As some of you may know I've been writing a Fan Fiction series for the last year known as Heros and Terrorists (http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-fan-fiction/61143-dhs-joeverse-g-i-joe-heroes-terrorists.html).
If you aren't familiar with it, that's perfectly all right also. Although when this story ends it will tie in with the main series, its written so that new readers can enjoy it in isolation (though you may wish to view the G.I. Joe Team Roster Appended at the end of this post).
The stories here will be told in a shorter format (200-500 words per day rather than 2000 - 6000 word blocks) that will make them more accessable to the casual reader.
Though I certainly hope all of you will check out the main body of work, I hope more casual fans can also pick up here and enjoy the work.
YO JOE!

A Survivor's Tale - Day 1
Seven men. Alone. Abandoned by the country, well countries, they love. Destined to fight a hopeless mission in hopes of redemption. That is who we are. we have become the faceless, the unknown. If we were half as many I might refer to us as the A-Team. Instead, I prefer the name Omega Flight, and that's what I shall refer to ourselves as in these records. As instructed, they will be deposited daily by satellite for retrieval to allow our progress to be tracked. As those of you reading this already know, we are to communicate only with a man we know as "The Concierge". Drops will be made in Sampit, and he will be contacted with a request of "Room Service", and no other communication will be made until our mission is complete and we call for our "Check Out."
Every one of us has had to give up our names, our very lives, not merely once, or even twice, but three times now. Any connection we may have had to the world has long been severed, and we have come to accept, if resent this. We know we must complete our duties, and we shall do so to the best of our abilities. Not half an hour has passed since the last of us arrived at our pre-appointed rendevous. For today, there is little to report that you will not have already heard. Our cover here is excellent, as predicted, and once this has been transmitted, I shall join the others in the construction of what is to become our permanant camp for I know not how long.
I will simply clarify our new designations for the remander of these transmissions so that you may understand what I say. I am Delta, sergent in charge, infantryman and armorer. Sigma is our medic and interpreter and my second in command, also with infantry training. Phi and Psi share duties of the third in charge. Phi is infantry and hand to hand compat, while Psi is our breacher and interior combat specialist. Chi is our survivalist and Gamma specializes in small arms. Lastly Alpha is our demolitions expert. If someone would please tell me why the hell we got an arctic trooper assigned to a team that's going to live in the fucking jungle for the next year, I'd love to know.
Of course, my updates will continue so long as I am able in as much detail as required and is possible. I only hope that I live to see this mission succeed. I am not here for the cause. I am here for my own redemption.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 2
Not much to report today. Unless you have a painful interest in shoveling and assembling of a pre-fab bunker. The space beneath the tree cover provided one useful divot. Its a slight depression between hills. Barely enough to squeeze in two squadrons of men, but enough for our purposes. The surrounding trees grow on the crest of two crescent-shaped hills. This provides us the perfect opportunity for minimal digging. After removing the top two inches of surface in foot squares and setting it aside, we were able to assemble our bunker without issue. The spare dirt we carved out of the sides of the hills was used to merge the two around the bunker to make a single circular hillock. Sigma figured out a creative way to re-lay the topsoil so it is already impossible to see the disturbance we caused. The only difficulty we are having is disguising the entrance hatch. Some work still needs to be done on that for the seal to be perfect, but a successful day's work.
The portable Phoenix generators are heavier than we were told, but are quite serviceable. It will take some time before our intelligence gathering abilities are completely prepared, and the inclusion of a technology specialist would have been extremely useful. Scouting of the local area indicates an abundance of Sulawesi which should provide sufficient food if required. Our rations will last a few weeks, and hopefully raids on nearby cities and villages will prove sustainable. It never hurts to be prepared however. Chi is investigating the possibility of diverting a small culvert from the stream to our bunker for easy access using the pipes from the chopper. I am unsure whether this is wise, however it may disguise our presence more than frequent runs to the river. The decision will be made in the coming days.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 3
The topsoil is in place. The wires are being strung. It looks like old home week. If old home was a ramshackle tin bunker buried in the middle of the pig's rear of nowhere. Upon debate it has been decided that a water culvert is the best option to allow us to remain hidden. The problem of course will be food to allow us to remain in shelter should we be tracked. To that end, Gamma, Phi and Chi are digging us a storage unit directly underneath one floorplate to allow storage of food. The problem with this is that we have no refirgerent for meat. So, we're just going to steal one from Sampit. Of course, hauling it through one hundred and forty kilometers of jungle is going to be fun. Oh wait, no one gives a shit. Sorry to bore you.
We have a possible track on enemy movement about seventy kilometers to the north. It appears to be a transport route to move supplies and men in and out of wherever their main base is located in the area. We'll get to it when we damn well get to it. Playing house so we can keep in touch comes first.
Delta Out.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 4
Its my father's birthday today. If you wouldn't mind sending him a card, I'd appreciate it. But then again, you probably don't give a shit. Of course, since you probably have him stuck in a jail cell somewhere so he won't talk, it might not be too difficult for you. Perhaps slip some cake in with the dried bread. Apparently, my assessment of this place as hell is inaccurate. Chi assures me this is nothing like Hell since he was born there. Strange, no pitchfork or horns though. Would you mind sending me a REAL devil? Might be helpful. Though I discredit Chi by suggesting he isn't. He's determined that at least three nearby species of plant life are indeed edible. Of course two of them taste horrible, and the third is in scarce supply. Still, its something.
One thing that no one who designed this bunker thought of. Waste disposal. Forgive me, but I'm not burrying that underneath us. For a day or two that might work, but since we're supposed to be here for an unknown amount of time, I have no intention of sleeping over that shit. Literally. Going to attempt to set up a drainage pipe also, but that becomes difficult. In order for this to work, we're going to need a couple of different pumps which will be somewhat difficult to grab from the wreckage. Thankfully, as yet neither our quarry nor the local government has taken a lot of interest in the crash site. I suppose they believed the matter closed with the firefight. Makes things easier on us for a change.
For the second day in a row, movement has been sported on that northern track. However, this time they seemed to have small scout patrols sweeping the foroest on either side of the track for safety. They paid no attention to Sigma and Psi while they were spotting, so its not because they're aware of us, so I'm left to assume that something important was moved in. Even if we were fully set up, there would have been no way to mount an ambush however. The convoy had over sixty guards by Sigma's reckoning, and no matter how good my boys and I are, we can't take on that many without unacceptable losses on our side. We may attempt to tackle a smaller convoy if we can predict the schedule, or take out a lagging patrol squad. Tracking devices are also a possibility. Plans as always must remain fluid, so don't bother arm-chair quarterbacking.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 6
Things can never jus go according to plan can they? Do you deliberately stick me on missions that are doomed to fail? Do answer that when I get back to base. Yes, when not if, I'll make it out of here alive whether you like it or not.
Oh right, back to my report. We made it most of the way out of Sampit with the refrigerator with no one noticing. Our problems began when we borrowed a fisherman's boat to get back to the other side. The whole town is asleep, except for him. He comes racing out onto the dock making a racket as we motor off. By the time we make the river crossing he's got a band of mercenary townsfolk rounded up and piling into watercraft to give chase. So the option was to high-tail it, or grab the fridge and try to sneak off. Hell, what's another couple hundred pounds, right? So, Alpha and I strap on the harness and grab the fridge while Gamma stays back and tries to scare off the villagers.
You'd think a couple of pot-shots by him across the bow would deter these backwater villagers right? Oh hell no. Not only are they not deterred but they return fire. Who gives these people machine guns?? That suggests to me that we're on the right track in our hunting. Civilians normally do not carry heavy weaponry. Civilians who have been coerced into guarding a secret operation that's not supposed to exist? More likely. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few real soldiers mixed in with the bunch.
I won't bore you with the next four hours worth of detail. It involved a lot of running, whacking heads on branches, and pain to my shoulders. You'd have enjoyed watching it I'm sure. Suggest it to Beachhead as a new training module. Its a great experience...for him to torture the newbies with. In the end we got away with minimal injuries. though our fridge does have a couple of bullet dents in the side. It adds character I think.
Of course, with our daily constitutional we're only half way home, so we're bedding down in a grove for the night. We'll hike the rest of the way tomorrow. Stay tuned. Same channel. Same God-forsaken place.

