The original G.I. Joe, Joseph Colton, is called back to active duty, and reminisces about his earlier years in battle and the original plan to form a G.I. Joe team.

Even as G.I. Joe HQ is being mothballed, Snake-Eyes receives a letter from the adopted son of his old war buddy, Wade Collins. Sean wants to join the army, and asks Snake-Eyes what it's like to be a soldier. Snake-Eyes, expressing his feelings for the first time to readers, responds with a lengthy letter. This concludes the original Marvel run!

G.I. Joe Special Missions
Quick-access index: 1-4, 5-14, 15-24, 25-28, Trade Paperback Special Missions was a stand alone series that did not have much to do with the regular series. They had 1 or 2 stories that went along with the main title. This book started out with a preview that was found in issue 50 of the main series (see G.I Joe archive for this issue). For the most part this was a decent book, not great but no bad. The stories were interesting and each book gave us a look at different characters in a more personal manner. The main complaint I have with this book was the art work. I felt that Herb Trimpe was off on most of his work in this series. Still, it was a cool series even with the art issue quirks. Special Missions was published from October 1986 until November 1989. Marvel also issued a trade paper back that compiled the first four issues and the lead off story from issue 50. I will have short summaries up soon and then later I'll more lengthy reviews for each issue. Enjoy the covers and just like the marvel run, I will have interior art pages up soon. |

This was published two months after the last issue of the main series was published. It reprints issue #61 of the regular comic, but with new artwork by Todd McFarlane.
