I really liked the short run of Transformers/G.I. Joe they did on Dreamwave with Jae Lee.
The DDP stuff wasn't all bad, although I thought the artwork took a bit of a hit later when they changed up artists. I give them credit for at least trying to continue the story, even though they also did their share of reboots and retcon books.
I thought the whole Red Shadows arc was pretty weakthough, so much that I couldn't even finish reading the story.

That being said, it is what it is and at the least I had a joe comic to read. I'd rather have the DD version than nothing.
Anyways, I hope the future with IDW is bright so it lasts for a long time.

I prefered the smaller team, there was always the special missions for the other members

I love the Marvel run and only read a few DDP issues(I want to track them down myself) but If you enjoyed the first 15 you dont have alot to loose finding a few more.

i have to say i loved the run. i never bought any of the AE issues since that is when i stopped buying single issues but recently i bought all the traces and i have to say i thought it was really great.
the cobra plague was AWESOME!
killing snake eyes wasnt ballsy at all since you KNEW he'd be revived. i actually LIKED how they did it and how he shunned away from martial arts for abit. i thought it was a great character turn.
i actually OWN the art from issue 11 pages 17-22 of America's Elite. it was an AWESOME fight sequence between Snake Eyes, Kamakura AND storm shadow. the art was brilliant! it is one of my prized joe possessions now.

The entire Image DDP run is full of ups and downs....
Its up that Blaylock got the property back on its feet.
It was down once Blaylock got the property back on its feet.
Good to have it back, but some of the story was pretty blah...Mistress Armada? Destro wasn't Destro, but Destros son, and Cobra invades the US.
Stormshadow flip flops again and again and again.
The team goes from a core group, to full strength, to core group to full strength.
The Red Shadows were an interesting twist, and so was General Rey and even Phoenix Guard, but all those stories end so muttled Red Shadows seemed rushed to an end, Phoenix was here and gone so quickly, and Joe Casey chose for his new fresh relaunch of Joe a character thought dead nearly 20 years ago in the early days of the Marvel run yes nothing screams bold new direction like someone characters have to look that deep to find out who he is. And I might add dragging the Wingfield legacy out of mothballs was done recently and frankly better by Brandon Jerwa over in Frontline.
Casey had no feel for the book and while they scrambled to save it...they lost loyal readers.
Is it bad...no, but its definatly not the best.
There are however quite a few bright spots....I liked Master & Apprentice, and the Declassified books...although tying a young Scarlett to Destro seemed a little odd, and the Dreadnoks books were needlessly complicated. WWIII was a great read but fizzled at the end, with a lot of hurried explainations to wrap up story like the Recondo explaination, or the list of people were just told were killed in the Coffin. The Special Missions books were pretty decent, and I like most of the Frontline title...especially the Stalker, Beachhead, and Roadblock issues.
Look at it like this Marvel run I wouldn't pass on for the world.
Image DDP...I'm glad I was there for the ride, but I wish it had been a better ride.
