G.I. Joe #7 Review
Scarlett’s faith in Snake Eyes is put to the test, as she faces a court martial, and only Snake Eyes can save her. The first thing that I noticed when reading this issue was that SL Gallant took over the art chores for this issue. The transition is smooth, there wasn’t anything distracting and it didn’t take long to get used to the art. An improvement that I saw was that unlike the Movie Prequels, the borders for his pages are nice and crisp. Scarlett’s trial is broadcast all throughout the PIT for all of the Joes to see. The Joes talk amongst themselves and the chatter starts getting to Duke. It’s obvious that he still has feelings for Scarlett. I wonder how this will play out, as so far, it seems that Snake Eyes has done more for Scarlett than Duke has. A helicopter hovers over the PIT, carrying not just one new Joe, but two! Ace and Cover Girl make their debut. Hawk has his doubts about Cobra and M.A.R.S., and seems angrier over the fact that Scarlett has kept in contact with Snake Eyes, who is deemed rogue. I like how this is playing out, because the way things are going, once Cobra/M.A.R.S. attacks, the Joe team will be caught off guard. As we’ve seen so far, Cobra has the element of surprise and knows much more about the Joe team than the Joes know about them. This is a deadlier Cobra as IDW had envisioned from the start. The naval Joes test out a new ship called the Remora, with Shipwreck making reference to sharks. Now “Sharks” was bolded in the book, so I’m not sure if the Remora is an all new SHARC that either Hasbro is making or Robert Atkins designed, but either way I like it. Or perhaps it’s a support vehicle for SHARCS? It’s definitely different from both the classic SHARC and movie SHARC. Could this be a new toy set for release next year? The Remora starts going south quick and Deep Six, along with Torpedo struggle to save Shipwreck. A woman in the shadows jumps into the fray and ends up saving Shipwreck with ease. It’s Covergirl and she makes a lasting impression on the SEALs. I can see Shipwreck and Covergirl eventually getting into a relationship. Covergirl likes to tease, and I can see her rubbing Shipwreck’s rescue into his face from time to time. The roots of tension and eventual romance are already planted, lets see where this goes from here. The Fobbits show up, trying to dismantle one of the Trojan horses left behind by Destro Unfortunately, the device is more than meets the eyes, as the Fobbits think they have found a clue to it’s origin, only to lose it immediately afterwards… Snake Eyes proves impossible to track down, and this leaves us wondering what he will do when he returns to base. He leaves Hong Kong in anger and heads back to the states. We see him in an apartment, with a very familiar symbol scribbled on a post it note on the wall…? This issue was light on the action but high on the drama. It’s an interesting read, showing how rigid Hawk is towards teammates that he does not trust. Duke seems desperate to win over Scarlett. Hawk is stressing out more on Scarlett’s contact with Snake Eyes, than he is about Cobra. I think the next issues will feature more action as Snake Eyes seems ready to return with a fury and prove his woman right. However, how will the confrontation between Snake Eyes, Hawk, and Duke turn out? The seeds for future conflicts are planted in this issue. I have a feeling that as tension rises within the team, that Cobra will catch them off guard with an all out assault. |

Can't wait to read it. Covergirl's debut makes it all the more worthwhile. Hope this means Hasbro at least plans to do a classic Covergirl figure.

Another great issue. I am loving this series, and getting more and more anxious to see some of the other Cobra guys. I was kind of surprised that there was nothing with Destro and the M.A.R.S organization, but I guess that must be coming next issue, judging from the cover.
While the art was not quite as crisp as Atkins, it was definitely good, and well worth the price of the comic. I think the only thing that I didn't care for was the horrid Howard Chaykin Scarlet cover. The Covergirl one, by Atkins, was great though! |

wasn't too keen on the artwork either but Scarlett's dilema and the introduction of Cover Girl made up for it.

I do not know if this is a spoiler or not, but the man Snake-Eyes is looking for was also considered rogue (as mentioned in this issue) as well, and finds him at the very end.
