For all you comic readers out there, if you have not read Blackest Night 1 yet, go out and grab this. I thought this book is an amazing start to what will likely be an incredible 8 books. Was on the fence about getting another book, with comics being $3-4 now, but I am glad I did. I usually let my books back up for months and read them in bulk, but not with this. I can't remember the last time I was anticipating the next issue of a comic.

I wasn't that impressed. Wasn't that good. Better then Final Crisis though.
Spoiler: The end, deaths of Hawkman and Hawkgirl, the whole Hawkgirl professing her love was just forced. End Spoiler

$$$$SPOILER ALERT7777
my only concern was the Batman bits. The fact that they just left it as his remains being stolen... makes me wonder if he's really dead. granted alfred was freaking out... but i mean can you imagine if there was and undead black lantern batman at the end of the issue... helll.... on the first page. i dunno. i just thought since he's big three... it was odd how they avoided it. otherwise i thought it was a very good issue and i'm glad i got my ring.

They avoided it because the status of Batman being dead is up in the air. End of Final Crisis it was shown that Batman was in Anthro's (I think that's the caveman character) cave, alive and well. Who's skull Black Hand was licking, extra creepy there, that's unknown.
Scar biting out the throat of the other Guardian was kick-ass.

As a long time (I do mean Looong time) GL fan, I have to say this book was fantastic.
Spoiler alert (cont.) I do agree that the Hawkgirl confessing her love just at 'that' moment was a bit contrived, but it was still rather shocking, considering what Johns did to bring the Hawks back into continuity. All of this makes me wonder if, by the end of this, we will see some of these 'dead' heroes return to life. My thoughts regarding Batman: the body buried was his, though we all know that Darkseid's Omega Ray turned Batman into cave-bat (LAME!). Since Batman is not technically dead (though he would be by now since he's a f$%&ing caveman), he will not return as a Black Lantern... someone will then realize that since Bruce is not a zombie hero, that he must still be alive somewhere! And the hunt for Bruce Wayne will commence. Anyway, I cannot wait to see where this goes! |

Yeah. The Hawk love was forced, but the amount of death and killing just left me saying OMFG and I don't usually get that reaction. Batman being alive as a black lantern would be cool.

Always a fan, but it's an on again off again relationship. I need books like this to drag me back in. Material gets so stale and recycled too much.
