Cobra Commander's Mask

Someone leaked a picture of a mask.
Someone else said that it was the mask Cobra Commander will wear in the movie.

I don't know if this is true or not. For all I know this mask could have absolutley nothing to do with Cobra Commander.

However, if you will bear with me, I want to illustrate a point.

I know that we're just whiny fanboys whose opinions don't matter in the final estimation in regards to making this film. Don't bother to write me anymore essays about how my opinion as a fan of GI Joe doesn't have any bearing on how a movie about GI Joe gets made.

I get it.

Just tell me this:

If the Commander were only to wear ONE mask throughout this movie (not that he does, but IF...) which of the following would you prefer?

If i had to choose one I'd go with the hood. Hood or Chrome Dome either or, those are his signature looks. It'd be nice if he turned out something like this......

Classic battlemask has always been Cobra Commanders best look. The chances we'll see it in the movie are slim, but we'll see, who knows what will happen in the sequals. I've never been a huge fan of the hood, but I don't hate it. That leaked mask looks cool, but just not for CC. I've always like the Fred VII Batlle Armor but CC wore it for what, 2 issues?

THAT's what our august commander may look like??? After seeing Snake-Eye's duds, It's difficult to summon up any optimistic doubt.
I had to go with the mirrored battle mask. In my opinion, It's the greatest piece of villanous headgear ever devised. It reveals absolutely nothing, giving the looker only his own reflection to look apon.

Classic battle mask, simple, nostalgic, and served a purpose in the comic. Not to mention, kept his identity hidden. It made sense too, if forcibly removed, it had a self destruct mechanism. In battle it shielded his head.

Well on one hand hoods exsist. Never quite seen any thing like the crome dome in real life, or film. But I could see the problem with the hood being, getting it not to look like a sheet with two holes in it Halloween style.

Make the eyebrows and the portions that wrap around the eyes latex. This would allow for the shape of the eyes to remain constant instead of looking like a pillow case.

I think I'd prefer the blank chrome mask, although it might make him too similar to the chrome head of DESTRO (then again, as we don't know what Destro will look like, that may not be a problem). The chrome would look really good from any angle and work in any lighting - Of course, they'd have to use a lot of CGI to blank out the camera crews being reflected in it!

I do like the hood, but in the 'real world' it may not have the impact it should and could have a few casual viewers chuckling.

of course it should be the classic battle mask so that's why it won't be. they'll screw this up too because they'll assume we'll want to see the actors face instead of having it covered up. unfortunatley,this reminds me of what they did to optimus prime. those retards put a mouth on him just because they didn't think him having a faceplate would convey enough emotion. are u kidding me?

I voted for the hood but after more thinking, I like the battle mask. with the mirrored mask you can get some really good cinematic effects you that don't come out as well in the comic. I can foresee the final battle with Duke's reflection in the mask as the two confront one another.

That 'Mystery Mask' looks, to me at any rate, like the mask Destro's ancestor could be forced to wear as punishment in the hinted at prologue/flashback scene.
If so, modern-day Destro could sport a more technical version of it.

Since its set 10 years in the future i believe that it will be a battle armor suit of some sort. The only reason i say this is because the power suits or whatever you want to call them that the joes are wearing. CC got to have a meaner verson of one IMO.

When I think of Cobra Commander, the hooded visage is what comes to mind first. To me, that's his definitive look, with the battle mask only being donned when going into battle.

That's why you don't mess with a classic look, it's iconic and part of what makes the series what it is.
The hood/ battle helmet are both perfect and are defining of the character. Imagine if Batman Begins had completely changed the Batman mask....that one detail would have wrecked the movie. If CC doesn't have his classic look it's not really CC.
They could even add some type of armor for him when he goes to battle, just keep the silver face plate (which for some reason I just don't think they'll do....)

anyone who has read the script will know that his "mask" is supposedly protective breathing apparatus (hmmmm darth vader?) and im guessing that leaked pic is the one we will see,maybe a navy blue or skull white in color tho.

That'd make sense if that was still Destro's storyline. But it's not.

We already know Destro is gonna have a regular head until he gets blasted in the face with acid or something similarly stupid. And then he gets nanites that cover his face, which may or may not look stupid. Perhaps the nanites exist to explain why it can look like it does and still move.

Why the Mass Device series? Honestly, what I've heard about the movie sounds far superior to that. How about the Trucial Abysmia storyline? Or the Zartan/Ripcord/Candy storyline? The comics had more translatable-to-film material than the cartoons. Otherwise, we'd be getting a movie about giant-sized ears of corn shooting out kernals while the Joes had to take cover. Ugh!

The only way I'd want to see that mystery mask used, is as a base to glue a hood to. It's got enough deffinition to hint at something sinister under the fabric, and it would keep the mask in place, so there's no scenes of the eye holes shifting in awkward postions. It would also keep the mask from being moved by the actor's breathing or speaking.

Cobra Commanders mask for the movie. . .The nostalgic side of me wants the chrome mask and cloth covered one. I mean that IS Cobra Commander!! But I am also the girl who wants a Cobra Commander with a voice that reminds me of the old practice of castrado.

However this is not the old days, and I know we wont have that. So what do I want to see? That mask is just more fodder for you to complain, it may not even be for the gijoe movie, and if it is, probably not for the Commander. You know, even from the Beast Wars I couldn't accept Optimus with a mouth. In my Transformers universe the face-plate transformers don't actually have mouths. There are transformers that have mouths and transformers that don't Optimus definitely doesn't. EVER!

Check out Issue #9: Explosive Thoughts, in the new comic pack series (CC vs. Tripwire). Towards the end, CC reveals his "new compact battle mask", which he wears underneath his usual hood and which looks a lot like the mask people are speculating about. (I'll try to scan it from work tomorrow).

I hope the classic battle helmet at least makes an appearance.
