No comic is worth $3000 when you can just buy it in trade form to read it, you'll never get your money back from it, if you gotta blow 3 grand on GI Joe....just buy toys.

cgc graded comics increase the value because of the condition they are in. finding mint copies of old comics is very hard. cgc puts them in protective cases and seals them shut. once the seal is broke the value of that graded comic drops. graded comics are not meant to be read. they just sit in the case. dont get comics graded if your planning on reading them again. that goes for anything thats been graded. sports cards, comics, toys, etc. once you open it its back to your normal book value. having it graded guarantees the condition its in. gettin a 9.8 on a comic 20yrs or older is a very rare thing.
i have over 3000 comics, its not like i sit around reading them over and over. i read them once and then they get sealed and put away into a box. if i had the money to i would get them graded, for it would greatly increase the value of my collection. collecting comics is no different then collecting action figures and never opening them. you collect something cause you like it and enjoy the hobby.

G.I. Joe 21 is hardly an old comic.
I can kinda agree with slabbing many pre-1950s books, because despite their high print runs most of 'em are really genuinely scarce and difficult to find in good condition, thanks to accidental destruction, paper recycling (especially during WWII), deliberate destruction (thanks Dr. Wertham!), etc., and because their historical value have superseded their intended function.
Anything starting with the Bronze Age, though - no freakin' way. People started viewing comics as collectibles around that time, so despite lower print runs relative to earlier decades, Bronze Age and beyond comics are relatively easy to find in good shape and will continue to be 'til the paper rots decades from now (which sealing up a book in a plastic case won't stop), especially books published after the creation of the direct market and especially especially the glut of comics published from the late 80s to mid-to-late 90s, when "comics as collectibles" speculation choked the market with books.

It's already been said but I'll say it again they are only worth what "you" are willing to pay. Nuff said.

I had one that was rated 9.6 about four years ago that I sold on Ebay for $250.
Trust me, I am against CGC grading, I would never buy a comic that I can't flip through first and examine myself, but some people regard CGC as the expert in grading.
To me, I consider myself an expert grader using the rules and guidelines established by the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, but I don't have the thousands of dollars required to promote my skills and I don't have the Ebay sales figures of inflated prices to back up my claim. CGC does.
Right or wrong, they are trusted.....
.......and it doesn't take one person in an auction to determine price and value, it generally takes two.

Issue #21 features the first appearance of Storm Shadow, not Snake Eyes.

i cant believe that no one has posted that that comic is a REPRINT not a first run the comic number there is an "M" shadowbox around the issue number and spidey's face instead of a bar code. man i wonder what my first runs are worth LOL.
