Got a sideshow firefly while on vacation. Anyone ever travel on a plane with one? Curious if all the weapons and ammo will cause a prob with airport security? Sounds silly but the like to make examples of things sometimes.

I'm not sure. If you don't feel like being inconvienced, or causing some panic or inconvience to others or unless you absolutely need to have him with you while taking a vacation, I'd just leave him at home.

Then in the instance that he doesn't want to risk being inconvienced or to inconvience anyone else, I'd recommend traveling to the nearest po and forwarding it home.

I carried on some Arctic Hiss tanks and Stingers a few weeks back. I doubt it will be problem, if you are checking it will be no problem at all just make sure to put in the middle of your luggage.

Ship it, it ain't worth it and you'll be in a world of sorry if you have an issue at the airport and they take it. :(
I'd ship it, INSURE it, and be done with it.

Why in the world would it be a problem? Its not like it is a full scale replica. The "PLASTIC" guns are 1/6th scale put it in the x-ray and be done with it it's a toy.

I would do almost anything to save money... if it meant lugging a Sideshow FF around with me everywhere then so be it. LOL.

I remember when I was younger my cousin ran his little waist pouch full of Transformers through the X-ray machine at the airport and he got stopped along with his parents (must have been transformed Megatron that got him in trouble, lol) and then he had to actually transform some of the toys to prove that they were toys to the X-ray people. LOL.
I had Joes... nobody stopped me. LOL.

I had a conference out in San Diego a few years back (real conference not comic con) I had no desire to lug all of that to the airport so I went to the post office and bought a box and some tape and sent it all home.
Total cost was about a $20 including supplies since it went out media rate but it was worth it simply not to be inconvenienced. I know you cannot send Firefly out at Media Rate but it is still something to consider.

In addition to Megatron being a gun, Transformers had metal parts in them back then. That's probably what caused the problem. Unless the Firefly has some normal sized replica bullets or something that it comes with (which I don't believe to be the case), then I don't think there'll be a problem.

There are plenty of examples of the fascists at the TSA panicking over such things. Walking through airport security reminds me of what it must have been like to live in East Berlin in the 1970's.

I don't see a problem , This past comic con I flew back home with many 1/6th weapon and bodies (in my checked bag) and 4 Slaughters in my carry on.

Shouldn't be an issue. A plastic toy is not like having an IED in your carry-on. They can tell the difference.

No airline Nazis freaked out about Firefly, made it home safe and sound. Thanks for the advice everyone, even if it was a silly question.

Glad Firefly made it OK.
I guess it was because you were on an internal flight.
About 5 years ago an English family were checking in to return home to the UK, hit the x-ray and they pulled the 6 year old boy aside to check his hand luggage.
Inside he'd bought a 12inch Gi Joe and they wouldn't let him take any of the weapons on board because they were replica firearms.
When they said are you joking? They just said rules are rules.
This made the newspapers and TV news.

this here^.
and if you absolutely must take it on the plane with you you can always call the airport ( i would assume at least) or the airlines and see if theres a restriction. (believe i can understand wanting to take it with you on the plane. I would too cause you can only read them skymall magazines so much lol)

Are you insane? Comparing the TSA to fascists in East Berlin is the dumbist thing I have ever heard. I don't see the TSA locking people up and throwing away the key for voiceing their oppinion against the government. They may want to examine some things more closely but it is their JOB. Wake up if it wasn't for the TSA more planes would have been flown into more buildings. Shut up and move through the line. If you don't like the security don't fly!

Hmmm...but if it's the exclusive, then Firefly is a plastic toy with an IED in his carry on. Does that make him an accessory to tiny replica terrorism?

The only problem will be the fact that you will most likely be charged for an extra bag and it will not be handled very delicately in the process.
That last part is the one I'd really worry about. I'd hate to spend that kind of money on a collectible and have it lost or trashed in the process just trying to save a few more bucks. At the point you've spent that kind of money on a figure, you might want to spend a few more to make sure that it's shipped and insured.

Going out of New York, I got stopped through the scanner with my bags full of joes.
The guy asks me "are these gijoes or star wars?"
I was very tired at this point having spent 25 hours on the airport because my retard friend forgot to book our hotel.
"joes... why?"
I replied
He continued:
"Then I can't let you leave the country, you can't bring those"
me getting a bit irritated and annoyed at this point snapped at him somewhat:
"why not!?"
his reply:
"because I want them"
He let me pass, just making fun with a fellow collector -I wonder if he's on the tank lol.
So yeah no problems here either
