I liked Renegades a lot more than Prime, which I also enjoyed. But I confess I'm stuck in the past as far as preferring old school animation to computer-generated.
I imagine Joe fans who like their Joe pure military won't enjoy Renegades as much as those who appreciate the sci-fi elements, though honestly I think there was plenty of military content.
I liked the re-interpretations. Come on, new Dr. Mindbender is far more "realistic" than his source material. :)

Prime is going to resonate and own over renegades with the kids I am affraid. Renegades dosent have anything over Prime at this juncture.
hell thats a good thing lol since TF owns over joe every time anyway.
lucky for you all of the Joe you know and love is on DVD. Lucky for the kids there is something new for them.
hey i said i hope kids like it. im happy with my dvd joes. it seems to me 90% of the ppl on here dont care as long as it says joe on it. have the mass all be brain washed lol.

Sorry, just wanted to re-post that so I could read it instead of seaching back a couple of pages.
If you want 80's G.I.Joe, buy the DVDs and relive the adventure any time you want.
This new take on Joe, IMO, is rather kick ass. Looking forward to seeing how the plot develops. Absolutely LOVE all of the vehicles shown so far.
Prime reminded me of Beast Machines meets Energon...but still a win as well.
yeah Flint's jeep sure did look a lot like a modern VAMP without the guns/launcher.

You know people who worked on the show are watching this thread for the immediate reaction, and I'm glad it's been so overwhelmingly positive (except for a few trolls).
The series, is in terms of overall quality from the animation, to the designs, to the voice acting, to the script, to the pacing, are all as good or better than anything I've seen on TV in recent years, and that's including a lot of DC stuff.
It's a very solid work and I think it just needs to get some exposure to the intended audience to take off.

Or you try to troll-bait them in to a fight so that when you receive an infraction you try to make yourself seem like a martyr. *Yawn* Rinse, repeat.
Anyway, I really hope we get that Cobra Transport vehicle (the one carrying the missile). Pure WIN.
That new Joe vehicle is the same design of the Humvee that was going to be used in the Live Action Joe movie until it was scrapped (see here - G.I. and how well has that worked for Avengers? I'll tell you what, lets just continue this conversation after one of the shows are canceled. Deal?

Not so, not so.
Marvel: Definitive GIJOE to me.
Sunbow: Nostalgia and majority of it still very enjoyable.
DiC: Other than seeing those classic characters animated it's barely tolerable.
SpyTroops: Ghastly.
Valor Versus Venom: Horrid.
Sigma Six: I know I'm in the minority but I liked it and would have been so all over GIJOE re-interpreted as anime had the accompanying toys been 3 3/4" scale and matched my other stuff.
Rise of COBRA: Despised it utterly, zero desire to ever see it again after its initial view in the theater.
Resolute: Loved it!!!
Renegades: I have loved what I've seen so far!
I'm not familiar with Sgt. Savage and the later Joe comics so I can't comment.

Better luck next season, hopefully you will ramp up the quality, especially with story and dialouge and get this thing on an HD channel vs. SD....

Wow! A new TF cartoon and a new GI Joe cartoon all in one afternoon!?? It feels like 1984 all over again :0)
I have to say, I had reservations about Renegades after seeing the previews (they really didn't do the show justice), but the show itself came together really well I thought. The animation is very reminiscent of the Men in Black toon (which someone pointed out previously), but I actually liked that show so it's all good. I dug all the characters, the animation was good and the story telling solid. I didn't feel like it was talking down to me (an adult viewer) at all. I really like the "us against them" angle of them as fugitives. I liked that the show pulled no punches.
Still not digging Cobra Commander's half-mask, but that a minor quibble in an overall enjoyable show. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

I have to say the 1st 15 minutes were a lttle rough with the all jokes, nicknames, & lackluster animation.... The last 45 minutes were GREAT though, the animation improved, the dialogue improved, & the action impoved. I liked Scarlett, Flint, Lady Jaye, Baroness, Hawk, & Duke. I also liked the color pallette (as I woud do something similar myself w/Joe) & the design work was a fresh Western-animation style...I think killing Ripcord off early (if he is in fact dead) was a total fanwank by killing off a well-known detested reincarnation. I think the show has a ton of potential, toys have a ton of potential, & I will continue to watch as I think it CAN be great.
Transformers Prime was excellent, & much better than I expected. I found it very Movie-esque (style/music), but the characters were mostly solid & it was overall exciting & surprising. Arcee, Megatron, StarScream, & Ratchet were all great. I liked how the Autobots mostly didn't like the kids, & zombie Cliffjumper was crazy...
They are both off to a good start, let's keep it going Hasbro!!

