1-155 is still the best run of any comic.

It was the first comic I ever started reading right at #1 when it first came out. I've been with them for 30+ years now. Issues 1-60something are personal favorites. Special Missions had a lot of great stuff too. I also really liked the DDP years, both the main title and then America's Elite. The IDW modern stuff, not as much though. |

Yeah I'm with you. I liked DDP as well.
Although after Issue #120 or so Marvel GIJoe had obviously jumped the Shark. I think after Eco Warriors, DEF, and Ninja Force it went downhill. But to me The Comics are canon. I see to remember somewhere being stated that at the time, particularly 83-86, GIJoe was the most popular comic in America. Even though it wasn't well received by critics necessarily, kids loved it. I remember buying them at 7-11, Department stores, drug stores, book stores. It was always available. I would check because the new one would come out and I would pick it up and I think I only missed a few.

Absolutely. I would not have liked Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow if I didn't read them(before the comics, I had little exposure to the cartoon and the cartoon movie didn't show how bad-ass either of them were).

Yes, Joe used to outsell X-Men and this was in the classic age.

I was into Joes since 82 so at first the file cards were my only (and to this day my favorite canon). There wasn't a comic shop close to me but it wasn't long before ToysRUs had those 3 pack reprints for sale. Those were my first issues and I will always cherish them and the Marvel run. The cartoon came a little later, I loved the MASS device mini series - still do. But once the cartoon went full time I felt it got very cheesy, not that there weren't some great episodes. I'll always refer to the Marvel line as my GI Joe universe.

I recall reading somewhere that the SM line was so that Larry could write what he wanted to (within reason) where the main Joe title was bound to use what toys/characters were currently on the shelves.
