agreed!

I have way to many Destros tho...but still...agreed! hasbro always seems to make pretty good Destro figures...I like the rest of the figs too but they look a tad less exciting than I thought...but it could be the camera...and Low-Light is Low-Light...he doesn't need to be over the top he just needs his signature look. I must point out that Shadow Tracker's card art is quite amazing!

It usually takes awhile in my area to get figures anyway, but I am afraid that there will be some delay with wave 3. Although, I haven't seen many revision cases in my area and over the weekend noticed that some of the pegs at Target were starting to clear a little.

These look so great! I love the card art for this wave, especially Shadow Tracker!

I'm still pissed that Destro doesn't get his smart gun like I thought he would. I was sure that if they were putting it in his card art, his fig would keep it. But then the new Duke has him carrying an MP5 instead of his Pulse rifle...

PoC Wave 4 is already in my pile of loot on bigbadtoystore. I ordered and received PoC Wave 3 last week and well there's still no sign of it showing up soon. This is very odd year for collecting. Normally, when orders get shipped to people from online retailers its a sign that within days they should be showing up in retail. However, this year all the retailers are slow at placing new action figures on pegs for some reason. Most of what i'm trying to catch up on is three months old but never got released in retail. Last year around this time, action figure aisles to max capacity and even had floor displays for the overstock. this year, the pegs are half full, figures are still normal price and no major push for Star Wars, Transformers, Tron legacy, MU, IM2 and especiall Joes. What gives?

It's been the opposite for me. I've actually had to cancel online orders because I managed to find the stuff at retail before they even shipped anything. The only exception was the wave 2 figures which I received just barely before they showed up in stores.

These are neat. Was wondering how all of Gears of War Destro's gear got packed away on the tiny bubble. This is the one with the chainblazer gun and the case of of money after all.

Its a great definitive destro: "weapons supplier" , rather than the eccentric businessman overlord in rise of cobra. The red dressings may be critizied as to neon, but it will at least feel at home in a display with alley viper, the cobra deviant, or the cobra fury.
A interesting choice chromeing destros head, Its still a awesome destro figure, but there may be those who favored the silver applications we saw at joecon.

I probably won't understand the appeal of shadow tracker until I have it in hand. It must be the huge bow and arrow right? Its the nano-viper holdover stylings from rise of cobra that are unsettling.

Low Light is one of the most highly requested modern era update joes. And its so close. And so perfectly armed. The must have figure of the wave: its going to be hot.

Skydive. Its great. I imagine its going to be a bit hindered like the para-vipers, but its still extremely detailed with a realistic flight suit concept: It looks like something that could really be operateing today. So glad its not ripcord. dodged that bullet.

Wait. Skydive is a "Halo Jumper" That sounds cool, I guess its gritty in the barracks Joe speak that recognizes the suits Angel like wings.

"Lets get him suited up. Time to earn your Halo."

Xenos
12-06-2010, 12:17 PM
Halo is "High Altitude, Low Opening". That's what Ripcord has always been, a HALO Jumper.

The Low Light looks great, by far my most wanted figure in the entire PoC line.

Shadow Tracker is good, not great. I'll probably like him more once I have him in hand.

I want the money Destro has. It looks so cool. I might have to buy several of him just for that.

I got a Ripcord from China, so I'm not all that excited about Skydive, but it's a fantastic figure. I might get a couple and put different heads on them.

I think it's more a case of his body being that huge, with the armor bulking it up even more. DEstro's always been a big dude, I think I read somewhere even his original ARAH version was the tallest fig released up to that point.

One question does anyone thing that the shin guards can come off on Destro? If it can then that would be a neat figure to troop build as a mercernary force after one removes Destro's head and replace it with a normal person head. the Camo on them would be neat.

This is the best wave by far. Its nice that they introduced a new character to the line with Shadow tracker. If they do stop producing these figures and add in the Renegades to take over the line it will be a shame. the carton charachters look horrible in my opinion and th POC line are the best looking line with great accessories they have ever introduced.

From what I’ve heard, they plan to retain the POC realism and detail for the Renegades figures. I feel the Renegades character designs are really solid, a great foundation on which to build up more detail. Also, I think a major benefit that will come from the transition into Renegades figures is that it will hopefully force the inclusion of characters like Scarlett, Baroness, Bludd, Jinx, Dreadnoks, and others into the toy line, who probably would not have been included in a line that was not based on an actual cartoon. The fact that we already have so many female characters playing central roles in Renegades bodes well, IMO, for some great POC-style Renegades female figures.

I think Renegades will help to increase character diversity within the line, freeing it up from relying so heavily on the same 4 or 5 characters, like Duke, SE, SS, etc...

Sorry if this constitutes thread drift, but I have a quick question.

Someone mentioned elsewhere in this thread that the Renegades cartoon is at least tangentially (or directly, depending on your point of view) responsible for we collectors being able to see characters like Bludd, Jinx, etc. in the Joe line next year. I'm curious how many of you think that the Renegades cartoon is *already* starting to exert an influence on sales of the PoC Joes currently on pegs?