Firstly, I'm impressed you read through the roster throughly enough to notice that. Turns out you caught a minor flaw in my attempt at realism.
I wanted to internationalize the team so that they came from around the world. The only problem with that is that I have no idea what non-North-American (or basically English) names are like. So I kind of grabbed a random name generator and went with whatever it spat out that I liked.
Since you actually could shed light on more appropriate names, I might be bothering you by PM in the next couple days to fix that.

So, I just discovered I mistakenly posted Day 6 yesterday on the fifth. Sigh. THat was bound to happen eventally.
So, this takes place before yesterday. Back to regular order tomorrow.
Sorry for the stupidity.
A Survivor's Tale - Day 5
Alpha, Gamma and I took a field trip to the south today. Refrigerator pickup. That means a full day of hiking through the most dense, fetid jungle I've ever seen. So fun. Nothing of interest to report. Obviously I'm out of contact with the rest of the team, but they continue preparations to make our bunker functional.
There is little to report however, unless your all particularly interested in the type of vegitation that's been hitting me in the face all day. Yeah, didn't think so. As per orders, we've avoided cutting our way through any of it so as not to leave a trail that may be followed by pursuers. Sampit is quiet this evening, and absconding with a cooler should be a simple matter. Simpler if we didn't have to carry it of course.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 7
For our morning exercise, Gamma and I hauled a fridge through a forest. Yeah, for real. But of course, you already knew that. Well aren't you special. Good news, it fits. Not that you probably cared.
Sigma informs me that nothing untoward occurred in our absence. Unless you count someone temporarily losing a power cord untoward. Yeah, I thought not. Everything has been set up. Computer systems are in place. Apparently they routed the cables to the micro-dish up through the trunk of one of the trees. Intriguing work if I do say so myself. Yes, I'm entitled to an opinion. Got a problem with that?
The hammocks are not exactly the most comfortable thing that could have been included, but I understand the need to save space. We've divided the day into four six-hour watches. Two will be on at all times, with rotating pairings. Our odd numbers force this configuration, but is also forces everyone to learn to work with everyone else, and can help diffuse any animosities that develop. (I have to wonder if you planned that in advance, but until someone tells me otherwise, I'm going to assume its my brilliance)
I expect things here to be somewhat slow for the next few days as we get our land-legs with all our gear and set up. But of course, regular reports will continue.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 8
Its a beautiful day in this neighbourhood...
What makes it so great is the utter lack of nosy neighbours. Hell the company is even good. I'm glad Chi loaded a lot of board games onto a tablet before we were deployed. Its quite necessary to passing the time. BTW, never EVER challenge Sigma to a chess match. He will kick your ass. The rations continue to taste awful as always, and they're not even stale yet. At night its almost pleasant to climb a nearby tree that we're converting into a lookout should we ever need it and just lie there staring up at the stars.
What? You didn't want a letter from camp? Well fine then. Psi and Alpha struck out for the track I've mentioned in previous reports and affixed a small army of spy equipment to the surrounding trees so we'll be able to watch any traffic passing through without putting our own men in danger. They should be back early tomorrow morning.
Other than that, nothing to report really. Its been a nice slow day. Jealous aren't you?

