I recently finished re reading the original marvel run of the joe series 1-155 and had a blast!! And i self proclaim myself aware of all joe mythology to this date!( plus the devils due run...) So i can easily now sit back in the seat of the theater and criticize this godawful movie thats being shoved down our throats this august.. M y point here is not 2 talk about the upcoming movie, but share some thoughts on the joes final issue of the marvel series that ended in 94.
While it did not finish with a bang( the series was canceled abruptly thus leaving many plot holes and unresolved shenanigans) it did close it in a nice way. The idea of having Wade Collins adopted son write a letter 2 Snake Eyes and talk about honor and glory in a soldiers life and asking him if its worth being a soldier was pure brilliance! And of course nearly after 12 years of complete silence(till 94 that is, dont count his cry 2 scarlet!)) reading - finding out the feelings and opinions of Snake Eyes about war was really worth it, or should i say excellent!! Congratulations should go to Larry Hama who pulled it of once again, gave us a fantastic 12 year run and ended his series in dignity So green shirts what do have 2 say about the last issue? |

I haven't read it because it's so expensive. My local comic shop has it for $157! Whatever! Hopefully it will be reprinted in a trade paperback. I did enjoy reading #1-early 100's.

I reread them all during the winter. Really enjoyed them. Then i purchased the ddps. I hadnt read a joe comic since the marvel run ended. I did enjoy how ddp carried on the story line with the kid for the first few issues. I have yet to purchase any Idws.

That issue is the best of all that run. i read it just when i was already a teen and left my joes on a box, i was a little melancholic after that.

The marvel run is my GI Joe canon. Watching the Sunbow cartoons again is very painful... fun but painful. Good for kids.
Of the current IDW GI Joe comics... a must read is "GI Joe - Cobra"... issue #3 is mindblowing... not going to spoil it... it truly is a sleeper hit. People in the forums have been good at keeping the spoiler a secret. You have to get past the loose artwork, but the writing really shines through. |
