Okay, this series is starting to annoy me. I understand it's the beginning and all, but so far, it doesn't feel like GI Joe to me, just a action scene with GI Joe characters.
Where's the world-wide action? Where's Cobra? (I know they're doing a slow reveal, but this is a bit drawn out, IMHO) Where the F*** is Snake-Eyes??? (I'm not saying he should be the star, but an appearance should be made at least, he's on the damn cover) Why no ninjas? Where's the sense of patriotism? Why does Scarlett act like such a b****? I know that this is the beginning of the series, but really, I'm starting to have my doubts. |

It's the 3rd issue. The series would be horrible if they included everything that you say you want: worldwide action, ninjas, etc..
What sense of Patriotism? Never got that out of the original Joe comic. Real American Hero and that was it. I like the slow reveal to Cobra. Starts off as a name and they learn more. Builds tension and excitment instead of starting off army vs. army. Could they have started it differently? Sure, maybe would have worked better, but so far I like the direction and route they are taking.

The problem that it doesn't feel like Joe is that you have an impression based on 25 years of Joe on what you think Joe is.
Unless the new series followed the blueprint of the other series, then it wouldn't feel like Joe. The DDP stuff never felt like Joe to me. I never even got any of it after the first mini-series (the Image published one) because I felt it was pure crap and wasn't Joe. I've since read all of them and it still never felt quite the same as the old Marvel run. IDW feels closer to the old Joe that I like more then DDP ever did.

It feels like G.I. Joe to me. I mean the joes screaming "yo joe!" was something that I know fans will appreciate, but I wasn't feeling it.
The pacing of these issues has been good, and the introduction of new, and familiar characters alike has been handled well. As for the ninjas I'd just be patient. It's good that they haven't invaded the title just yet. |

And again, I like the "just a name" aspect, but I would prefer a GLIMPSE of more than just the Baroness. I think seeing Firefly or Zartan or even SS doing something in what seems to be an unrelated incident to have repercussions later. It just seems like there could be JUST a wee bit more. Also, when I say that it doesn't feel like Joe, the characters just aren't themselves. Scarlett is a bitch, Beachhead isn't even mean. It just doesn't say GI Joe to me. I am TOTALLY liking origins though, honestly. |

I'm not into it, and I'm at the comic shop weekly. The change of characters is something I can't swallow. They can introduce a female character without changing an exsisting person. I'm pretty sure its good reading, but I refuse to shell out the few bucks to read something thats gonna put a smile for a short time. I'll read the Marvel run again. Enjoy it.

The only official canon for G.I. Joe is the filecards, the rest is just different versions (like the movie, IDW, resolute, etc..). Beachhead's filecard says he's a ranger who loves PT. That's been shown in the new comic. So I guess that one is closest to what he should be.
