Nothing like comparing a hard-R rated theatrical anime to a TV series. I'd also like to see Ninja Scroll on a TV budget. Oh... wait... THEY DID THAT! For 13 episodes and it sucked a big fat sack of dicks. Argument invalid. :D
As opposed to anything anybody did in Ninja Scroll? :)
Just proves nothing here buddy.

I think there is some potential here. Wolverine and the X-men (best cartoon in a while) even started slowly and then got really really good. The introduction of characters that they are doing in this is very similar.
There is something about it though that is just...boring and I think it's the desgins. They really need to add some depth to the animation. More shadowing, the movement is fine but they showed a shot of Duke and I swore it looked like Beavis when they were looking at his dossier.
I'm willing to give it a change but it is missing the magic of the original 80's show which 9 times out of 10 still blows most mondern cartoons out of the water.
I think Hasbro is trying though so I give them credit for that.

Would’ve been cool if the blast took out Bludd’s eye AND his hair.
For the most part, I like Bludd’s look. Someone mentioned before that he looks kind of Dreadnoky, and I can see that. Oh, and apparently the Dreaknoks are gonna appear in what, ep. 9 or so? YAY!
Love how Bludd mixed it up with SE, funky-machete-Aussie-sword to katana. He obviously didn’t know who he was messing with. But hell, he held his own, though if the fights weren’t suddenly interrupted I assume he would have…well, lost.
Bludd’s car was cool.
Not thrilled about his backup in that warehouse fight. I assumed he’d have a couple blueshirts with him. I guess these Bios are new and improved?
Loved the chase sequence, loved Flint’s face-plant into the airbag when his jeep fell into the crater. Damn!
A couple overly convenient coincidences perhaps: The Joes just happened to be in the truck that received the Package at the loading bay; Bludd’s thrown blade destroyed the scanner. But hey, maybe I’m nitpicking. Question is, would a kid give a damn about such coincidences. I’d think no, or very little.

Just because I use humor to point out the logical fallacies of an argument doesn't make my point any less valid, nor does it mean I've flamed anybody.
Staff edit:
1. No trolling, or flaming.
Any form of personal insult is a no-no. As a basic rule of thumb: if you think that what you are about to post is insulting, don't post it. No posting with the intent of starting "Drama". If you feel the need to start trouble, go elsewhere. Zef you're right with the above response but the one I edited out was not necessary- Shin

did ss appear at all in ep3?
No, they'll probably save his "renegades" look for the end of the two parter showing Snake Eyes' past.
I figure it'll go something like this:
Show SE in modern times on a mission, he'll get attacked and we'll see the sillouette of Storm Shadow. Then there'll be the flashback showing SE's past and we'll learn about Storm Shadow and everything, then at the end of the story we'll be back in modern times and there will be a reveal showing Storm Shadow as the one who attacked SE and how he's now part of Cobra.
Either that or the flashback will be intermixed with clips of stuff happening in modern times

I think the show is amazing. But I liked the Sigma 6 cartoon too, so there you go!
I wasn't a fan of the toyline, but only because they weren't compatible with my already sizable collection. I was glad to see them go.

Just watched ep 3 on Youtube. It's getting better story wise but geez the voice acting for Major Bludd was just awful.
It meandered between Mockney (fake Cockney) and Afrikaans...sigh.

Heh, I'm just the opposite. Loved the toys, though the cartoon was like getting a root canal.
I'm loving Renegades so far. Sure I've got some minor complaints here and there, but overall, it is awesome. Can't wait until we really get into the meat of Season 1!

I think Bludd was aiming for Breaker's backpack for just that reason.
Upon a second viewing, I'm not sure they even knew for a fact he had the scanner. It was more a case that "his theories are hitting too close" and Bludd's objective was simply to kill him, which is why at the end when he thinks he's put a knife in Breaker's back he tells the Baroness, "Target Eliminated", which was pretty ballsy for a kids show.

Bludd tells the Baroness, "Target Eliminated"
and then the Baroness immediately replies "and the scanner is no longer functioning, but what happened to my weapons cache?"
So it seems they knew he had the scanner all along and wanted it destroyed.

Yeah, but I'm not sure how they leap to that conclusion though. No way Bludd could have even known the scanner was in the backpack unless that eye had x-ray vision. I'd just chalk it up to a continuity gaff and not dwell too hard on it.

The only thing I can figure is after the update at SSS Mart... Cobra was able to track the scanner and when Bludd hit it with the knife the signal went dead or it could be a continuity gaff.

All they have to do to Bludd now is have a second explosion blow his arm off!
That wasnt a robotic arm. How I understood it, ARAH Bludd's arm was a sort of armored protective glove like that of a knight. So Bludd wouldnt blow off his arm whenever he fired those micro-missiles.

yeah, who would have thought that the gun had sights on top to look down for better accuracy? I love it when its turned sideways cause it "looks cool", which it doesn't. Bothered the heck out of me!

I'm calling it right now. SE is now officially the only one allowed to use the "kill shot" in a non-humorous way, because he's Snake Eyes.

SE is handicapping himself by not using the sights. His badass-itude cannot be contained in an animated series so he has to "dumbdown" his skills.

Okay, now about the future Renegades figures…there will of course be the look and style of the figures themselves, as well as the card art, and the cartoon they are based on. We know the art style of the cartoon, and I have heard that the figures will have a “realistic”, perhaps POC style to them, so…what about the card art? How does that work? Realistic or stylized? Seems like a pretty big divergence between cartoon and POC style.