Wow. I really enjoyed that. That was really well done, and there are alot of sly nods to the original series. I LOVED the Baroness, Flint, LJ, TR, and Roadblock. The Commander was perfect. Very, very impressed.
The entire family was GLUED to the TV. Two adults, an eight year old, and a toddler that's almost three. The fact that the show had a deep enough story, with intrigue, to keep the adults entertained. Enough cool plot points, characters, and villians, to keep my eight year old saying "cool, and woah!", and enough fast paced action to keep a three year old mesmerized bodes really, really well for this series.
Much like with the original imagining of ARAH, Renegades has plenty of sly social commentary layered in there already. Multiple subplots already being hinted at even in the first two episodes.
Personally, While not all the military etiquette, and jargon was completely on the level, I like the fact that they showed the distrust between the "regular" Joes, and the soldiers who deal in the intelligence aspect of the military.
I dug the art enough, though I am very glad we will be getting these figures in the more realistic style. Atleast for now. All I can say is, when is the next new episode on, and when are we going to see toys of those vehicles?!?!?
As an aside, I really, really didn't care for the look of PRIME, though my kids definitely did. HOWEVER, that is one dark, dark storyline. So I'll give the art a pass.

While the change in animation may have escaped me, the dialogue definitely got better after the initial Ripcord nonsense. This show has the potential to be HUGE, if the word just gets out there.
I also liked the color pallette (as I woud do something similar myself w/Joe) I think the show has a ton of potential, toys have a ton of potential, & I will continue to watch as I think it CAN be great.
I agree. It's got a nicely subdued pallet. To me, that is something that has been overlooked in the past, and VASTLY improved the "feel" of this series being about soldiers, and a "ruthless evil corporation". Even though there are tons of fantastic elements in this show, it helps it feel more "grounded", which I think lies at the heart of Joe. Keeping that delicate balance between the fantastic, and the believable.
They are both off to a good start, let's keep it going Hasbro!!

Good.
I'm a transplant to Alabama but I got my master's degree at Auburn and am sentimental about it.
Plus, they have much nicer merchandise than Alabama.
I know how intensely the Auburnites want to win Iron Bowl. I did a little internet reading, looks like it was a good game for those who enjoy football.

Yeah, but compared to back when the storytelling is so much better. The age of VHS, DVD, and then the internet has made it so much easier to study different kinds of storytelling and be influenced by different sources. Animation isn't as widespread, but it has matured and grown as an art form considerably since then, I dare-say even faster than live-action film-making (one could say that it was finally catching up).

I liked both Prime and Renegades...perhaps Prime a little less...it was okay but felt like I was watching a video game. But the story seems interesting enough.
Renegades I liked better good story...not overly happy with the animation but I think in both shows the story is likely to outweigh my issues with animation.
I really hope these two properties have found their Clone Wars.
Oh and I'm looking forward to figures of R: Lady Jaye, Baroness, and Scarlett...just for new female heads.

Prime reminded me of Beast Machines meets Energon...but still a win as well.
Since Renegades is an all new continuity I'm alright with some changes here and there as long as the story and characterizations are good.
With regards to PRIME...I did not like Beast Machines and Energon(I have heard that the ending to Beast Machines made up for how bad the series was). Been hearing mostly praise with regards to PRIME aside from it's overall aesthetic, so hopefully it's good. Some are saying Orci and Kurtzman did a better job on it than on the movies.
i'm still processing the experience.
i really dig them equally.
there are things about both that i didn't think i'd like, but i was surprisingly receptive and enjoyed them as a whole. they were VERY well done. i'm so glad i was so wrong. i was hoping it would turn out that way.
i love Megatron and Mindbender. Prime is so good too.
Hmm. I've read good things about PRIME, and PRIME was not looking too good with the initial trailers. The latest ones look far more polished. I dig Megatron's design a great deal. Glad he looks more solidified rather than crumpled aluminum foil with a claw. Even Optimus is looking better(but could still be significantly better proportion-wise). If Siebenaler is designing the Megatron toy(working on Bulkhead and Optimus IIRC), considering what he did on ROTF and Animated, the figures should be EXCELLENT. I really hope Megatron is a leader class figure.

