Ok, I'm starting her early this year because I know a lot of us are leaving for Florida some time in the next few days. This thread is for the sorry shits among us that won't be able to go for any number of reasons. We had a lot of fun last year so let's keep it up and let's get the party started.

I can afford the con, but because it's at Disney the wife won't let me go without her. So it's not that I'm to broke for the con or the wife won't let me go. I'm to broke for a freakin Disney vacation on top of the con. So thanks to the club and there infinate wisdom and some over grown rodents no Joecon for me.

Oh I'm sure it's gonna be a huge success for the Club, for Disney,for the dealers and for everyone who is able to go.

But if your lower middle class (blue collar), the economy hasn't been good to you lately and you refuse to stop building your collection for most of the year to save for the con it sucks!!!

I'm sure they will have a huge turn out from the percentage of people in the hobby who are upper middle class and beyond. I'm sure there are also a ton of people who will sacrifice there collecting habit or sell off parts of there collection to go to this con. But I'm not one of those people.

Besides I thought this was the thread to boo hoo because you can't go to the convention, not the thread to applaud the fact that you can't go to the convention. Or did you really think I'm very serious about blaming the Club that I'm proudly a member of and that I'm seriously cross with Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Yeah when the hell is the registration going to open for that anyway? I've never been to one before, but I'm in a wedding on the same weekend in the same town and the same hotel as Botcon this year so I thought, what the hell, if it's going to be just downstairs, I might as well check it out. I thought they usually had registration up by now.

Nah, they sold out in nine hours this year due to ticket leap being dumb mf'ers and the galactic incompetence that runs that con every year. They were all thinking, "Damn our website really sucks, let's outsource a company with equally craptastic bandwidth and then tell everybody and their mothers exactly what time and day to log on"? WTF? Last year Thursday tickets and Sunday tickets lasted 2 months, but this year they all sell out in 9hrs. That's BS. I think they're giving out 100's and free BJ's at the con this year is what I heard.

I just found out Bot-con is in Pasadena... again. If you need anything man LMK, I'll try to hook you up, so you don't have to take the 5 hr drive. :) They usually have tickets sold @ the door, and I don't care about their exclusive this year. How are you btw? I miss that MOTU thread we all had going last year, that went on for about 600 pages lol.

This thread is about celebrating the fact that you can't go. Last years epic 1000 page thread was the greatest thing I've participated on the tank. We gave away door prizes. I gave away a MOC 1987 Cobra Commander, amongst other things. It was a blast. We spammed the hell out of the thread, and had a blast while doing it. It just ain't the same without Chief_1...Besides, we have 2 1/2 weeks until the con actually starts. Brokecon/Drunkcon is all that Slaughtergate wished it could be and then some...I'm actually a little upset about missing it this year for the actual con.

Have you been to one? I went to the KC one and had a blast! You can also pick up some nice ARAH complete stuff for a good price and meet some great people! I really enjoyed listening to Larry and all the other guests that were there! They're not for everyone and I'm not going to this one because my wife doesn't have the vacation! :(

Hey man I get what your sayin but it comes down to what your collecting priorities are. I spend a lot on collecting every week, and I'm not willing to sacrifice the progression of my collection for a weekend. I have a foolish collecting habit. I collect vintage figures and vehicles, I'm a completest and I army build. I collect and army build modern era stuff too. Not only all that but I also collect some 60's and 70's joe stuff that I like too. I also collect all the oddball stuff like radios board games and floating soap dishes. Hell I'd kill for the My Buddy doll. If thats not enough I also buy both vintage and ME Star Wars stuff. I always have extra stuff for sale but I'm not willing to sell 1 item from my permanent collection. I'm obsessed I never take a week off or step away from the hobby.

It's also about the Disney thing. It's a once in a lifetime trip but I will have to bring the wife and she will want to go to all the parks and it's not fair to deny her that if I'm going to the con to spend gobs of cash on joes. I don't know if people realize this but those parks are expensive as hell, so thats like at least an extra $1000 for the parks and extra nights at the hotel. The club did an awesome job working with the Dolphin and keeping the room rates low for that specific hotel but it still aint cheap. Also the wife would want to rent a car so she could do stuff while I'm at the con. Lets say I decide to just spend the absolute minimum at the con, the way I see it that would cost me about $750 just for exclusives, she's gonna want the same kind of cash to spend doing other things while I'm at the con. Food, drinks and clubbing will be expensive down there and the wife will want to do all that and I can't argue it because I'd be getting to go to the con and I'd have to hear her crap because she gives me enough crap already about collecting. My point being if it was somewhere like KC or RI I could do the trip betweenn $1500-$2000 maybe even less because she would refuse to go. The trip with her at Disney I'm certain would cost more then $5000.

So for me its just not that simple. I hope all you guys have a great time. I will be here on the tank waiting for coverage and exclusives

I wrote the book on broke (as of now). I am so far behind on bills, it ain't funny. I hope everyone who goes has fun. I'll be there in spirit. If Dallas gets another JoeCon, I'll set-up there again (to cover my personal costs).

I voted both, though it really isn't either one in the strictest sense. My wife would have gone and we could have afforded it, but I knew that she wouldn't have that much fun, and there are other more adult things I should be spending my money on.

Oh man... for me, it's mainly the money, timing, and distance.

For me to go, it would mean 2 airplane tickets, 2 tickets to Joe Con, double hotel, double meals... and not because my wife is controlling. It's because she's a Joe fan also :) We look forward to the announcement of where the con will be every year, but each year it seems to be further and further away.

I did go to Gen Con last summer with a couple of friends... had a blast even though it wasn't majorly my things. I can only imagine how much fun I would have at Joe Con.

Here's hoping I can swing going to one soon... never been to one, but would really love to. I have one more year of school left, so after that point I can afford to actually travel majorly to one if need be, but until then I just don't see it as a real possibility.