A Survivor's Tale - Day 9
Same shit. Different day.
You know, I was tempted to just send that. But you'd probably drop something heavy and explosive on me for it. Psi and Alpha returned without incident having throughly canvased that trail. There's nothing there now. But based on the width of the wheel ruts, they assure me that its entirely possible that armor has moved up and down that track within the last six to eight months. Not more recently than three months though based on sapling growth. Nothing stays the same her long. Even on top of our little hobbit hole there are tiny plants starting to spring up that weren't there before. The armored steel can hold their roots out I assume? It had better.
Other than that, nothing particularly of importance. A band of the locals who were looking for their missing fridge got within a few hundred meters of here, but never found us. They seem quite upset about that. Perhaps they miss their afternoon smoothies?
Anyway, Gamma and Alpha have struck up a quite fast friendship in our week here. They both love to tinker with their gear and can build a disturbing variety of death out of scrap they salvage from the nearby battle wreckage. Alpha must have three backpacks full of various explosives. He apparently likes incendiaries. Perhaps after all those years operating in the arctic, he enjoys a good blast of fire every now and then, rather than an arctic one. Gamma isn't far behind. While he was in the Moroccan military he worked to build experimental small arms. Especially types that could be concealed without detection. Its quite disturbing to see him playing the old west style gunslinger with a pen and a lighter. Oh, and in case you were wondering, he actually managed to cobble those together with some other parts to make a palm-mounted pistol.
Seriously, stick a cowboy hat on his head, and with the stubble he WOULD be a gunslinger in some Clint Eastwood movie.
Please tell me you know who that is. No one appreciates the classics anymore

Its alive!!!! (That's a quote from Frankenstein in case you didn't know - at least I think it is).
The sensors Psi and Alpha planted along the path/roadway/whatever-you-guys-call-it paid off much more quickly than I anticipated. Another convoy went up north today. If I had to make a guess, they would have made way north from Sampit itself as a matter of fact. That kind of explains the machine-gun-toting locals I should think. Do we get to kill them too? or just the targets? You don't seem to care much about collateral damage if it gets the job done. At least not collateral damage to your own loyal men.
Mostly infantry and high-bedded carriers with machinery of some sort. We've attempted to determine what was under the canvas, but despite our best efforts none of us have developed X-ray vision yet. This failure saddens us and we will endeavor to improve ourselves after we finish our self-flagellation.

A tad late today. Been busy.
A Survivor's Tale - Day 11
So, apparently our master sergent has put us on ten day reporting rotations. Fine by me.
I took the liberty of reading through his reports, and I for one must appologize for his rudeness. We all understand why he's so bitter, or at least one version of why. I'm sure its above my clearance level, but when we get back would someone mind letting me find out the rest of the story? The dude isn't exactly forthcoming as you probably guessed.
That said, the content of is reports is perfectly accurate, so feel free to go off those. Today is a bit of a slow day. We're trying to set up an operation to snag a bit of the next convoy. Of course, we have to rig something that will make it look like the dude got lost in the forest and mauled by something. I'm not as familiar with the local wildlife as some of the others, so I'm not really sure what we're trying to immitate, but Sigma and Gamma (if I'm understanding Delta's coding correctly) are rigging something together so at least one of them knows what they're doing.
I'm teaching the other guys ways of taking down a few wayward targets hand-to-hand. I've never really trusted silencers. Perhaps thats why Quick Kick and I got along so well. Ah well.
Nothing else of note to report, other than the fact that we're trying to get satellite TV in along with our intelligence gathering. Not working well so far. All we can get is the all news channel. I'll continue reporting tomorrow.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 12
First of all, appologies for the security breach yesterday. It completely slipped my mind that referring to a fellow member could jeprodize things. It won't happen again.
On to more pressing matters, another convoy went up north today. I'm not sure if this is the regular frequency or if its increasing. The intelligence we recieved prior to being dropped here would suggest in increase to me. Perhaps the analysts on your end are more equpied to figure that out. Of course, that doesn't help us if you do. The one thing I miss the most is two-way communication. Of course, I'm happy to share what we know, but I for one certainly wouldn't mind hearing about what you guys figure out.
That's neither here nor there I guess. You make the decisions and we abide by them. I'm being more conversational than I need to be to report I suppose, but its nice to talk to someone else for a change. Trust me, when you spend the better part of two weeks cooped up in a shed with six other guys, you run out of conversation pretty quickly. Perhaps something you guys should note for future insersion missions.

Just realized I forgot to post todays;
A Survivor's Tale - Day 13
Delta spent the day pushing us hard. He suspects that in two days another convoy is going to pass based on the schedule we've seen so far. So, its going to be snatch and grab and see what we can learn. I personally would have gotten some more recon on these guys, so we knew how they structured their convoys, but he's anxious to get out of this jungle, and honestly, I understand where he's coming from.
That said, even if we do do manage a this so early, I don't think we're going to be out of here anytime soon. Shockblast was running some numbers on the computer last night, and figured that based on the material we've seen going up the trail, that unless they're leaving the other way, we're looking at a base staff of about 400 to maintain that number of vehicles and equipment. And of course, that assumes that we're only looking at what's gone up so far and enough men to establish a base to begin with. Not exactly what I would refer to as encouraging odds.
I'm not exactly up to speed on what Delta plans to pull off, but I suspect that after we interrogate someone (if we can get one of course) he's going to take a team up north in order to find out what's at the end of that road. I would hazard a guess, but I know it would be wrong. Probably because I can't immagine why someone would truck all this stuff to the middle of nowhere. Wouldn't it be easier to hide shipments like this in some port city?