I'm really hoping we see one of those big Cobra transport trucks, with rubber tires, and a tow hitch. I know if done right it'd be BIG and expensive, but I really think if they did it well it'd finally be an Echo class vehicle worth the money.
Really wish they would switch to rubber tires.

Only if it's a really stiff kind of rubber like the Snake Traxx has. If it's soft rubber then you can't powerslide.

Personally, I love the softer rubber that came on the RoC Steel Crusher, but anything is better then those awful hollow hard plastic wheels we've been getting for the last 28 years. They've shown they can do it, and make it work. I think it's time to make them the rule, instead of the exception.

My reformed thoughts, channeled through others:
Wow! A new TF cartoon and a new GI Joe cartoon all in one afternoon!?? It feels like 1984 all over again :0)
I have to say, I had reservations about Renegades after seeing the previews (they really didn't do the show justice), but the show itself came together really well...
Looking forward to the rest of the season.
....

LMAO... And I thought *I* had a chip on my shoulder...F's sake, you make some of the douchebags around here look like saints, and people I'd drink with.
Renegades MAY blow... I haven't seen it yet, and I'm not a fan of the baggy pants, skater boi, art style... Or the A-Team-ish proposed storyline, or the whole concept of Bio-Vipers (Sorry Gyre, I know your a fan...)
But it's in the introductory run, so now is the time to sit back, and have a moment of quiet contemplation. If it fails, you had more than your say and when it fails, you can be the first to say "I tolda ya' so". Maybe as the series runs it's course it'll improve, maybe not. But if all TV/Cartoon series were based on their premier episodes we'd all be on a Rachael Ray forum, not a Joe forum.
Take heart in the fact that POC dd well enough to have that line last a while longer. So put away the thesarus, Hush....Wait....Watch....

One of my biggest issues with Prime animation was the Transformers mouths...their odd shapped...like sex dolls.
As for Beast Machines the two issues there were the change in tone, its way darker than Beast Wars ever was and also was extremely metaphysical, the other problem was it was a VERY slow build story wise, but the final few episodes were a hell of an end fight, especially Prime vs Megatron.

I liked Resolute and Prime more. It just seems... uninspired. Well, from what I've seen of the 2nd episode. Missed the first one. I did like the way CC made that Serpentor-like line at the end. Oh, and if anyone knows what happened to Ripcord, could you PM me. I missed that part.

Yeah when I saw the mouths in the initial trailers I was like WTF?
The metaphysical aspect of Beast Machines turned me off, as well as the slow build up. BTW, feel free to spoil it, how did the fight between Primal and Megatron go about? I heard Primal sacrificed himself, but what exactly went down? Did he and Megatron still have the sparks of their G1 predecessors in them?
Hopefully Renegades has some longevity, great writing/characterizations are key to this. We've never had a long-running GI Joe cartoon that aged well.

Basically Megatron had all of Cyberton's sparks, all that was left was Primal. Megatron set himself up in the Primal Prime body...they fought all across Cybertron's landscape, in the end Primal forces Megatron into and the two fall down this shaft that reaches Cybertron's core while doing so he reformats himself with his techno organic componants and Megatron with his pure techno and the techno virus Megs unleashed on Cybertron...the result...all the sparks are released back to their bodies and all of Cybertron now has a balence of both Techno and Organic.
The fight though was kick ass.

Well written? This was absolute garbage, even worse than Prime. The animation is choppy. The voice acting is subpar. The plot was nonsense. Dr Mindbender is a complete idiot. The joes being the enemies is the dumbest idea ever. Not to mention they turned General Hawk into an asshole. I also hate what they have done to Lady Jaye, and Cobra Commander is just as bad as he was in the movie. Oh yeah, and do they really need to show Snake-Eyes' ninja moves every few minutes? We already know he is cool, we do not need it emphasized every time.
With that said, I have no desire to watch any more of this travesty. I would rather watch Sigma 6 over this shit again.

The animation was stylized. Dismissing it as choppy, as if all the designers had to work with was Mario Paint and half-trained, blindfolded Axolotl...
isn't a fair, nor particularly sound "critique." The art was intentional, as explained in the interviews before Prime and Renegades aired. The backgrounds are supposed to look 'painted' and they needed an animation/forefront concept that would work well against said backgrounds. I'm not saying someone can't dislike the animation style... but it's not weak or lacking.