Some part of me thinks that the majority of the 'heat' seen in recent sales is mostly due to the holidays, but another part of me wants to believe that even at this early stage the cartoon is having some amount of impact on sales. Anyone care to comment?

All of Wave 4 showed up today thanks to BBTS. I don't have the time or desire for a more verbose, but I did want to drop a quick line to announce the clear winner in this wave by a thousand miles- LOWLIGHT!!

Many will review this guy in the coming months, so I will spare you (and myself) the trouble here. Needless to say he's absolutely loaded for bear. The two highlights are not only the fold-out backpack that can hold accessories, but also the rifle bag that fits his silencer, scope, rifle, etc., etc. Also, he's got plenty of places on his person to store the aforementioned scope, pull-out knife, etc. In other words, this guy absolutely flippin rocks!! In fact, I have zero doubt that he will be among the stand-out favorites from any action figure series for 2011.

My one complaint is his rifle. The fold-out stock gets all squirrely depending on the position LL tries to hold it and won't stay in some positions (it often pops off, as does his removeable scope). I had a dickens of a time getting this titular piece of equipment to work and finally got it stay with it aimed down. If you want LL to hold it as if he's about to fire good luck getting his right hand to hold the trigger grip with the stock up against his shoulder (again, it gets squirrely). If anyone can make it work, I'd like to see it.

I haven't had a chance yet to open the rest of the wave, but I'm sure the remainder will be similarly jaw-dropping.

Stygian
01-12-2011, 12:22 PM
Okay, so now having also opened Skydive and Shadow Tracker I can clearly say that- of all the modern era Joe series thus far (200x), this Wave is my favorite! Granted there are only four figures, but I really enjoy them all and for very different reasons. Some I like for the visual asthetic and others for the sheer amount of gear, but overall there is purest win to be had here all around.

BTW, to the guy who removed Shadow Trackers mask just to see what his face looks like underneath- you are one brave collector! Not sure I could similarly butcher a beloved figure and still feel good about it, but to each his/her own.

Anyway, my favorite of the Wave is still Low-Light, but Shadow Tracker is a very close second. And although not awful by any means Skydive is my least favorite simply because he seems to lack that oomph that the others possess. Perhaps it's the lack of a facial sculpt and recycling of the Firefly/Alley Viper head or the fact that he's wearing gear destined for another better figure (poor Ripcord), but overall he's just kind of meh.

I still have yet to open Destro, but I have a feeling Low-Light is safe in the top spot.

Destro seems a bit out of character. Badass figure, but I think I will do a quick head swap with him. I've got a ROC Charbroil head that will look pretty good on that guy. Re-task him as some heavy weapons viper.

I think we'd need to know more about what the ratings have been like for the show, so we know people actually are watching (besides us), and then actual sales figures to know if the line is selling, or if the stores just aren't ordering.

In the words of Johnny 5, "Need input!"

I wouldn't expect too big of a ratings bit for Renegades, many don't get Hub because it's either not offered by their service OR it's on a higher price tier of service.

I would say the huge RoC sales from TRU + the Ross/TJ/Marshalls carrying a ton of cheap Joes over the Xmas season did have an influence. I think a lot of people started to pick them up for cheap, give them to the kids, and start that seed that they might want the newer PoC stuff they see in stores now. The line is still Collector heavy, but I have heard kids mention GI Joe more and more in the toy aisle suddenly.

Meanwhile, I'd say the Avengers cartoon has been a big boost for getting the MU line additional buyers over the Xmas season. I know the line is getting more popular, but I've seen alot of kids begging mommy & daddy for MU since Avengers started up. Disney has its benefits...

I think it might be to early to know. Adding to that, not all kids have the HUB, nor do all of them know to watch the episodes online via HUBworld and/or youtube.

You're probably right. From a numbers perspective it would be difficult to separate any uptick in sales possibly related to the cartoon from what is more obviously the holiday dash for last minute stocking stuffers. That being said, number crunchers should be able to look at the number of viewers for the show and balance that against post-holiday figures and see if the action figure sales numbers continue to increase, stay the same, or even decline (which probably happens anyway as not every wave will have sought after characters). After all, there is a finite number of adult collectors who snatch up all of the great stuff as soon as they see it, but that still leaves many bushels of figures left to sell to kids/moms.

My question is; who are the bushels of leftover Destro, SE and SS peg warmers intended to appeal to once the collectors have snagged their share? I assume based on Hasbro's comments in the past that these three characters in particular are hot sellers and should have a peg presence with nearly every wave; however, from what my eyes can tell these are also often the peg warmers once the pegs are cleared of the more sought after figures. Kids aren't dumb (well most anyway) and they know a really cool character who maybe hasn't been seen repeatedly over the last 6 waves but is none the less a true work of art from a figure who they probably have way too many versions of already- vis a vi SS.

I'm just saying that it seems like Hasbro could give these more marque characters a rest for a few waves and instead focus on giving toy buyers more gorgeousness like Low-Light!