A Survivor's Tale - Day 14
The drama lama has arrived. In three days Phi manages to let slip two of our teammates names, and Delta goes ape-shit. He spent about two hours ranting the crap out of poor Phi, before that developed into a full blown argument. Only when Sigma threatened to tazer them both did we finally get some peace and quiet. Of course, the two of them now aren't speaking to each other, and the rest of us are just trying to stay out of it. The last thing that we need is two camps developing here. Of course, Delta has forbidden Phi to post the rest of the updates that he was supposed to be submitting. I'm next in line so its now my job.
Things were going well for the last few days, but now there in somewhat of a disarray. The mission we were planning for tomorrow is still going ahead but with only four of us while the others stay here. Personally I think Delta is letting his over-inflated American superboy ego get in the way. And no, I don't really care if he reads this. Look, we all know Phi is a talkative guy. He can't help if he slips up every now and again. Besides, its not like we use these crazy names on the mission. We still go by the names we used back on base.
Anyway, whether this mission will actually get pulled off or not remains to be seen. Hopefully if everyone can get themselves in check we can get back to a normal routine and actually do our jobs. Wouldn't that be novel? Nothing on any scanners. However these people communicate with their convoys we can't figure out. Of course, I am assuming that they do communicate. These could well be blind-ended drops. Still, I can't understand why men and materiele would just be allowed to build up like that. Hopefully we shall know more soon.
Also, do you really NEED daily reports? Just checking to make sure we're alive or something? I should think weekly progress updates would suffice. Ah well, I just make the reports, you make the rules.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 15
On the bright side, Duke and Phi aren't arguing anymore. Unfortunately that's because duke decided to leave Phi and Alpha back at the base while the rest of us wait here to stake out the trail for the next convoy. Even though nothing has happened yet I figured I'd send in the daily report now because if anything does happen we're probably going to have our hands full and I won't be able to report. Personally I hold by my suggestion to Delta that he let Phi report from base, but he came up with some half-assed excuse that the report should come from one of us so that you could hear about the convoy.
As of right now, no convoy and a lot of plants sticking into me at an uncomfortable angle. I won't bother with details of the march, because I doubt any of you are particular interested in the local flora. I'm going to grab a meal and go back to watching a nice empty trail.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 16
Well the convoy did arrive yesterday. Escorted by the usual small army of enemy soldiers, black jeeps with machine guns, and oh yeah some random black due with dreadlocks, a yellow deaths head mask and an obsession with killing each and every one of us.
That got your attention didn't it? Trust me, it got ours a lot more. We're spread along the south side of this path waiting for the convoy. Nothing out of the ordinary, our sensors remained hidden, we were concealed, and around 1700 hours we see a scout ride up the trail on a bike, then turn around and report back to the main column. This repeats three more times before the main body of their expedition comes into view. Seems logical, we'll just grab a straggler or anyone who stops in the bushes to take a leak. Simple right? Not really.
At the head of the column are two jeeps as usual but mounted with machine guns and armed men as expected. The creepy dude I just described is walking behind them growling in a voice that would put the dude who played Darth Vader's to shame. According to Sigma he was speaking Indonesian, and was trying to spook the shit out of his troops to keep them marching. Pleasant fellow.
So, plan stays intact. What's one crazy officer right? The convoy passes and we see one trooper running to catch up. Sigma sneaks out, grabs him and has him back in the forest before anyone's the wiser. Or that's what we thought. We're just finishing getting him tied up when we see death mask dude comes striding down the trail. We all freeze where we are with Delta resting a bayonet tip on the prisoner's throat. Didn't matter. This guy seems to pause, sniff the air and then pulls a compound bow from his back, and fires an arrow right at us.
The thing doesn't hit anyone. Or rather, none of the team. The thing crashes right through the helmet and skull of the guy we're holding down. Dumb luck right? Well as the guy pulls out another arrow we all decide we don't really want to risk it if its not. Delta and Psi fire off a couple shots at the guy. One of them hits him right in the arm. The dude looks down, then fires an arrow right towards Delta. He manages to get out of the way but the thing buries itself in a tree.
By this point our cover was obviously blown and we had to take off. Of course, crazy dude follows. For the last fourteen hours, we've been trying to get rid of this guy, but no matter what we do, he seems to keep finding us. The dude is utterly insane. From what I can tell he doesn't carry any firearms at all instead he

A Survivor's Tale - Day 17
Sorry about cutting off yesterday. Report or run for my life. Very tough choice. I don't know who the fuck this dude is, but we're all practically dead on our feet from exhaustion. Chi's pacecounter has us logging over 120 kilometers since we started out from the trail. Relentless does not begin to describe this person. If you have any information on who he is, I beg you to break communication blackout procedures. We need to know what we're dealing with.
Sometimes it seems like he has an unlimited supply of arrows. We've figured out that he's making them as we run. He carries more blades than freaking Snake Eyes, and not normal swords either; its a collection of machetes, hacksaws, and things that I can't begin to describe. One of them has some scythe-like hook with a cross-piece on it, another is some scalloped scimitar, weird stuff.
Oh yeah, your probably wondering how I know what these things look like. Well crazy boy is also one sneaky son of a bitch. At least three times he's popped up right in front of us or dropped out of a tree into the middle of us without any of us having known he was within a mile. If Psi had been a half a second slower in jerking his arm out of the way the scythe thing would have amputated it. As it is, all of us are nursing wounds from either his machete collection or an arrow graze. Often multiples of each. Chi has had the worst of it. He's taken an arrow clean through the right shoulder. It nicked several bones and completely tore through the deltoid and a half dozen other muscles I don't remember at the moment, so he's down to shooting one-handed, in his off-hand no less.
I'm not entirely certain if we've wounded this guy or not. I'm sure I've hit him a few times, even running my aim is good enough, but he never seems to flinch. Delta slashed the guy's leg with a combat knife and he kicked him in the face. Yes, with the same leg. I'm not entirely sure if this guy is real or not, but I do know I want to be rid of him. We haven't run into him for the last two hours and a bit, which is giving me time to type this report. None of us have any delusions that we've lost him. Not yet. Until we're sure he's dead or gone, we shall remain on guard and marching aimlessly. You can guess why I'm sure.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 18
We're approaching twenty-four hours without a sight of crazy-yellow-face. Delta wants to wait it out a while longer. Paranoid though that may sound, I can't really blame him. Whoever this nutcase is, he was clearly stalking us and making quite a successful game of it. It seems to have slacked off though. I'm not sure if he lost interest, or just went back to his base to report in. Whatever the reason may be, I'm just glad to be rid of him. I might finally get to sleep. Actually, I doubt I'll be sleeping through the night for a long time until I stop dreaming about him, but anyway.
Beyone what I've already told you in the last report, we haven't been able to learn much about him. His fighting style does not appear to be professionally trained, but as we have no one with training with us, we can only guess at that. It appears to be mostly street-fighter tactics. Turns out Chi was running a video during one of his attacks, and I've appended that to the end of this report, perhaps someone can identify what the dude is doing. Or better yet whom he is. And if Delta gave me the right command code, I'm requesting room service on that last.
Once we get back to base, I'll be waiting for the answer to that.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 19
Progress Report. Day 19.
The men assigned to our scout force got back to base today. Every one of them is injured in one manner or another. Delta has multiple lascerations, a fractured jaw, and an arrow wound in the side. Chi's right arm will be in a sling for the next four to five months due to the damage he took, as well as a nearly fatal stab that missed his liver by a few milimeters. Gamma has a torn achillies tendon, multiple lascerations and a rib fracture. Psi is in the best shape suffering only severe lascerations. Sigma has a broken illium and coccyx which is going to make him incapable of walking for the next few days if he wants it to heal
Whoever the guy who chased them was, he's broken them down mentally as well. Delta and Sigma have both woken up in cold sweats and the others all report disturbed dreams. Things were freaky enough around here before, now they're almost unmanageable.
This means that for any near future operations Phi and I will be the ones responsible for any external operations.