So, here are my issues with these episodes:
-How many commercials can Hasbro squeeze into a 30 minute cartoon? How many times can you replay the first 2 minutes of the show? The beginning was really bad, and the forming of the team made absolutely no sense. Are we really to believe a team is formed in less than 6 hours of people completely unfamiliar with one another to transport someone to a base on an unauthorized mission on the orders of a rogue lieutenant? At least it got things moving, but that's the best I can say.
- Bio-vipers prove the Joes are not too bright. Why? Because Duke figures out in one episode that electricity seems to kill a bio-viper. In the next episode, he is clueless how to stop them. They keep shooting the Bio-viper, SE keeps hacking them and acting like "that will do it!" and the animation, predictably, shows the viper re-forming. I would like to think most people would realize, "This didn't work before. Let's do what DID work before." Literally took a few minutes before Scarlet thought, "Hey, electricity...."
-But the writers throw us a curve ball - electricity doesn't kill them - although they certainly implied that before. You have blow up weed killer inside them. What Duke used to kill it wasn't really explained, and not sure why the tank exploded unless it was under very high pressure. And why did that work when spraying them with lost of chemicals didn't seem to do much? Small plot hole there.
- The infamous ammunition issue: you run out of ammo when it helps the plot, otherwise you have unlimited ammo. I liked it better when they were having to conserve their weapons. Makes more sense for a rogue team.
- Why did Scarlet need THIS team when she had SE? Why did she seek out these traits when it seems they were just a security detail? An airborne ranger? A "tunnel rat" extreme survival expert? Roadblock would have made sense if he was the driver as he seemed to be a mechanic - but he never drove. Why seek out an obvious leader if you want to be the leader?
- Hate the once again re-imaging of CC. Why does every artist want to change what was really perfect initially? I do like the hologram - that was smart - but why not the battle helmet or mask?
- There is a lot to like - Baroness with the accent, Cobra being smart, Mindbender being a little crazy but normal looking, Hawk being cautious, Flint being a much greater presence, Lady J being resilient, Scarlet not being just the female Joe. The story got better but I only hope the writing improves. It was far more mature than I expected but wish they did more with what they have. Seemed to be some really bad editing in the first 10 minutes. I think now that the story is moving it will improve.

It may be the reason those particular individuals were chosen is revealed later.
The use of the plasma rifles and the sword perhaps were just to use what was on hand to slow the Bio-Viper down.
I imagine they decided to merge the ROC style of COBRA Commander with the classic look. I admit I'm not in love with that particular element of the show, but it's OK.
I don't think the show was perfection. Marvel had plot holes. Sunbow had lots of them and animation errors, et cetera. I think the thing taken as a whole has been excellent so far, though.

The animation was stylized. Dismissing it as choppy, as if all the designers had to work with was Mario Paint and half-trained, blindfolded Axolotl...
Some of the animation I saw was choppy though, but it's due to lack of budget. Let's take for example Studio Gonzo's works that some of you are familiar with.
Low budget= Sigma 6
High budget= Afro Samurai
What do both have in common? Both were animated by Studio Gonzo, but the difference in budget was very obvious by the animation.
Maybe towards the end of the season or between seasons, we can see Renegades animated movies with a higher budget and the increase in frame rate/fluidity should be obvious. For me, there is a notable difference in some scenes, some of the talking parts looked choppy but for Snake Eyes, his action scenes are animated much more fluidly and seamlessly.
Maybe by season 2 the studio will get a higher budget to play with.
I did get to see some of TF Prime now, and the animation is much better than in the trailers. I'm impressed by PRIME.

I don't think they were being lazy. Even simplified 2D designs that are highly styalized, like the designs of Transformers Animated, take a lot of time to animate, just not as much as more detailed designs. Animation is very very very labor intensive. This is the same reason why not all comic artists can be animators, even if they style they use is likened to animation. While both penciling a comic and animating a design via line(pen/digital/pencil) are labor intensive, I would definitely say animating 1 episode of animation is even moreso.

A lot of those are valid to some extent, but keep in mind a lot of those problems are present in 90% of the live action TV drama and movies out there. I've seen far more egregious plot holes and outright ignoring of the laws of physics on shows like Heroes and 24, and at times it makes me want to pull my hair out but i also know that if you put anything under a powerful enough microscope you'll see imperfections.
Compared to any animated series out now, I think Renegades more than holds its own.

