Cool, I figured they were gonna make someone else to go with that new diorama.

They should change the head sculpt, it's the same as the previous release of the sniper. I would prefer a trooper tho.

I'm guessing if they do an exclusive of this figure, it'll probably be a swappable head w/ red face mask.
I'll probably get one tho.

Wow! That's Sideshow for you. Why make any of the cool Cobra characters from the 80's when you can get money for generic crap like this? Just slap a Cobra logo on any crappy 12" soldier figure from Big Lot's & you're all set.
It's funny, when I first heard Sideshow was making a 12" GI Joe line I immediately imagined 12" B.A.T.s, Snow Serpents, Crimson Guards, Vipers & Eels. Looks like I need to lay off the crack.

Sideshow wants you to buy every version of the cobra trooper before giving you a altered crimson guard (remember Firefly ?) or a rainbow snow serpent. This is exactly what is doing Mattel with the classic line of MOTU.

Here's an idea sideshow... Make a character that someone actually wants.

I understand why Sideshow does this, it's cheaper to basically redo the Sniper in Desert colors than to design a Real Viper, Snow Serpent, Bat, etc etc.. So it makes business sense.
The problem is that Sideshow goes the extra mile and loads the guy up with so much cool gear and makes him so badass looking, it's very hard to pass on it. Still, at $120 a pop, this may be the first Sideshow figure I pass on.

Sad thing is, I like all the troop builders. However with our shop closing next year I've had to pass on all the Sideshow offerings until I land something stable. Being an adult sucks. lol

He looks good, but at $120 a pop, I have restricted my sideshow collecting to main characters only. No troops. I have no problems buying repaints/redecos in a retail line, and I understand why they are made, but...no.

it's probably made to buy them some time on making something else. it would be easier just to toss out something like this for the time being while they have a bat in the process. i really have no idea though..

Ok I think we all knew that this would be coming after Dusty was released. Too bad they did not do a Hostile environment Cobra figure(s) like the 3.75 figures did!! Now a specialized group of Cobra troopers to up against Dusty would be awesome in my opinion!!!

He will look good fighting dusty on the desert dio.

-Yawn- Such a wasted opportunity to do an awesome Desert Scorpion figure.

I still want a snow serpent to go with my recon waypoint. I hope it's not just desert officer and sniper. I don't see any troopers in the dusty promo pictures.

Well, I do have one question...if they are making this figure to go with the Dusty and Diorama- why bother making him a Sniper? He aint gonna be snipping anyone in such close quarters...but alas my fellow Hissers- I will be getting this one to go with the diorama and Dusty...

Well, yeah, but at least the original MOTU line was mainly reused parts, so I don't mind so much with the new ones either (unlike some of the stuff Hasbro's done with the 25th line...).
I don't mind, though. The Cobra Trooper "repaints" have all been pretty cool so far.

Yeah, exactly... but still, none of the Cobra Troopers were $120 - I think it was more like $90? So that's not so bad.

Well, yeah, of COURSE we knew - they had 'em in the damn preview pics right along with Dusty and the Cache environment! :)

I don't see it that way. When they do a figure like this, it's like an "extra" in the line. Obviously they only have so many resources to devote into the line to design/produce entirely new figures. I'd rather they devote their time to some of the more key characters before they do anything like a Desert Scorpion, but I don't mind this, as it obviously didn't take much time and effort to produce, yet is still pretty cool.

Um, maybe Dusty is sneaking up on him? ;)

So what I'm getting from this figure is that Sideshow has no ideas, has completely stopped trying, and is cutting costs by re-using molds and clothing patterns while increasing retail prices?
Remember back when Sideshow would make awesome figures and then sell them for $35?

if this figure isn't $89.99 , then we will know Sideshow is just trying to milk it's customers.

It's cool. I'm not going to buy him, but it's an easy money maker for Sideshow. They don't have to put any research or development on him and he'll still make money. That money will help extend the line and make more characters possible.

New pics on Sideshow's production blog. The Cobra Desert Ops Officer can be seen, too. Looks like they won't even get new headsculpts.

Debating the Sniper, almost definitely passing on the Officer. That brown webgear might be an improvement to the standard blue-uniformed Officer, though.

I'm debating as well, I think price will determine if I get him or not. I really wish he had a new head.

They could have even changed it up a bit by switching sculpts. Using the old Trooper or Officer sculpt as the new Sniper. That way, they'd atleast look like different soldiers. Instead of Cobra having flown one sniper halfway around the world. I'm sure they have more then one sniper, after all.
