I don't get the whole pre-order thing (except for context exclusives) for games. So much places carry large amounts of the same game for the same price so I don't think there was ever any game that I had a hard time finding on day one.

I had my pre-order for my PS2 system pretty long though; almost a year because I traded in my PS1 for the credit early on and there was a long delay for the 2nd shipment of PS2s to arrive since Sony had the epic PS2 launch shortage problem. LOL.

Starcraft:Ghost, only to never see a release date.

other than that, Zelda:Twilight Princess for almost 3 years.

I Run a retailer that takes pre-orders on upcoming games, and it's so funny to hear that people don't reserve games to this day. One, your ensuring that you don't waste gas to drive all over the place to find a game. Two, you're not losing anything by pre-ordering. Three, you help out someone just trying to make a living. With the economy the way it is, most home offices have been cutting costs by reducing product orders. That in turn causes the individual retailers to have a reduced stock. More often than not I happen to sell out of a title on the first or second day due to the supply being what was on reserve plus 10%. It gets extremely frustrating to have people flip out on me because I sold out when they didn't reserve it. People reserve stuff other than video games every day (SW Blu Ray set anyone?) yet too many people view it as unnecessary for "just a game".
