Hey all,
I haven't read up on IDW's GIJoe in the last couple of years but I do remember Krake became CC and took over the organization for some time, even during the COBRA books. But I have to ask, what's going on with Cobra Commander these days? I'm not referring to the Hama-verse version but IDW's. Is this still the same Krake/CC or did they change him up again? I'm just a bit confused since I'm seeing previews of the upcoming Revolution storyline ( which I think is so bizarre ). Thanks all! |

As far as I know he's the same guy. IDW and the Hama-verse are technically one and the same now, the IDW comics started off where the Marvel run ended and they consider the Marvel run canon. I think except for the brief Fred/Commander imposter in the early 90's, it's been the original Cobra Commander ever since.

The IDW continuity with Krake is "the IDW" continuity. While it is true that the "A Real American Hero" continuity from IDW started up at 155.5 continuing the Marvel run, IDW had it's own story running over nearly a dozen different titles during this time (three titles at a time for years and years). "IDW and the Hama-verse" are not even slightly one and the same. The ARAH title is STILL written by Larry Hama, and is the same as the Marvel series. As far as the original question by Sanctum1972, I believe that there is a mystery female Cobra Commander right now, not Krake. |

Wait. None of this is true. This is all false.

For the first time since 1987, I am not a Joe comics completist. However, I think that once the IDW continuity stopped having three titles and just went down to one title (this is when I left) they stopped focusing on the high command much. Then it seems that it sort of "went away" for a few years and only ARAH remained. I think that this is why Mr. Mojorisin is confused, the IDW continuity basically "ended" and at the time Krake was in charge (but not really even in the picture at all). Pretty sure I have that right.
Now, theres the newly "relaunched" IDW continuity which has the other Hasbro properties such as Transformers, MASK, Luminaries, and all that mixed in there also. It was announced as "the return of" the IDW continuity after a lengthy period away, and meant to be a continuation/expansion of that storyline rather than a new continuity. However I do know that they missed a lot of continuity errors (mostly stuff like dead Joes not being dead as oversights) so it references things like the events of Nanzao but the hardcore Joe fans reading it are not happy with the production of it. I don't know anything about the new Cobra Commander, but I think it's a currently developing mystery without any strong through-lines to the Krake/Cobra Civil War stuff besides the "changing identity of Cobra Commander" theme. |

Hey, I just stumbled over this post from two years ago about Snake-Eyes Agent of Cobra by accident:

Tomax is now the "Cobra Commander". No one's sure what happened to Krake... ________________________________________ So,I was reading Snake-Eyes Agent of Cobra when it came to the end, and that was the end of my series collecting. This would have been after Tomax escaped his "employment" in the intelligence agency of GiJoe. I recounted Krake not being elaborated on during this time period, but who knows where he went? Maybe Tomax offed him? There was not a Cobra Council overseeing The Commander position by this time anymore. |

Maybe Tomax offed him? There was not a Cobra Council overseeing The Commander position by this time anymore. IDW came along and got it right in the beginning with the new Cobra hierarchy and changes in character origins. I loved what they did with Cobra Commander and how that it was a faceless man behind a title. Until Krake arrived. Now, this IDW Hasbro-verse is one huge mess. I'm aware Joe Colton has gone over to the other side joining the Red Shadows, which kind of makes sense behind the RS were the original enemies of GIJoe Colton. However, him being Cobra Commander would have been a bit more epic, playing both sides. And now we get Tomax running the shows? This is even more odd now that the mysterious female CC is also in the picture. I hope we're not gonna have to get into another Cobra Civil War. I blame IDW for doing such a poor job of explaining where Krake is at, unless he is hiding out. Tomax was supposedly interested in the CC job during the 'contest' back then but got eliminated. The Council eventually awarded Krake the job. So, if there is no Council, how the hell does Cobra award the job unless this brings in more chaos and skullduggery over it? IDW needs to clean this up and take GIJoe out of that mishmash. This Hasbro-verse doesn't work. I stopped collecting GIJoe some time after the GIJoe:Cobra storylines. The 'Cobra' book is, to me, a masterpiece of how do a GIJoe title right. As for the female Snake Eyes in the hama-verse, I suspect this is temporary. Here's how I see it unfolding: Cobra finds out the real SE is dead and Dawn now carries his tutelage and memories. Mindbender gets the 'cute' idea of cloning him ( unless they still can't find his body ) or providing a new simulacrum while brainwashing SE into joining Cobra. If Cobra still has a copy of his memories, they still could. Eventually, GIJoe gets wind of this and ends up having get Dawn to transfer his memories back into his new body (one that has a voice). I mean, how HARD is that to work this out? Hama has a big problem if Dawn and Sean are both Snake Eyes, unless the latter went back to his old name and still has no voice. Otherwise, with everything going on with GIJoe, I think IDW is screwing it up badly. |

You're kinda onto something which is really happening in the ARAH title. Dr. Venom is trying to make a replica Snake-Eyes, but the recording of his memories have been destroyed by Dawn. So he's using Storm Shadow's memories in a body he made to look like Snake-Eyes (before he realized his error) so that's weird. I don't want Dawn or Sean to go anywhere. Sean is already starting to not look like Snake-Eyes anymore, and neither of them is really Snake-Eyes. It's a fresh dynamic and I like the Arashikage groupings we have been getting. It feels as authentic to me as the old Blind Master / Soft Master days, and nobody treats either of the newer characters as if they are Snake-Eyes. They just have the visor. |