To be fair, Resolute was always meant to be just 1 long movie-like episode, but split into parts to be broadcast initially while it's intended format would be saved to premiere on TV 1st. Whereas the Renegades team are animating 26 episodes, so as much as I'd like Titmouse style quality/fluidity from each episode of Renegades, it simply won't happen. Maybe if we get animated interval movies between seasons, or maybe even during the season finales.
I think most of us are going to revere Resolute because it was the only GI Joe cartoon that was catered to an older audience, and in doing so, it succeeded with it's intended audience; us. Realistically though, to expect a Resolute-esque series from Renegades won't happen. Different intentions from Hasbro, different priorities, different budget, different end goals. I don't think Resolute was ever intended to broaden the fanbase, reinvigorate the brand, and get kids to buy toys. Those are goals I think Renegades is aiming for, because GI Joe has not had a strong, wide-spanning media tie in since the Sunbow cartoons(I'm talking commercial appeal, not the comics, I prefer the comics). Resolute seemed more like a love letter to the fans that grew up, and the toys? Most buyers who bought the Resolute sets are adults, not kids, and Resolute even turned die-hard anti-Snake Eyes fans into fans who feverishly wanted a Resolute Snake Eyes figure.
So to compare Renegades to Resolute and to think the former is better, it really isn't a fair comparison at all. Whether Renegades surpasses its Sunbow predecessor remains to be seen, but it can't hurt if it does.

Thanks, it was an eye-opener the 1st time I experienced it 1st hand at school, had no idea animation was that labor intensive until then. It's a cycle of continuous rinse/repeat/rinse/repeat, then making sure that whatever is animated actually looks right in motion, et al. One screw up can set you back hours or more.

Or Xander's best friend in the first ep of Buffy. Whedon wanted that guy to appear in the credits like a regular, but the studio wouldn't put the money up for two openings.

So, here are my issues with these episodes:
-How many commercials can Hasbro squeeze into a 30 minute cartoon? How many times can you replay the first 2 minutes of the show?
The commercials were pretty ridiculous. It seemed almost like we got twice as many as we should have. There seemed to be the commercial breaks that made sense and flowed with the show, and then just as many that seemed like they were forced in there, and kind of stalled the momentum of the show at points.
It was really bizarre, but I suspect that there is more going on behind the scenes that we'll find out later. I don't think ANYONE besides the Joes is on the up and up.
To be fair, they are all fairly young and while the Joe we used to know was the "best of the best", these guys seem like a bunch of dupes. I don't necessarily think they were chose for their proficiency, but their skill sets, and their ability to be manipulated.
These guys strike me as more your "Average Joe" grunts. Not any part of an elite fighting force. I knew alot of not-so-bright guys when I was in the service. The ones that don't ask questions, or aren't smart enough to, seem to make rank easier. So take that for what it's worth. I think Scarlet is just a pawn to be honest.
Yeah, that all seemed kind of sloppily handled. However, I think most of the time they were using the Bio-Vipers almost more like a plot device, then a real problem, or mystery to be solved. Where they go with it might be interesting. However, at this point, I hope they don't drag it on too much longer.
- The infamous ammunition issue: you run out of ammo when it helps the plot, otherwise you have unlimited ammo. I liked it better when they were having to conserve their weapons. Makes more sense for a rogue team.
Well, let's be fair. That's EVERY action movie or show EVER.
Again, I think they are all being played. I don't think Scarlet is half in the know as she thinks she is. Or atleast would like others to think she is.
- Hate the once again re-imaging of CC. Why does every artist want to change what was really perfect initially? I do like the hologram - that was smart - but why not the battle helmet or mask?
Personally, I really love this look. Other then the Hood, and original Battle Mask, I have to say this is my favorite. I even like it better then the metal mask from the movie.
- There is a lot to like - Baroness with the accent, Cobra being smart, Mindbender being a little crazy but normal looking, Hawk being cautious, Flint being a much greater presence, Lady J being resilient, Scarlet not being just the female Joe.
Yeah, I LOVED all the females this time around. I really liked that Flint was sharp enough to out think the Baroness and that he's retained that kind of "outside the box" thinking man's soldier personality. I don't trust Hawk at all, though. I think he had more to do with this then we know, and he just left Scarlet and the Joes in the wind. Maybe, I'm just jaded, though. :/

