It seems that Sideshow is determined to produce characters that have the most traditional military or para-military oriented themes and uniforms. I think we need to get a more even mixture of the classic characters that are important to the GI JOE fantasy, but not necessarily as contemporary military - this includes Zartan, Destro, the Dreadnoks, Baroness, Scarlett, Lady Jaye, and a few others.

I'll actually eat my hat if they ever produce the Dreadnoks.

The issue is that a figure like Duke, Flint, Dusty, and even Firefly appeal to a broader cross section of 1:6 scale collectors than does, say, Destro or Cobra Commander and I suspect this is why Sideshow is going the route that they are. Regardless, eventually Sideshow and Hasbro are going to have to get about the business of producing the figures that GI JOE fans want. Let's quit beating around the bush.

Having said all of that, I think everything they've done so far has been a solid representation of the subjects.

All the Joe I'd want them to make are more traditional looking. So I'm good with what they are doing. Dreadnoks would suck in my opinion. I want an Airborner or Hit & Run. Muskrat, Recondo, Outback, Shockwave are must makes

Will Sideshow do other characters? They will, just look at the Star Wars line. They released a Gamorrean Guard and it also took them so long to make Darth Vader too.

Dusty looks promising, and I may get him if he looks awesome in the full pictures. As for the other characters to be released, I bet Zartan will be next. In fact I thought Sideshow said he would be next most likely, but we now get Dusty. Either way I think Zartan will be next, and at the least it should be a member of Cobra/Bad Guy, for it seems that they alternate between good and bad with just about every release.

I am looking forward to see his headsculpt/face paint. Like the picture shows... a desert joe will help sell some easy repack desert troopers. They get more money from their already existing molds and patterns. Also the more military the figure the broader the appeal.

Exclusive is an anti-tank round for the FAMAS...kind of weak imo. I was hoping for a head sculpt w/o face paint.

Having a beret in addition to the helmet was a nice surprise, but when did Dusty ever sport a goatee? Was SSC so eager to do a Joe with facial hair that they couldn't wait until they did a Joe that actually had some?

I'm (mostly) kidding. I can guarantee that he will grow on you. I started with two Star Wars figures (swore I'd never pay more than $40 for them) and then I just kept right on buying. Once I had the 1:6 bug completely, I bought Medicom Star Wars (Clonetroopers, Stormtroopers, Sandtrooper: see below) and then Medicom superheroes too.

I finally stopped when I looked at my Rocketeer and told myself I just spent $125 on this and now I'm going to pose it and leave it alone. Then I decided it was too expensive a hobby. These awesome GI Joes (and the lameness of the PoC line) are trying to pull me back in.

I have not caught the SS G.I. Joe bug, but the Dusty 12" looks cool. The picture I really liked was the night time dio with Dusty behind a concrete wall and two Cobra Troopers ready to open fire.

Yet again, another thing that shows me if you put to actors in those Cobra Trooper outfits the would look MUCH more menacing the the Cobra "Turtle" Vipers in Rise of Crap. Why oh why could Sommers not have gone with those outfits for Cobra enemies.

I totally love the FAMAS rifle and the headgear. The exclusive version's rifle grenade accessory isn't enough to warrant a purchase. I'll just get the regular edition.

All looks good to me except for the goatee. Spoils it a little. I know Sideshow like to introduce a little real world into their figures, and a desert trooper would probably be out in the sandbox for days on end with no access to shaving equipment. But a goatee? Dusty it isnt. A bit too French Foreign Legion perhaps.

It really is for the best that they stick to both male as well as more conventional military figures until they have something beyond the current body sculpt available.

They're obviously having some issues with a fully pose-able female body, which is why it looks like Baroness will instead lead off the Premium Format line.

Same goes for Zartan, the Crimson Twins, etc. See how Storm Shadow looks w/o the undershirt to get an idea of why they should hold off any bare-armed figures for the time being.

Really? I don't think Dusty's '85 camo pattern looked anything like the Desert Storm camo... Sideshow's is much more accurate to the original figure.

Crimson you might be right, we now know that they are working on a bigger body-type for a Destro and Gung-Ho, which is only the right way to do it. I am a stickler for scale, and those guys would look sill being the same height as everyone else. But, with that being said....I want a Zartan.

Got mine. Interesting that the Exclusive is the same price. Its possible that the Duke hands we've seen are just fillers, as it mentioned a "generous" number of swap out hands and well as both standing and "action" boots.

I was kinda hoping that they'd go with the 1.1 body, rather than the taller 1.2. I expected Duke and Flint to be above average height, but making all the Joes invariably taller than the Cobras is not good.

I got way more of those 2 then I could possibley want from the 3 3/4 in stuff hasbro regurgitates...it's awesome to have a source of the other characters out there in updated awesome formats that retain the proper homage to the OG characters. Mainframe, Leatherneck, Blowtorch, Repeater, Cover Girl (pending how good the Lady Jay female body turns out) would all also make terrific visits along this journey from Sideshows re-envisionment....

Looks good, but a bit 'generic' - I realise Dusty has always had that 'regular soldier' look, which is why I think they should have chosen a more distinct character. As it stands, this Dusty looks like a standard Sideshow/Hot Toys military release.

Actually, that's what I like about him. It'd be easy enough to pick up a few "tan shirts" for Dusty to lead on a Cobra Desert Sniper hunt. He'd look great leading a team of generic operators.

The figure looks great but I'm a little disappointed its Dusty. I was kind of hoping for Destro, Zartan, or even Baroness or Scarlett. The GI JOE people I talked to at the Sideshow Freaks party last year did say there would be female figures eventually.