The men's wounds will take time to heal, and two people aren't enough to risk an expedition. The yellow faced officer was in charge of removing the equipment, and I'm almost certain he was gloating.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 21
Well, you'll be unsurprised to hear that this cock up of a mission got even more screwed up over the last week. Everyone else seems to have filled you in on the specifics so I won't bother wasting my time repeating myself. Yep, we're stuck in the jungle, alone, injured, under-supplied and no with some certifiably insane enemy hunting our skins. Probably because he wants fresh ones to mount on his wall.
And despite the several quarts of blood that we've spilled, we still don't actually know anything about our objective. That would be far too easy. I'm not sure how much longer your going to stick us in this hell hole before you realize that this team isn't nearly large enough to do the job you want us too. But then again, you've already written us off for dead so why not just let it happen. Perhaps that was your idea all along?
Well, sorry to disappoint you. As miserable as we may be, we're still very much alive and have every intention of remaining so for as long as we can. Perhaps we might actually be able to accomplish the mission we were assigned. Though I'm sure you have even less faith in that than I do.

Delta's constant whining and bitching aside, the man has a good point. We are very undermanned at the moment and we definitely don't have enough people to pull this mission off. Especially now that they know that we're out here looking for them. Its a major problem that someone's going to have to address. I don't suppose you'd mind dropping in a second team and bunker?
I suppose that's completely impractical as it would draw too much attention, but its something that everyone's constantly growling about now. All of us have worked behind enemy lines before, so we should be better than this. Yet we're not. My supposition is that none of us have encountered such a ruthless and incomprehensible opponent before this mission. I know I certainly can't recall such an instance. Most of us are just resting and staring at the monitors hoping that some army of troopers doesn't suddenly come bearing down on us. So far so good.

Especially when most of them are injuried and cranky. And yes, I'm including myself in that. Ah well, such is our lot. Nothing on the scanners. I did some fiddling with the equipment today and we can now monitor almost one kilometer from base. Not great, but enough to give us warning if creepy shows up with his friends.
Other than that, all I can really say is that putting in water and waste disposal piping was a good idea. Otherwise we'd be out of water and this place would stink. I noticed with some chagrin that I forgot to post yesterday. So you get a double shot.
A Survivor's Tale - Day 24
Well, since there's noting in the area, Delta agreed to allow me to sneak out of the bunker today and head off to Sampit. I haven't been to town before so there is little danger of my being recognized.
My wounds are mostly covered and those that can be seen match those of the more unlucky foresters in the region so I should blend in fairly well even though my skin is lighter. With the recent invasion of American monopolies for the logging trade I have the perfect cover. Our detectors suggest that the CEO, a Chip Goodfellow is touring some facilities in the next few days. This would provide a great opportunity to explain my presence. What I need to find out is where these convoys that we keep seeing are coming from and how they recruit people to guard them. Or more importantly, whether the guards come with them.
I speak passable Austronesian (I think that's what its called) so it fell to me given that Sigma is indisposed with a torn Achilles tendon. Well, on the bright side I get out of our little hole; but in contrast I have no backup should anything go wrong. Here's hoping that there's some helpful locals who aren't in the mood to run everyone out of town.
From what I remember from the briefing the monopolies are not popular with the locals, but they still try to get to know the workers in order to get smuggled out with shipments to start new lives in the United States or Europe. I intend to play on those hopes and dreams. Yes, I'm a horrible person but I really don't care. Upset some workers, or take down a terrorist organization....sorry, number two wins.
Psi Out.
A Survivor's Tale - Day 25
So, Sampit is about as bad as you would expect. The fact that it rhymes so closely with armpit is apparently no accident. It smells like one, you sweat like one, and the building's look about as bad as one. The girls are cute though, so that's a redeeming factor. So far the locals haven't been as hostile as I had initially expected and in fact are quite forthcoming with information once they've had a couple beers. Being the "rich American" who buys them rounds doesn't hurt either.
One fellow in particular is particularly loquacious. Good Lord, I can't believe I just said loquacious. Anyway, he's informed me that the convoys arrive by river at least once a week but are offloaded in a fenced area north of the village at night. By the morning all sign of whatever is offloaded is gone. He says a friend was fishing up in that direction when they were offloading one night and became drowned. He doesn't believe a word of it because his friend was fishing the same waters for twenty years without incident. I think that confirms what we're dealing with here.
He doesn't remember what company brings in the barges, so I'll be keeping an eye out for them over the next few days. I haven't had enough time to learn any more than that. My cover as a monopoly worker will allow me to disappear and do my own recon during the day without raising suspicion. I do however need to blend in with the other foreign types who work here. The local girls pretty much swarm any non-local who shows up so I intend to take full advantage of that to add to my cover. Who says a guy can't have fun while doing his job?