Alright, so I've been thinking about it and the comments like "it's sucky suck" etc are getting bagged on because they're not constructive. Well I'm doing the same thing, but just for it. I'm not adding anything to the conversation. My shouts of "I loved it" are just as meaningless as the unexplained negetive comments.
So here...
Duke and Flint's dynamic has so much potential! The little bit that was thrown will make the chase epic! They seem to have a pretty sweet history. We only got a glimpse but I'm sure there's a lot more to it.
Mindbender, at first I could not stand him! Then he really grew on me and i got what you were doing. The changes that were made make the character so much more relevant than he has ever been. He's a lot more relatable now than as an Orthodontist that went insane... started wearing metal suspenders and no shirt and got it to the brain washing game.
I love the 3 different groups' dynamics. Very diverse personalities and once again there are little hints thrown in that let the audience know there will be a lot of inner conflict. Lady Jaye and Duke's past! Her teamed up with Flint. Oh. It's going to be good! Dr M and the Baroness had some great give and take. The Renegades are definitely going to have some problems as well. Scarlett has a very strong personality and she's going to butt heads with the team. They are totally setting up a love triangle as well with SE, Duke and Scarlett.
I love Cobra set up as the new Umbrella Corporation. Very current! It makes Cobra a believable entity. Not some group that was huge, yet seemingly popped up out of no where who holds telethons.
I'm still on the fence a little bit about the Commander's look. Not sure how I feel about the mask. With Charlie Adler doing the voice though you could have him parading around in a clown suit and I still would love him. My hesitation can probably be attributed to just clamoring to see more out him.
In some of the pull away shots a lot of detail was lost. Nothing unexpected there. Standard for 2-d. It didn't take away from or pull me out of the story at all though. A couple jumpy moments, but it's season 1 of a property that is luke warm as far as revenue goes. No one is dropping transformers money on this production yet. Much like later eps of Batman TAS and Wolverine and the X-Men the story and character interaction was good enough that I hardly even noticed when the animation would get a little hinky. I was too focused on the characters to get jarred by the animation.
I give the show an A. I am so down for this ride! They kept it filled with action and they had some hokey but needed comedic moments to bring everything back to reality and to explore the humanity of these characters. GI Joe is not a super hero IP. It needs the reminder that these people are human and they have frailties. The action beats were sick. Snake Eyes vs anything will keep every 5-35 year old bouncing up and down and I hate ninjas! I felt like a kid again and it brought me show much joy! I am so thankful this is where GI Joe is now. I knew it was in good hands but still I was blown away.

Saying "it sucks" contributes nothing, what you're doing is at least contributing lulz.

I found the series works a lot better if you look at it as about a bunch of dark, moody vigilantes who're trying to secretly do their mysterious work in spite of the interference of hardcase government agents.
...it just happens that they spend most of the screentime on said government agents—a bunch of loose cannons with poor impulse control, planning skills, or understanding of US law, who're even running afoul of their own superiors—for some reason. Artistically, that's kind of a brave direction to go with. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/images/smilies/smack.gif :(

Well, I haven't had time to dig back through 47 pages of posts, but I'm thrilled to see that it at least generated enough discussion for 47 pages worth of posts!
I will admit, it started off a bit slow. I wasn't 100% sold on it after much of the first episode. But it really seemed to find it's groove, and by the end of the 2-parter, it was rocking!
I really wasn't a fan of the Bio-Viper and hope to see him go away, but the rest of it was amazingly well done. Character deaths (and disintegrations!), a very serious action-oriented tone.
Very impressed.

Liked:
The Baroness
All of the Cobra Vehicles (want toys now....)
Flint
The fact that Roadblock is not Heavy Duty
Coherent, continuing storyline
did not like:
Mindbender - just annoying.
Bio-vipers. I see that they are liked here. I was just shaking my head at the whole concept.
Hawk. Horrible redesign in my opinion.
the utter stupidity of the joes.

I came into Renegades with a very low expectation. I wasn't feeling the art style when it was first shown. The 20-30 second clips that we were getting just wasn't doing it for me. After watching the first 2 shows tonight, I must say: This looks like it's going to be good. First I'll start with the good.
Things that were good:
The Baroness! She is awesome. Very true to her 25+ year history. She's devious, in control, well drawn, great voice acting and the highlight of the 2 part show for me.
Mindbender. the first few times he talked, I was like "oh man, this 16 year old boy is going to be annoying", but he really grew on me and I like how they have handled him.
Flint. He's a badass and a pimp. He's always been a favorite of mine and I don't see this changing with Renegades.
The action! The action was great. The show is for kids, but what does that really mean? Kids now a days play call of duty and GTA. It's in my opinion that shows for kids need to get up to speed and accept violence. It wasn't at the level that I would like but I was very impressed. Good shootouts, SE was tearing it up and the explosions were nice!
Ripcord Died!!! This is most likely a makeup for RoC. It's pretty obvious that he will come back but it was still cool. I actually cheered.
The story telling was very good. Very good pace and they stayed on track. The only thing that needed work was the code name intros but I'll get into that later.
Cobra. At first I wasn't feeling the idea of Cobra Industries but I gotta admit, it not only worked but it's great. I can't wait for how there going to use Cobra going forward.
Scarlett. It's great seeing her actually do stuff in her field. She's actually a agent and it's comes off great.
Duke. He's a stiff ultimate soldier and he's so predictable... but honestly, thats how I think Duke should be and it works for me.
SE. He's a badass! Thats it lol. It's obvious that he will be the star of the show and the kids are going to love him. I'm also happy that he's mute. He better stay that way :)
CC's voice.
next I get into what I didn't like.

