After three months of G.I. JOE comics from IDW Publishings, I just noticed that next to the UPCs they have a Parental Advisory logo on them. Anybody else notice these before. And why I don't find them that violent.

I think I noticed those too. I haven't bought any but I looked at them at my comic store and instead bought a huge stack of Marvel comics. Maybe there is an intensely violent surprise in store.

I happen to be reading the Duke movie prequel and I just checked the barcode. No logo, but it says "not intended for children under 13"
....Now that I check the rest of my monthly stack (just picked up my pullbox today), you're right. The non-movie tie-ins have the PA on the side. Hunh. Guns + Superpowers = okay for kids. Guns alone = violent, i guess.

Hasbro has officially said that they are going to let IDW have more freedom with these books then they allowed w/Marvel & DD, so even if you are not seeing a need for "Parental Advisory" now, that doesn't mean that there will never be a need. I have a feeling that the "Origins" & "Cobra" book in particular will get into PG-13 territory.

I think that with all the people who like to find things to complain about, that type of warning is being applied to comics, TV shows, etc that don't really need it.

Well in Origins #2, a guy gets capped in the head. That's pretty graphic to an 8 year old kid who sees the movie trailer then wanders into a comic book store wanting GI Joe.
Origins and GI Joe Cobra are more adult themed. The regular GI Joe I have not made an opinion on yet, going on 3 issues and still not much has happened. |
