Give me a little time. I'm currently putting Storm Shadow together, but Beach Head is next. I'll take some shots with this portrait face later today if I can.

Thanks for the picture post.
You know, for me BH is one of those characters that look best with the mask on.
My guess is the reason SideShow did his unmasked portrait is so to keep him separate from all those covered face Cobras (plus it does make a neat accessory)

Ok, Any help putting my Beach Head together would be much appreciated. Does the Crossbow stay in pieces and get put into the back pack? Where does everything go?

Once again, I say an instruction tutorial for whenever one of these figures comes out would be excellent. I know my Snaek Eyes and Storm Shadow don't look quite right either.

Thank you!

I don't know why, but sitting here, slowly and carefully putting this figure's gear together is actually very relaxing. Almost like fishing or whittling might be.

Update

Got everything together ok, but I can't figure out the back pack itself. I just can't get those little connectors onto anything.

You should be. He is one of the most awesome figures I've seen in a long time. Remember back when you were a kid and you were looking at your Beach Head figure with all those pockets, the cool crossbow on his back pack... This Sideshow version is everything you wanted that figure to be.

So here's an odd question for those checking in, anyone know what knife that boot knife is modeled from in real life? Assuming it's modeled from a real piece, though that seems to be what Sideshow does.

I just opened up mine and overall he's an impressive figure- I am not however impressed by his plastic cover with a friken STICKER for a patch...I think they really cheapened him up by doing this and I could have passed now on the exclusive figure...

Just got this figure! It's amazing! It was my first Sideshow purchase and I will be buying others now. It is so awesome to have such a great version of my favorite Joe character!

One question though, does anyone know why Beachhead's hair color went from a reddish to a more mute brown?

Got to ask: Why the Red(Maroon?) Beret?

The Army, in general, wears black today.

Rangers use to wear black (until the Army "stole" it). Now they wear tan.

Airborne wear the Maroon (Red?).

Special forces wear green.

Of course, I suppose the answer is the "relaxed"/special dress code for SpecOps/GI Joe, but it would seem to me a gung ho ranger type like Beachhead, would be representing.

Nevertheless, wish I could afford to start collecting these. Sideshow really knows how to bring it.

Who knows but I would guess since the 25th Anni card art shows some red item under his shoulder top they assumed it was a berret I guess...I thought it was on the vintage card art but it is not there...though the vintage beachhead figure itself has a red square area on his left shoulder though but its not like a berret or anything on top of the shoulder.

No clue lol but its awesome none the less. Awesome terrific 100% kick ass figure he is. He is my first Sideshow Joe and i love him! He will soon be paired with Dusty to be kicking Firefly's ass down the street! I hope the continue to improve the Joe figures and I can not wait for Commando version of Snake Eyes...

Theres also some little loops on the back sides of his shoulders/traps right down from them, on 2 straps on the back of his tac vest, I had to use some tweezers to hold em in place and gently bend the lower part of the clip on the back pack's harness fasts and used those then attached the lower 2 to his belt

Actually, the Rangers originally wore tan, then went to black for a long time, then back to tan when it became regs for the regular soldiers. I've been out a long time and it confused the hell out of me when I saw a parade on TV. I was like "HOLY F*CK THAT'S ALOT OF RANGERS!" Then I found out about the switch in head gear. Kind of lame, imo, but whatevs.

As far as why Beachhead, a Ranger, would wear a maroon beret is that he's qualified to. Every Ranger and Special Forces soldier is required to be Airborne Qualified, therefore, they have earned the right to wear the maroon beret aswell.

If you go back to the early 90's when I was in, and there was no "Official" SF career track, an SF soldier had to pass Airborne Jump School, then Ranger School, then they could track for the Green Beret. They've gone back to SF being it's own career path now apparently, so Green Berets don't need to be Ranger Qualified. Back then, if you saw a Green Beret, he was also allowed to wear Black, and Maroon.

Now, a Ranger would be allowed to wear the tan, maroon, and black beret. Though, when in formation they are usually encouraged to conform to the unit. Atleast that was the case when I was in. One of our Corporals was Airborne, but he never wore his beret when in company formation because it made the unit look not in uniform.

I dig it too but Duke needs to lose the bucket. This is G.I.Joe, not actual military. He only wore a bucket in the Skystriker in the cartoons and I'm trying to remember if I ever saw him wearing a bucket in his v1 uniform in the comics.

TripleCP
03-02-2011, 02:16 AM
Duke's original action figure had a helmet, though, and the shot of him holding it in one hand is kind of iconic. I don't think his binoculars figured prominently, either but I'm glad I managed to get the Exclusive.

Beachhead's standard head sculpt looks great (I know some want real cloth balaclavas, but I think that would turn out bad). I'm also happy with how the Exclusive portrait turned out (much better looking in hand than in pics), and is how I displayed him until recently (with Dusty and Stalker on the way, my Joe team could look too much like a rainbow of berets). It'd also probably make a good head swap for the Viper, as the red cloth mask would conceal the chewing tobacco look that many dislike.

Yes, I'm glad Sideshow is staying true to the original figures. Also, depending on Army regulations and individual unit discretion, red berets would be worn by Airborne Rangers.

Beachhead is my first Sideshow figure and I am hella impressed. There seems to be a lot of play value just with the gear he comes with if I can figure out some good environments. But I still wouldn't mind having a vehicle or a base station or something. Sideshow won't replace Hasbro, but I'll definitely be buying more.

I just got Beachead today - Slow getting into SS, the price kept me away for so long but, after getting Commander, Duke and Flint at really reasonable prices, I'm hooked!!! After having them in hand especially Beachhead, they are well worth the money!
As far as the beret question that has been popping up in the thread, I have 2 possible answers 1 is card art as many have sadi on here already, the other, is a little more complex- Rangers wear the tan (or previously black) beret when assigned to Ranger Battalion, Airborne Soldiers only wear Maroon (red) when assigned to an airborne unit - GI Joe IS an airborne unit (ie on jump status) so, no tan beret and yes to red. LOL