A Survivor's Tale - Day 26
I just remembered that while I'm reporting on my activities here, your not getting anything from back at camp. I should have mentioned that you'll be getting reports from them every week unless something happens and they hijack my uplink time. I snooped around the facility in question today, and I must admit, that if I didn't know who was in charge there, and what was being done, I would just think it was another logging camp. The cover is quite perfect. All the equipment matches what I've seen at the actual operation centers, and the boats being offloaded are almost indistinguishable from the other cargo barges that visit Sampit, except for the navy blue and red color schemes.
There is a security patrol on guard there all the time. A large man, who looks to be of African Descent, who wears black pants, a grey combat vest, and a mean-looking gun-metal mask that hides his entire head. There's about two dozen black rottweilers throughout the compound that I've been having to avoid being upwind from. I'm not sure what would be worse, an interrogation by an enemy agent, of fighting off those dogs. They're all muscle and look like they're only fed when someone hops over the fence.
I didn't have the opportunity to get as much recon done as I had hoped, because they kept smelling me and barking. After the fourth time the guard was becoming very suspicious, and its way too soon for me to end up on the wrong end of his shotgun.
However, the village is turning out to be just as much of a source of information. Apparently the man's friend I referred to in my last report is not the only person to go missing when he gets too near that compound. The locals are hesitant to talk about it because they don't understand it. Apparently its the only operation not owned by Goodfellow's monopoly, and yet he's never taken any action against it. Every other group that attempted to set up here was run out of town, usually at gunpoint, and their holdings absorbed into his monopoly. Not this one, which suggests to me that he's either being bribed heavily, or is aware of who really runs it and is cooperating.
Its beyond my abilities, and my cover to attempt to learn anything from him here, but when he returns to the states, I would advise that some of our boys take a shot at an interrogation. He may well be a useful source of information on a bunch of stuff if he's in on it. If its just bribery, that could also be useful because it would tell us who's behind the funding of these people, and who we would have to target to hamper them.
My cover is fairly standard. There's this nice girl, Sujatmi, who's giving me room and board for the forseeable future. That's really all you need to know.