After two episodes, I would say it is the second best animated Joe (behind Resolute). I'm just not a fan of any Joe animated series, really...
Problem here is without a good cartoon kids don't like it and we don't get cool toys...thats what chaps my ass with the slackass approach to this. They sucked me back into this addiciton..they must continue to feed it...i need more plastic crack! and like any substance addcition you build an immunity to it over time and you need better and better drugs...well Resolute was the equivelent of columbian pure grade coccain and renegades is the equivelent of street crack watered down with 3/4 laundry detergent....

Things that were not good:
Snake Eyes "ninja music". Do we really need "ninja music" to come on whenevr he goes into action? Seriously? This was bad and needs to stop going forward.
Tunnel Rat and Ripcords comedy. It was way to cheezy and just flat out annoying. It won't stop and it's what they need to do for a kids cartoon but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
Cobra Commanders outfit. It will most likely grow on me but as of right now and the first 2 shows: I hate it. The one eye thing is just stupid. However is voice acting is top notch.
The nickname introductions was not done well. Having Ripcord give everyone there nicknames and having it all happen within the first 5 mins sucked. This should and could have been done better. It's in the past and the joes have there names already but I didn't like how it was done.
The intro to the show. It's very simple but it's lame.
Bio Viper. It's a nice start for a first enemy and it shows Mindbenders presence but come on, it's pretty silly and I don't see them going away.
The art style. It's growing on me but it's hard to like it. I hope it improves.

I wonder if we're wondering if the Bio-Viper(s) will make re-appearances or if they're just in the opening episodes like The Germ.
Right, that's kind of what I'm hoping. Spraying their enemies with weed killer is gonna get old after a few episodes...

Things that I'm still up in the air about:
Hawk. I don't like his look, but he's been good so far. I hope we get some flashbacks some day and see him in action.
Lady jaye. Her voice is hideous but I like they way she's drawn and her attitude so far. She needs to let Flint hit it :)
Destro and MARS. Baroness made a refrence to him but we haven't got to see or hear him yet. I can't wait.
Overall, the first 2 shows exceeded my expectations and I think it's going to get better. I will be adding this show to my DVR.

For me it was one giant ep... as I think back, since I just fast forwarded through all the commercials... I can't even remember where one ep left off and the other began. LOL.
And I definitely agree about the Bio Viper... so hope it is a one and done deal (which I think it is). I hope Bendy moves on to create something new... *cough* BATS. *cough* LOL.

