stories have more depth, I'm still Marvel. And most of their characters are too serious. But I still like DC.

DC has some pretty heavy hitters and I can't say enough about the Batman TAS, but there are so many other characters that I just don't give a damn about.
Marvel, on the other hand, seems to have more compelling characters that I can more easily relate to (hate their cartoons though).

There are characters that I like from both, however I chose DC. DC has less characters or at least less main characters and I like far more of the DC Characters which comprise a larger part of the DC universe than I do of the Marvel Characters.
Marvel has a HUGE universe but I only care for a small fraction of that Universe.
PLUS.. if it had not been for the 89 Batman movie I may never have started reading Superhero comics AT ALL. Up until that point the ONLY Comics I bought were GI Joe and Transformers.

I love the marvel universe more, better artists, better characters, better stories.
at least until recently.
I have been reading more DC mainly because of my Batman love, and all of the BLackest Night stuff lately has been amazing.
and then there is Alex Ross.
Punk rock, Horror movies,Hasbro, and MY SENSE OF HUMOR ruined my life.

Like I said before, I picked DC but if I was in charge of them I would within the next 5 years wrap up every series/story and do a full 100% reboot of the entire DC universe.
can keep all the extra earths etc but just start all there stories over, keep the stories that worked(say they eventually happened) and dont use the bad stuff.
I mean even if I do prefer them its stupid if some newcomer/kid wants to pick up a comic there are just to many different series for a character and all the other earths crap to follow. I will admit every once in a wile I will try to start with a full series and I am still lost at the start.
I miss the old days

I have been a Marvel fan for years however recently I have enjoyed the DC animated movies, Dark Knight and the DC Classic universe toy line much more than anything Marvel has done.

I wonder if at the conclusion of Blackest Night if this isn't the game plan. To basicallly restart everything since the storylines have gotten so convoluted.
For me, it is DC all the way. My absolute favorite book to read each month is JSA. I absolutely LOVE that comic. the characters are interesting and I like how it seems to be doing something most comics don't do: the older, experienced generation of heroes is teaching the younger generation how to be heroes. It has a family element to it, which a lot of you guys seem to be mentioning when the Xmen comes up in conversation. I find the JSA characters to be very interesting and I like the idea of legacy heroes; for example Flash has been Jay, Barry and Wally and Robin has been Jason Todd, Dick Grayson, Tim Drake and well, Damien Wayne (this one sucks).
As far as my all time favorite characters go I rate my top 3 as:
Superman, Captain America and Nightcrawler.
I grew up on Marvel Comics but what really got me into DC was JLA and Green Arrow. And I gotta tell ya, DC has been putting out some interesting titles that you should check out like Secret Six.
Both companies have writers I don't like. I have to warn you to avoid Grant Morrison like the plague. I don't know happened to him, but Batman RIP and Final Crisis were abysmal (I read FC and a buddy of mine read Batman RIP) and we both kinda wish we had just passed on both. Which of course made it easy to pass on picking up Batman and Robin. Even though he did great on All Star Superman.
Frank Miller, who wrote the All Star Batman and Robin, I made the mistake of reading that. I did so mainly because Jim Lee is my favorite artist, but good grief that comic was awful. It reminded me of a car wreck you pass by and you just have to rubberneck to see what happened. You know you shouldn't but you just can't help but to look. I think Gail Simone said it best when describing the type of women he knows how to write: whore and dead whore.
He is permanently stuck in Sin City mode and everything he tries to write just sounds like a slightly tweaked version of the same story. Maybe he was great back in the day with Daredevil, Punisher, Dark Knight, but I would say he's way past his prime. Same goes for Chris Claremont.
Bendis.....man, he writes too much of Marvel's stuff and what little of his books I've read over the years don't impress me a lot. He's way too wordy and his thought balloons are out of control. Just get to the point already. And isn't he behind OMD with Spidey? What a terrible idea that was.
I agree Brubaker is a great writer and I enjoyed Catwoman tremendously when he was writing it after the title relaunched a few years back. Didn't read any of his run on Cap A, but am checking out the Cap Reborn title to see how they bring back Steve.
Both companies need to stop killing people for the sake of selling books and concentrate on telling good stories. if the death serves a purpose and the character actually stays dead then it is one thing. But no one does adn in a few months/years/etc the character just comes back anyway and all those stories don't amount to much.
And I'll tell something else too. $3.99 comics are making it hard to collect comics. I'm trying to hang onto the Cap Reborn Mini and Blackest Night, but I may have to cut down on the titles I get each month (which is only about six or so anyway) because it is quickly getting to the point where I'm not going to be able to afford to continue collecting. I'm thinking at this point as long as I can read the JSA and upcoming JSA all stars or whatever it is called that may be it for me.
