Not everything about the New 52 is that bad, but certain things aren't that good either. I'm just waiting for someone to figure out what happened during Flashpoint so they can set the aspects of it I don't like "right". As far as Marvel Now is concerned, I haven't read much of it yet, but I think I would have rather had Ultimate and regular Nick Fury trade places for a storyline reason than NF Jr. to have been created. Why do we need a new Nick Fury played by Sam Jackson when we already have one that kicks major ass waiting to be brought up to the big leagues?

Marvel as far as I can tell is now interested in reaching certain sales numbers. They apparently feel that is easiest by selling 50 books and hit smaller per title sales than trying to manufacture greatness among 20 books that reach the same sales numbers as 50 books. Plus , let's face it, the more titles they publish the more they stress their competition's sales numbers...
One avengers title written and drawn by a fan favorite team could reach 200-300 thou sales, but marvel would rather chance 3 titles that may sell 75-100 thou each...then they can throw out a new mini if the target sales aren't met and balance out...

So have we learned whether the new Thunderbols will really be wearing matching red costumes, or if that was just for the cover?

Other than that title I don't know that I'm interested in any of the other changes.

Is Ultimate Nick Fury really a villain now, or are you just articulating the differences between the 2 Furies as you see it? Regardless of your opinion, I'd still rather see the actual Sam Jackson Fury rather than the special SJF they created for Marvel Now. Lol! |

I gotta say there is nothing wrong with a fresh start...and honestly yeah books need to be refreshed every so often, but Marvel Now...which while I like the idea I can't even begin to dive into that pool (money issues) is the best way to do this.
I've long been annoyed by reboots, or even so called major events that a few months later end up being a non-event...seriously did one single lasting thing come out of Onslaught? or House of M? or Civil War? I mean seriously. Its time theses charactes evolved to some degree. One of the things I used to like about DC...and I'm not really a DC man...but was that at least those characters evolved to some degree. Green Lantern started as Alan Scott then Hal Jordan took over than Kyle Rayner (ok after that they went back to status qou but you get my point). Things need to change sometimes...granted you can't really go batshit crazy and change things too much Azriel Batman is a great example, and you can't make knock off replacements...Captain America / US Agent...Thor / Hammerstrike etc. but for gods sake...Spiderman spent such a long time dating Mary Jane, and then married her and then...well it just was sorta over written. Come on...thats lazy writting any way you look at it. I want to see these characters expand...not completely away from who they were but you keep a character in the same place for 30 years and yeah it gets stale. |

As much as I didn't like Avengers vs X-Men it was the perfect event for refreshing the Marvel line.
Marvel Now! is what the New 52 should have been, what Heroic Age should have been, what any line reboot should be. The titles all feel fresh and new but there's still the connection to everything that came before. |

So I picked several Marvel Now titles for the Skottie Young covers (Call me a sucker) and here are the mini-reviews...
All-New X-Men: I thought the first issue was well-written, but it suffers from Brian Michael Bendis pacing. Nothing really happened that we didn't know from the solication. The art was great though, and I suspect this will be a good series, but not one that I want to read. 6/10 Captain America: Wow, this was a well-written first issue. Cap's characterization was written well and Rick Remender was great. John Romita Jr. on the other hand... He was the reason I quit Avengers and Avengers vs. X-Men. (I know he was replaced but I was already spending money on other titles by then.) It's beter than those afore mentioned works, but still, sheesh. I'd accept this art from a independent, still in training, but not from Marvel. If it had a better artist then 8/10, but in this case, 5/10. More to come...

I think Bendis may be perfect for the mutant-verse...he reminds me of Claremont actually.