I came into Renegades with a very low expectation. I wasn't feeling the art style when it was first shown. The 20-30 second clips that we were getting just wasn't doing it for me. After watching the first 2 shows tonight, I must say: This looks like it's going to be good. First I'll start with the good.
I came in with really no expectations except to see a fun show... and I did.
The Baroness! She is awesome. Very true to her 25+ year history. She's devious, in control, well drawn, great voice acting and the highlight of the 2 part show for me.
Baroness rocked.
Mindbender. the first few times he talked, I was like "oh man, this 16 year old boy is going to be annoying", but he really grew on me and I like how they have handled him.
I hate him. LOL.
Flint. He's a badass and a pimp. He's always been a favorite of mine and I don't see this changing with Renegades.
I wasn't even expecting him to show up... when I saw him expecting the scene I was like, "Holy Crap! That's Flint!" LOL. I love his look and that he seems to be General Hawk's XO or something like that.
Ripcord Died!!! This is most likely a makeup for RoC. It's pretty obvious that he will come back but it was still cool. I actually cheered.
I think he's dead. WOOHOO! LOL.
Scarlett. It's great seeing her actually do stuff in her field. She's actually a agent and it's comes off great.
I'm in love with Scarlett. LOL. I mean Ripcord dies and she's doesn't really even care. Cold blooded. I love her. LOL.
Duke. He's a stiff ultimate soldier and he's so predictable... but honestly, thats how I think Duke should be and it works for me.
Yah, so far Duke doesn't really come off to well in this show, not like Resolute Duke anyway (my fav Duke ever, lol). But he's a rookie right now, so I guess that makes sense.
SE. He's a badass! Thats it lol. It's obvious that he will be the star of the show and the kids are going to love him. I'm also happy that he's mute. He better stay that way :)
I LOVE SE. I LOVE that he has the Arashikage Tat on BOTH shoulders. LOL. I LOVE that he and Scarlett are all buddy, buddy already and that Scarlett presently thinks Duke is just a Grunt.
Things that were not good:
I didn't like that little Flint hates Duke backstory. Lame. LOL.
Lady jaye. Her voice is hideous but I like they way she's drawn and her attitude so far. She needs to let Flint hit it :)
I LOVE LADY JAYE. She's cute and she's cool!
Overall, the first 2 shows exceeded my expectations and I think it's going to get better. I will be adding this show to my DVR.
I hope this show never ends... I hope all the popular ARAH Joes make guest appearances throughout the season. It seems Cobra got the shaft in the first two eps though... no different types of Vipers showing up or anything. Thought for sure there would have been some Alley Vipers showing up.

You can't give a proper Rusty Iacon without a mouth.
Ok first of all that was fucking hilarious and I fell off my chair, you really are untouchable tonight.
Now about the topic at hand, I wasn't really feelin it, I watched both episodes in total. And I'll probably continue to watch the show to see where it goes. I personally don't think it will stick, for the long run anyway, yes we will get toys, but Hasbro will just bag that pre-maturely like they do with every other incarnation of joe.
Now my reasoning, the cobra logo does not look like a cobra. I don't like that the show looks like it will be concentrating on a core few characters, and my vision of joe is an all encompassing unit, as is Cobra. What I like about cobra in the past too is the over the top characterizations of each of them. Baroness to be fair looks promising, I can't wait to see them introduce Destro. However, CC looks and sounds rather banal. I need more from a supreme villain. The Bio-Vipers are loved on here I know, and it shows after reading 50 pages of posts. However, they were bland as well. I would've liked something else to throw at the joes, maybe something IDK, something fluffy, maybe with horns, . . . lulz. Not really. But something different. The voice acting I actually didn't have a problem with, I thought it was worlds better than anything animated we've seen so far. Not resolute but that was lightning in a jar that will never strike again. The animation does actually remind me of X-men evolution, not sure who said that. But in closing I can just say, it wasn't something I would get all hot and bothered about, but I didn't think it (wuz da sukz) either. Just not feelin it.

I LOVED IT! When I watch something G.I. Joe I only really have one standard for it to reach, "Does it feel like G.I. Joe?" And to me Renegades totally felt like a Joe cartoon.
I watched the whole thing with a dumb smile on my face; I had a blast!
BTW I am in love with Renegades Scarlett. LOL.

You know what? For all the crap the original series takes, this actually did feel a bit like the original in spots. Not a lot, not overtly, but there were little bits in the way the characters interacted that told me the guys who made this were genuine fans of the original, kinda like Transformers Animated, which this also reminded me of.

I seldom speak on the forums, but I figured if there was ever a time to throw in on a thread, it'd be one like this.
"Renegades" is great. It's not Sunbow. It's not Larry Hama. It doesn't have to be either of those things to be good. Sure, I have my reservations, but I'm also looking forward to see where this series goes.

U.S. Department of Labor - Find It By Topic - Health Plans & Benefits - Continuation of Health Coverage – COBRA (http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/health-plans/cobra.htm)
The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) gives workers and their families who lose their health benefits the right to choose to continue group health benefits provided by their group health plan for limited periods of time under certain circumstances such as voluntary or involuntary job loss, reduction in the hours worked, transition between jobs, death, divorce, and other life events. Qualified individuals may be required to pay the entire premium for coverage up to 102 percent of the cost to the plan.
COBRA generally requires that group health plans sponsored by employers with 20 or more employees in the prior year offer employees and their families the opportunity for a temporary extension of health coverage (called continuation coverage) in certain instances where coverage under the plan would otherwise end.
COBRA outlines how employees and family members may elect continuation coverage. It also requires employers and plans to provide notice.
