View Full Version : Storm Shadow, mask/iconic costume vs Reloaded/jacket look

The most recent pictures of Storm Shadow from the upcoming live action G.I Joe movie show Storm Shadow sans mask. His new look is reminiscent of the G.I. Joe Reloaded comic, as opposed to a more iconic look used in the RAH, and current DDP WWIII books. It is not known whether he will adopt a mask in the movie, or whether there is a mask to be donned all along. However the images debuted last week of a maskless Storm Shadow has already aroused heated discussion amongst fans.
So HissTankers, which do you prefer, a more iconic look with mask, or the new look unveiled last week without the mask? Me personally, I like the iconic look with mask, it is more menacing and readily identifiable, much like Snake Eyes costume in the movie. However, since at this point we do not know if he will don a mask or not, I want to know how the HissTankers feel at this point with regards to this issue.

The problem with the new pictures of SS is that he really looks like Amidala in white gear (same gun, same kind of cape).

The looks is ok but what really missing is some freaking Cobra Logos!!!
Back to topic, I would prefer him masked like any other lethal ninja!

Even with a mask, the Storm Shadow movie costume would still suck.
Without a mask, it's complete and total crap. Did they get his costume from the Salvation Army store, or what?

i don't see any cool factor in a ninja in a suit coat

Of course I'd prefer Stormshadow in a mask, and I fully expect to see him in one at some point in the film. I just don't think a mask is going to be the make-or-break item of the entire movie.

I like the look of both. Storm Shadow didn't wear a mask or a white uniform in the Joe vs Transformes WW2 comic and he was still clearly seen as a ninja.

True but he would have looked better with it. Speaking of which, the way Snake Eyes got his visor in that one....well the reason he had to wear a mask in that one...THAT was awesome.
They probably also had to watch the budget too
Compared to the amount of money they will use on the CGI and special effects, the mask is nothing.

does it really matter?
it makes great sense artiscly to place the bad ninja in white with no mask, and the good ninja in black with a mask. It plays with what people are used to and draws attention to the characters and their personalities

To me, its like Optimus Prime not wearing a mask/mouthplate in battle, and we all know how that turned out last year. Both of them having a mask, and ninja costumes shows that they are the rivals, giving the viewer the sense that a match is inevitable between these two. For that matter, its like saying, "oh, that chrome mask Destro has, yea OUT, and, Cobra Commander having a mask or hood, yea OUT too, lets give him a nebulizer and goggles".

It turned out making millions of dollars and reinvigorating a toyline that had dwindled due to poorly made Pokemon-like cartoons.
It also turned out splitting the fan base the same way as Storm Shadows Costume is.
Some like it,
Some Hate it,
and some just think its cool to see storm shadow in a movie no matter what he looks like as long as there is a kickass sword fight.
Can I have that third option added to the poll?

Dude, that's not only my favorite Joe story, but also may fave graphic novel, above watchmen, V For Vedetta and the Killing Joke.
That one moment made a friend who borrowed the book like Snake Eyes. Before that, he was always "What's the big deal? Just some ninja..."

A company that makes a ton of money needs no ideas from a moderator on a gi joe fansite.

Snake Eyes in that storyline was a breath of fresh air, you get insight to his character via his monologue, which is revealing of his personality, something oft not mentioned in the Marvel/DDP storylines. He wasn't over used, he wasn't the all mighty deus ex machina, he was just a secretive guy who had to deal with dire means of survival.
"There are two things that can stop bleeding, fire and time, and right now, I don't have time".
Also with regards to a maskless face adding more personality, it doesn't. If that were the case, why don't we show Snake Eyes without mask during the entire movie, because it adds more personality, and hell he is the most popular character, the money maker, and adding personality, by removing his trademark visor and mask, adds even more money and credibility right?
It turned out making millions of dollars and reinvigorating a toyline that had dwindled due to poorly made Pokemon-like cartoons.
Last year was a compromise, he wore it in battle. The whole debate last year, was whether he would have one at all, most wanted it on, a few off, in the movie he had it on in battle.
and some just think its cool to see storm shadow in a movie no matter what he looks like as long as there is a kickass sword fight.
True but most want the mask on at some point. They did the same for Snake Eyes, so why not his chief rival>?

MASK, because that is what defines Storm Shadow. Also show his Tattoo sometimes...

even a hood he can pull up with maybe a metal face plate he could slip on that covers only lower portion of face(black with vent slits/holes maybe?). i think his snow camo/urban wear would better fit the movie, i mean white ninjas? really? the tatoos better surface at some point damn it!!! not opposed to one seen with a suit coat and shades, maybe during a casual interaction, initial recruitment or the like. lets hope they dont murder his image and attitude.

The one they've shown looks like a bad Jet Li film. They didn't have to make it look exactly like the original but at least make it look a little more usable than the International Male look.

Like with the mask more but still think he looks like a metrosexual ninja nurse.
What bothers me more is the (rumored) Korean origin.

Even a Mortal Kombat-esque mask and costume would look better than the costume they have going on in the movie pics.

He'll have a mask in the movie.
Is it any worse than Snake Eyes' mask having a mouth? Why the Fu(& does he have a mouth on his mask?
Storm Shadow looks awesome in this outfit. He's a mercenary (ninja = paid assassin), and in today's world, that's how high paid mercenaries dress. lol
I'm ready for all of the changes. Hopefully, this only sucks half as bad as the Transformers movie, and have an actual story, not just parts of five different ones like in the Michael Bay steaming pile.

The worst thing about the pics is the lighting, there is much more detail on Storm Shadow's costume than anyone can see. I grew to like it, especially with the mask, and it looks quite awesome on the book covers. I have a feeling the figure is going to be awesome.
