I'm all for taking time to set up a story and I like long arcs. That said, each individual issue should be able to stand on its own to some degree, especially at $4 a pop. Sometimes theres a fine line between a writer taking his time to flesh things out and just writing boring, drawn out material. Four issues into the main book and all we've really seen is the Joes find new ways to fight robotic spiders and some questionable Scottish-accented dialogue.

I have to agree with the pacing. I liked in the old Marvel run where you usually felt like you had some kind of narrative beginning and end (even though there may be an overlying story arc). These issues just seem to have a rambling story between issues that goes by way too quickly.

I just can't spent $4 for comics.... I can get many vintage comics for less than that. Plus... I like the original Joe universe. I don't need a new Joe history.

Welcome to the age of doing storylines for trade paperbacks. Nowadays, there are no single issue stories and very little of multiple subplots carrying on for a long time (a hallmark of Claremont's Uncanny X-Men). It's all about making stories for release in the trade paperback.
So we got ourselves (or really those that wait and read the TPB) for the pacing of the story. 4 to 6 issues is the usual length. So I see this ended at issue 5, with the TPB containing the #0 story and sketchbook pages to fill it out. So yeah, this would have been a 2 or 3 issue (max) storyline in the old days, but it's not the old days anymore.

i agree completely. For 3.99 we should be getting a lot more story, not this drawn-out padded fight with a robot spider. In the old days, it would have over in one issue. Now we are up to five and who knows how many more. The book used to have subplots and multiple threads weaving together. This book, with it's bland story and bland art and bland colors, is just such a let down. For four bucks we deserve a lot more. I've always thought chuck dixon's books were light on story, and that's definitely the case on gi joe.
There are still books out there that you read and feel it's money well spent, but idw's gi joe sure ain't one of them. amen brother!!!!! |

I know, I haven't seen a single issue-single story comic book for a long, long, time. I mean come on, I have to pay 30.00 just to read a story? I can get like 12 issues of Wolverine or Punisher for like 15 bucks, or 20 bucks for the Marvel Joe reprints, that;'s cool.
3.99 an issue in not an option for me, I have money I just will not pay that for a few pages of weak story. |

And 3.99 is steep but I wouldn't mind paying it so much if I was getting really engaging stories. So far that hasn't really been the case with the new Joe comics. I thought I read a while back that they were going to be releasing a compendium of the old comics but I've checked Books A Million a dozen times over the last few months and have never seen it. I have also not seen any new or old GI Joe comics on the rack so I have no clue what to say.
I'd just like to get the old comics and get a chance to see what all the hub-bub is about. |

Just compared a Marvel GI Joe book with a new one. Better paper quality and better art with fewer ads...but still even adjusted for inflation I wish the price were a bit less.
I just wait for the trade books to come out now. |

I love the new IDW stuff and look forward to every Wednesday. I find that having wednesday is a guaranty to actually feeding the Joe addiction. Im lucky too that my Local comic shop also sells toys and used classic GIJOE. Its really the best part of my week, right next to D&D tuesday night.