Been concentrating on other things the last week, so I'm catching up. I promise to get back to daily updates now.
A Survivor's Tale - Day 27
Today's recon was limited due to the torrential rainfall washing away half the paths to the facility under investigation. Also, with the arrival of Goodfellow's immanent arrival in Sampit, there are guards from the monopoly everywhere keeping watch on everyone. Only two shifts of workers went out instead of the usual 10. To quote a man at the local bar, if it can really be called that, 'the cutting must still be done, but there's no point losing more good workers then they have to'. (Now picture someone saying that in drunken Austronesian and you have an idea of what my day's like)
The whole village appears to be employed by the monopoly or in the few bars that line the main street. As far as I can tell, there isn't a single person who's ever set foot in the compound I'm trying to access. There are more than a few stories about it though. Perhaps the most interesting is that the man in the iron mask who is running security was brought in before the facility was built. He was personally responsible for wiping out two gangs that existed in the village, a feet that not even the monopoly had accomplished in its years here. Stories abound about his history, but one keeps popping up more than the others, which suggests it may be a place to start. Trimming it down to the basics, most of the locals believe he is a deserter from one of the Sub-Saharan African nations that were defeated during the war. He was appeared in town shortly after Lawrence Flagg forced the surrender in the Congo, and began terrorizing people. No one knows how he got here, and no one seems to want to.
This may seem unhelpful but I can't help but notice his propensity towards dogs and to hide his face. If I remember correctly, Flagg was able to round up all but one of the ringleaders of the African War, and the man who escaped was one with significant injuries to the right side of his face, who kept a half-dozen rottweilers at his home. Circumstantial at best, but a deposed warlord would seem to fit quite well with the sort of recruiting our rival organization does.
Oh, and if you happen to send someone else out here ever, please have them bring some good American beer. Or Canadian. Or British. The local stuff tastes like turpentine.
Psi Out.
A Survivor's Tale - Day 28
Weather let up slightly today, so I was able to go about my business more or less unnoticed. I headed out with the work crews this morning, moving between them so no one would expect me to be with any of them the whole day. No one has asked me my job because of a sort of reverse racial profiling, and even the foremen seem to believe I'm some sort of overseer. This will serve me in good stead for further investigations, not just in among the locals, but in attempting to get close to Goodfellow. His private jet flies in to the corporate airstrip this afternoon, and I'm going to try and get close to him tomorrow.
After a couple hours of making my presence known enough that no one would question my absence, I snuck off to visit our neighbours. Another shipment appears to have been unloaded yesterday. No fewer than three empty river barges were sitting there preparing to move downriver. Whatever they're doing has to be big, but I couldn't tell you what it is. Of note though, freaky dude in the yellow mask is here. He's was talking with the man in the iron mask. I shall now refer to them as Dread, for dreadlocks and yellow face, and Iron, for the iron mask and dogs. I don't have the equipment necessary to eavesdrop on what they were discussing but they looked quite animated. I can only assume that its due to our actions against the convoy in the jungle last week.
There is one good thing about the rain though, the dogs don't seem to smell me.
In other news Goodfellow is in town but has yet to leave wherever he's staying. And by wherever, I mean the big mansion on the edge of town with about three dozen guards at every door. I'm not crazy enough to break in there, but I'll see what I can do if and when he emerges.
Psi Out.
A Survivor's Tale - Day 29
Just so you all know, we're not the only ones interested in things around here. A foreman who I will call Spigou and I were speaking earlier, and to cut a long story short, we were both trying to pry information out of each other when we figured out that we're both not whom we appear to be. Spigou works for a certain Cruddy alphabet agency based in the same country as our hole in the ground. Their interest is apparently in Goodfellow rather than our operation, but he's been here about a week longer than I have and had a little information to add about the compound we're interested in.
Apparently the only time that someone leaves is when a certain private jet arrives on the Monopoly's corporate runway, which answers the question of whether Goodfellow knows who his neighbours are. Spigou was unable to shed any light on what or who would ahve come off that plane, but he's agreed to let you guys have at the interrogation they have planned for Mr. Goodfellow when he returns to America or any other extradition country. So you may want to get in touch.
Lastly, please look up who owns a plane with the tail number N4216S. May be quite useful.
Psi Out.
A Survivor's Tale - Day 30
The rain has stopped, but Goodfellow still hasn't exited his little castle. This leaves me in a bit of a spot, because it is now more difficult to sneak away from the work parties that I'm supposed to appear to be evaluating, and the dogs are smelling me again. Thankfully as yet, no one has asked for my identification, but Goodfellow's people have been all over the place. I may need to pull a disappearing act sooner than planned.
After some light digging this morning, I've found that the electrified fence around the compound goes beneath the soil for at least four feet, which makes the usual reverse-prison-break routine somewhat difficult. Snipping a wire is equally impractical as even a touch by a bird sets off a localized alarm. Normally this would make the guards around the place lose interest over time, jumping at so many false alarms, but the ones here are either uncommonly dedicated, or uncommonly terrified of their boss. I personally think the latter.
I got a look at part of a cargo that was uncovered though for my troubles, so the day wasn't a complete waste. Underneath a tarpaulin were a collection of electronic equipment that I wouldn't have recognized. Well, actually I don't anyway. But what I did see were several tanks labeled as Heavy Water. I'm no science geek, but I seem to remember that having something to do with radioactivity or sub-atomic particles. Talk to one of the nerds you have back there for an explanation, I don't know. It may not tell us much, but it tells us something.
Additionally, the location that they're being carted off too is called "Section Zero". At least that's what I heard some of the workers discussing. Not sure if that means anything to anyone. Also, of curiosity, or possible importance, is that all the workers here besides Dread and Iron appear to be of European, most likely British, origin. At least gauging by the few accents I was able to overhear. I'm not sure what you can task to this mission, but a spy satellite might tell you something.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 31
Unlike Psi's exciting life, we're all just sitting here in our little feted bunker. I've read the reports he's been sending you, and shockingly enough there might actually be a point to our being here other than just getting rid of the chaff. It rained here like it did there, and we're ankle deep in water even now. Apparently the engineers made the floor waterproof but not the ceiling. Such a lovely little detail.
Other than that its just a bunch of old goats sitting around sharing war stories and whining about our latest injuries. We're blind and deaf without our equipment along the trail, but none of us are crazy enough to go anywhere near there soon. Even though you probably wish we were.
Delta Out.
A Survivor's Tale - Day 32
Goodfellow finally exited his mansion yesterday. He's not going anywhere near the cutting fields, but has made stops at the cutting, packing and shipping warehouses. For all of about ten minutes each to make sure they're still standing. He's spent pretty much all of his time in the corporate offices the last two days looking over the paperwork that's generated there. I entered slightly behind his retinue and no one seemed to question my presence. The local workers think I'm with Goodfellow and Goodfellow thinks I'm a local, or more likely doesn't care.
For an innocent corporation they take a lot of safety precautions. In addition to their own hired muscle that patrols the town, Goodfellow has three Crimson Guards from Extensive Enterprises' Corporate Security Rental Division following him around. As usual they're in full combat armor including the helmets with assault rifles. This would normally just appear to be the paranoid mind of a CEO except for the fact that he has one of them hanging off his shoulder the whole time he's going over paperwork. At times I can see him nod slightly while he's working, almost to the point where I've thought a couple times that the Siegie was telling him what to do with it.
That seems ridiculous to me, but I can't shake the feeling. Something to note perhaps. Also, the Siegies who aren't reading all his paperwork appeared to be looking specifically for something in the room. I'm not sure what. Though I'm sure there are others who know better than me, if the Siegies are working corporate espionage for Extensive Enterprises this might be a valuable operation for them to pick up; a glance at the books as I moved around the office revealed a very healthy profit. Though I'd be curious to see how they'd handle our neighbours.
Because of them there's no chance for me to get Goodfellow alone. Spigou is also hanging around the office in his own way. Moving in and out for most of the morning, then disappearing. I'm not sure what he's arranging, but if I was him I'd be doing something to the man's plane to make him divert to Australia for pickup. If you've arranged something with our friends in the other organization, you may want to prepare for it. The talk I'm getting is that he's going to leave again tomorrow. He's already spent too much time here.
What's interesting is it seems like everyone who's at these meetings is deliberately ignoring the elephant in the room, or rather the mysterious installation to the north. One person was talking about logging operations in that direction, and started to say something about moving around something, which, based on where he was pointing on the map was the installation I'm investigating, but quickly changed to a different subject. No one even appeared to flinch when he did. Very odd indeed.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 33
Goodfellow took off earlier today. Nothing extra to report on that front. Took another scouting around the area of interest, and nothing new to report, other then Dread still being around here. I'm not sure what's going on, but he seems to have brought a bunch of infantry back with him, that didn't leave with the most recent column, which departed late yesterday.
I don't know what they're planning on doing, but if I had to guess our boys in the bunker should remain hunkered down for the next few days since I suspect this is a hunting party to locate them, so they should be careful.
The dog patrol chased me off before I could get anything more useful.
In town everyone's being worked double shifts to up production, so I have time to sneak around, which I can't do at the moment. But no one to gain intel from. Hopefully tomorrow will be more profitable.

Isnt Psi out in the field and Delta in the bunker?

