i was doing some research and i noticed there are two escape routes and i need your opinion on them.
in issue 1 we see a two page lay out of the pit and in there we see number 6 is an escape route to the water tower and it shows a very small tunnel. now if this tunnel ran up to the water tower the tube going up to it would be rather large as it would have to fit a human in it. now i have been in, on, and around many a water tower and one that size would have a tube half the size of a human feeding it. it says this is an escape route and 22 is the alternate so 6 would have to be human size. i know we can chalk it up to a bad drawing but lets pretend its real for a moment. if 6 is human size where does that leave 23? 23 is drawn closer to use so it would appear bigger but it also has a ladder in it. either this ladder is so big two people can use it side by side which is just silly or its over sized so that things can also be lowered down in it if the vehicle lifts are damaged? say we go with that, it still leaves the tube going up to the water tower of that height and size oddly misproportunate. if that tower is used as an escape point that tube would run up inside the sphere part, from there the goes would have to climb out the top then back down the outside. not much of an escape route especially since i would think that would be one of the first things cobra would blow up. now there are tiny port hole doors in the cylindrical tanks that sit on the ground so i guess its not to far out there to think there would be one in the tube at ground level they could crawl out off. now on to the living quarters. there is no latrines listed and there are not enough rooms. this is the army so of course they buddy up. there are 4 rooms on the left which would be 8 joes. then there are 4 rooms on the other walls. lets say the two in the middle are latrines. the one on the left mens and the right ladies. the room next to the mens is small so im guessing thats for 1 man. the room next to the ladies would be for scarlet. the big room would be for hawk since he is the boss. thats 11 joes. still leaves 2 missing. i had the thought that clutch and steeler would stay in the motor pool building on the ground level. they could be there for security reasons plus they are the "motor pool" guys of the joe's anyway. opinions please? thanks! |

You're thinking too much.
Hawk and General Hollingsworth did use the escape tunnel in issue #53 of the Marvel run. They had to climb all the way up, plus into the water tower. |

I understand that the original diagram of the Pit in issue 6 was , in- fact, reprinted directly from a (formerly) classified DoD manual of an actual subterranean base. You should contact the Department of Defense and undergo the proper clearance so you can access the original blueprints.

Issue #22 had a diagram of the Pit II, which was just an improved version of the original Pit after it was attacked. It had a few more details than the original schematic.