I think the card art will be 25th style; using a digitally painted style similar to the original ARAH art style and not going as photo-realistic as the POC style.

Oh right, I forgot that the 25th and POC card art really is quite different. Haven't looked at my 25th carded figs in a while. Hopefully the Renegades card art will succeed in bridging that stylistic chasm between the show and the figures.
I REALLY hope they release these things pre-Fall 2011.

At that range, it is pretty much point and shoot. No need for sights. Come on, the Bioviper was like what? 4 feet away? Okay, let's say Snake Eyes took two steps, big ones and was 10 yards away. Heck, I could have been stood on my head, spun around then quick-drawed and fired from the hip and hit the dang thing.
I think Snake Eyes...heck, any of the Joes, even the corpse of Ripcord...could have made the shot blindfolded.

But all the people upset about this is weird. It was a cool little scene. And, I haven't been able to go back, but...
A: Isn't that the angle Duke throws it and he catches it at? So...ninja like economy of movement?
B: Looking at the scene, despite the angle, it looks like he is lining up the sights pretty well, even holding it sideways

I just chalk it up to the fact that SE is supposed to be the "cool kid", and that type of nonsense is what you see in all the action movies. Also, since SE is the only member not in the military (AFAWK) he would be the only one who would be reasonably able to exhibit sloppy marksmanship techniques. The Nok's might likely shoot this way aswell.

The form and the function do not match up...
1) The storyline is way too complex, talky, and technical for kids.
2) The style of the characters, their dialogue, and how they interact with each other is too juvenile for teens and adults.
You can't be all things to all people and that's what they're trying to do here. So in the end you get something that neither group can enjoy.

1) I used to watch Star Trek and Doctor Who when I was 7 yrs old. Didn't understand half of what was going on, and I didn't give a crap because Kirk was drop-kicking some alien or Romana was giving me very naughty dreams in a French schoolgirl outfit.
2) More than 68% of the people here seem to be enjoying it according to the poll at the top of the page, and this is the pickiest, most anal retentive sods on the planet where GI Joe is concerned. If you can please this group, or even most of it, they're off to a pretty good start, and by all indications the series hasn't even hit its stride yet. Bludd was an epic win and we haven't seen Destro, Zartan, or the others yet.

I was right there with you man, but I think we are a minority in both of those instances. Ask 10 people on the street who Doctor Who is and 9 won't have a clue. Ironically, my 5 year old is more interested in current Doctor Who than Renegades. In Doctor Who you have colorful heroes and villains with different abilities and powers and dynamic action. In Renegades you have a bunch of baggy pants kids all firing the same pulse guns that don't hurt anyone so there's nothing at stake

Bludd was an epic win and we haven't seen Destro, Zartan, or the others yet. I actually voted "not that good" in the poll above which means there are some things about it that I like. For example the Baroness' characterization is spot on which is refreshing after they threw everything that made her fun out the window in ROC. And using the "A-Team" plot as a starting point is a fresh take on the mythos. But the "hip hop" look of the character's uniforms and their teenage dialogue ("Is he your boyfriend?") grates on my eyes and ears.
As much as I also didn't like Sigma 6, it's success comes from the fact that it was a kid-looking show with kid understandable plots and lots of action. And Resolute was great because it had an adult plot and style.
I just feel that this relaunch could have been so much better if they weren't trying to appeal to both groups at the same time. And I shudder to think of figures stylized as they appear in this cartoon...

Figures will be realistic style. Hasbro confirmed they put the kibosh on that before any tooling got done.
Like I said, show doesn't seem to have hit its stride yet. They're taking their time and slowly building things up over time. This can be a double edged sword, as things can continuously improve over time and get better and better, but also if you hold back too much at first, then you risk people losing interest. Very few shows hit that magic sweet spot. I think the big acid test will be the season finally, when I suspect all the groundwork they're laying out will come to a head.

It took me forever to finally watch the damn thing but I did and I gotta say......I LOVE IT!!
I love it for a few reasons and I'm gonna ramble about em so here we go.
Being that I HATED ROC and was super concerned that ROC was the G.I.JOE we were handing off to the new generation, well Renegedas totally alleviated all anxiety about that.
Yes obviously some of the characters are very different from how we knew them and yes Ripcord is derived from ROC Ripcord, but I thought the idea, the plot, the "package" was written well enough to keep the attention of an adult.
It also had a VERY "throwback cartoon" vibe that just increased the fun factor by 100, and hopefully THAT will keep the attention of the kids.
Updated characters? If you can say you don't like what they've done with Major Blood you're either lying or just an incredibly difficult person. (Also if they make these figures PLEASE make that car!)
Cobra just rocked, I mean there are so many hints of Marvel run and Sunbow Cobra in there you can't complain!
Renegades is good. There should be no one on this board with the same complaint as ROC.
If this is what the "kids" are gonna know G.I.JOE as--both the O.G. fans and the franchise are doing alright.
Now, PLEASE release Major Blood's damn car!! :)

They're developing the characters well, but sometimes the episodes do drag on. I like adding new spins to the characters, but sometimes reinventing the past is agitating - for example SE's past (which has been reinvented how many times now?). The story may make sense, but there's always a new approach to the same destination.

This week's SE origin episode was a step in a better direction. It was good to see more action and less teenage banter. The fights were more interesting and it was good to see Duke put in his place...repeatedly. :-)
The hint of SE feelings for Scarlett was also a nice touch.