Isnt Psi out in the field and Delta in the bunker?
Editing mistake. Thank you for pointing that out.
I sort of made the whole list of "Survivor's Tale Day X Delta Out" for the whole year before I decided to change narrators through the story and am editing in the appropriate name. I missed that one.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 34
Its raining again. So I went sneaking around again. Nothing to be seen more than normal; the tarps are tied down completely to prevent anything coming exposed. Either they're paranoid, or they think they're being watched. I would have loved to get a look at this place before we showed up so we could know which.
Either way this storm has been useful in another way; the slope to the side of the fence at the rear of the compound is being eroded slightly. Though most of the soil is held in place by the tree roots, parts of it near one particularly large one are getting washed away. A bit of slight trenching on my part may have assisted that. If this storm keeps up, which it looks like it will, that tree won't be able to remain upright. It just so happens that its close enough to the compound's fence that if it were to fall, it would break through a section or two, turning off the fence.
Of course, security will congregate at the broken section, but 120 degrees around the fence there is a section tucked behind a series of transport trucks that no one can see. With the system off, I can just monkey over and take a stroll around without anyone noticing. The trouble may be in getting out, but I'll deal with that problem if I get in.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 35
TIMBER! The tree toppled mid-afternoon.
On one hand, it's allowed me to sneak into the compound, on the other, it let me observe their response time. Forty-one seconds flat for a full squad of troopers to be on scene and another dozen fanning out in a search pattern. Whoever's been training these guys they're well organized. I would wager to guess that at least a few of them are ex-military, but I'm not really certain.
Dread and Iron are especially angry. The two guards who were supposed to be patrolling that side of the fence were executed. But nothing so clean as a bullet through. That would be too normal. Each man was stripped to his skin and held up by two others. Dread then takes one of the dozen blades that seem to hang off him at all times and slits the a chillies tendon on both legs, and whatever muscle it is on the inside of your elbow.
That would normally be bad enough but he then added a variety of wounds all around their bodies. I was assuming at this point that they would just be left to bleed out, but no. They were literally fed to the fucking dogs! I fought through Siberia and North Korea, and I've never seen anything as brutal as this. Every man in the camp was forced to watch in the center of the empty square before being returned to their duties. The bodies were tossed in a trash compactor once the animals had had their fill.
Sickening as that was to watch, the dogs are at least lethargic at the moment, so it gives me the rest of the day to snoop around in here. That said, they have dudes in purple uniforms and some concoction of tools already working to cut up the tree and fix the fence. I guess I have about three hours to gather intel and get the heck out of here before I'm trapped. I will report when, and if I can.
If I don't make a report within 36 hours. Please, tell my parents...um...nevermind.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 36
If I'd stuck around that place about eight seconds longer than I had, I'd have been nice and crispy for the dogs when they found my body. Even as it was, I barely let go of the fence in time to avoid being more chared then my uncle Frank's steak. I've got a large number of images and notes from this trip that I'll try to send to you tomorrow when I have some spare time to uplink. I know I almost missed the window today, but I had to get around the work crews before I could report.
I believe the appropriate phrase is dead on my feet.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 37
I managed to spend the whole day at home without anyone coming to kill me, so I assume yesterday's activities went unnoticed. Sujatmi insisted on keeping me company all day after a hard day's work, and she's extremely attentive. I had to kick her out to get food so I could make this report.
The nearest I can tell, they're working on two different projects. The first one boggles my mind so I'm not going to try and explain it in detail, but based on the various labels you can see in images 1 through 23 *FILES ATTACHED* its likely something to do with particle physics. (That is what a particle accelerator is for I assume?) Does that mean they could be making a bomb? I don't know, but someone should start piecing that together pretty quickly. We already know that they set ones off in India before the war, and I don't think we want to have to deal with that somewhere else. I'll let you sort that out.
The second batch of things appear to be parts for a series of robots. Yes, I'm serious. Images 24 through 45 should prove it. *FILES ATTACHED* I tried to get some serial numbers in those so you can make an attempt to match them with manufacturers. Most of them were rubbed off or unbolted from the parts, but those should be enough. I may not be an engineer, or anything close to one, but I'm pretty certain that's what this stuff is for.
This tells me that we're not looking at a regular Cobra base in the jungle, but some sort of research plant. I'm not really sure what you want us to do with it. I'm going to go dark for a few days in case they notice something odd.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 38
Well, with Psi going off for a few days to screw the local girl, I guess you have to suffer through our reports from base. Its like watching paint peel. We've managed to put in the irrigation system so we're not ankle deep in water anymore.
Since creepy dude is back harassing the village, we sent Phi and Alpha to re-set some monitors on the trail yesterday. They haven't made it back yet, but I assume they will eventually. Otherwise, we're just staring at the pics Psi sent with that transmission trying to figure out what we're looking at. Apparently the expendable grunts are too dumb. Your on your own with those.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 41
Two days we've been without contact, not that you probably missed us anyway. Heck, you were probably hoping we wouldn't get in touch now!
What happened you ask?
Well, as advertised, Phoenix generators do not burn out. I'm sure the makers will be glad to hear that. Unfortunately, when your satellite dish gets hit by lightening, it tends to.
Not that there was anything to report anyway other than more rain. And unlike Psi, we don't have any amusing distractions to occupy our times. Just six men crammed into an increasingly stuffy makeshift bunker. What else is new.
I'd say call me, but I know you won't, unless the world is ending. Actually, you still probably wouldn't.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 42
The rain is becoming somewhat annoying, even in town. The streets are quagmires, and even the most hard-assed foremen have given their men the day off work. Normally this would provide an opportunity to pump them for information but I can't get anywhere near the bars, and as far as I can tell, neither can anyone else.
Are you sure you shouldn't have sent in a dive team for this place. Unless it stops raining soon, there's nothing to report.
Psi Out.
A Survivor's Tale - Day 43
Remember what I said about the rain? Still locked in. Nothing to report
Psi Out.
A Survivor's Tale - Day 44
Psi may not have anything to report, but I finally do. Surprised you buggers, didn't I?
Phi and Alpha's sensor replacing has finally paid off, we caught sight of something on the trial, but rather than heading towards wherever it is they've been taking stuff, it was headed back towards Sampit. We couldn't make it out, but it seemed like some sort of infantry unit. But something seemed off. Sigma thinks that it's their gait that's wierd. Even with the mud on the trail, its awkward, and to quote him "not organic." Which I assume means he thinks that there's three hundred robots marching towards a logging town.
Yep. Makes sense.
I've copied this to Psi. Perhaps he can check it out if he gets his dick out of that local girl long enough.

A Survivor's Tale - Day 45
I'd love to say the weather outside could be worse...but i'm really not sure how. Well, blizzard conditions, but this is the tropics so that's somewhat unlikely. Though given how the last month has been...
I managed to get close to the fence line of everyone's favorite compound and made the observations I could. Which were rather limited. They've cut the tree-cover back almost 100 yards so there will be no more 'mishaps' with the fence. This makes sneaking up somewhat more difficult. But the rain helped somewhat. Whoever, or if Sigma's suspicion is to be believed whatever, the group was, they were loaded on a barge, and shipped downriver.
We're either looking at a training center, or something that's building war robots. I'm hoping the former. much less...sci-fi.
Other than painfully long descriptions of rain and mud, that's all I managed to get in this weather. I'd promise more, but would you believe they don't have a forcast here?
