View Full Version : What IMPROVEMENTS do you WANT made on the anniversary figures?

Okay folks. The 25th anniversary figures are sprinkling into retail, and some of you have them, some of you will have them soon. These have met mixed reviews. They are great figures, however there is room for improvement. With that said, what improvements do you want for these figures? Here are mine:

-Biceps sculpted with enough room to enable 90 degree elbow movement, all around.

-stiffer plastic for the hands. Not hard ABS, but a hard PVC or hybrid. Basically, soft enough to not snap the parts off, but hard enough to grip the weapons and not be prone to stuck joints

-crotch joints sculpted with enough room for full hip mobility.

-A switch to a different factory. Its been said this weekend that some of the problems with the first waves were due to the factory in China making unauthorized changes to the molds.

-battle pack figures posed in neutral position, or in a way as to not make hands and other softer parts difficult to remove from the blister. This can result in damage given the soft nature of the hands.

-no more weapons displayed in figure's hands in package. This increases plastic warpage and contributes to a weakened ability to hold weapons.

-If possible, when doing a repaint, retool some parts of the figure as well. For example Dragon Storm Shadow from the upcoming 2nd Cobra pack would have been much more exciting had he had sculpted dragon scale texture on his legs as well as on his back. Retooled elbow swivels with sleeves instead of a bare arm would not only look better, but be more accurate to the 2004 Dragon design.

-Make proportion exaggeration more minimal. For example, the upcoming Shipwreck has newly sculpted lower arms. The sculpt for the arms is fine, the size is just too big however.

-If vehicles are decided upon next year, give preference towards classic vehicles and designs in regards to reissues or all new sculpts(remakes). Let all new vehicles unrelated to the anniversary come in at late 08 or early 09.

I just would like the implovements to include the ability for the figures to sit properly.

I want them to go back to the 'old way' of casting the figures..............you know the one's with the O-ring and harder, more durable plastic.........like the rest of my collection..........

Fix the hip sockets

Arm are fine for me all but the Duke mold gets 90 degree angles (However I did notice that even that isn't quite enough, the old school Joes can go past the 90 degree angle mark)

Did I mention to fix the hip sockets? :)

That's all I need, the rest of the figures are fine for me

The cobra officer I have couldn't go 90, so I had to do some shaving on the plastic.

I really do not want them to change a thing. If it is not broke do not fix it.

i would like the plastic to be a little more durable (no way these guys stand up to the kind of abuse their '80s brethren took). i don't dig the hand/wrist joints either. i almost pulled flint's hand off today.

I wouldn't mind some better hands. I found both Storm Shadows have difficulty holding the swords cause both the hand and the sword are too small.

The plastic does seem a little soft for the hands, but for the most part there hasn't been any major issues with the other figures. Certainly nothing I couldn't easily fix.

My single pack Storm Shadow holds his weapons better than the battle pack one, I think its because he was packaged with his weapons seperate from his hands. I think hasbro shouldn't pack weapons in hand because it causes warpage and makes the grip looser on the hands.

I didn't like the new figs at all. They basically look cool in the packages and thats all. Handling them they feel weird and flimsy. They don't move easily. I miss the hard 80s plastic.

I was excited when i finally found some of the figures but then felt depressed after i opened them.

Did you get any stuck joints? As a safety precausure, I popped mine in the freezer before opening. I actually like the new plastic, because the chances or broken crotch pieces and thumbs is very very slim compared to the old.

They may not move easier but the resistance works in your favor since they are not as prone to looseness as the old ones.

I like the sculpts a lot, its amazing seeing how much better they look compared to their original counterparts. Especially Scarlett and Storm Shadow.

The easiest fix for loose joints is to deconstruct the legs and apply a smidge of hot glue. Also, if something is inexplicably tight, running some hot tap water over the joint allows you to bend it more easily. Both these methods were safe enough for me to use, perhaps they can help.

As for improvements, I would say continuing this line should be the first improvement, since it is already selling like mad. Also, improving the clearance in the pelvic region should be attempted, and possibly some better upper torso sculpting on the female figures so they all dont look like they have scoliosis. Overall, I think these figures are well done though, and have few real complaints.

howdy, First post here.

FIX. THE. ELBOWS.
so they can have a 2-handed grip on their dang weapons. the 80s ones could do that...

otherwise i think they're ace. the sculpting (overall) is amazing.

oh, forgot. put the pegs at the FRONT (or middle) of the stands, not the back. duh.

No real complaints, but I only have two so far. The ability to sit down (like riding in a vehicle) would be nice.

My single pack Snake Eyes is great, but I missed the VvV one, so it's nice to have a sturdy replacement without worrying about snapping thumbs off one of my vintage figures.

THE biggest complaint from me is flimsy joints and hands not being able to hold a damn thing. Almost all the Cobra 5-pack figures have that problem. Except for Destro, who has a pretty tight grip in his right hand. His left hand is a big WTF, though...I don't know what he's supposed to be doing with it, but nothing fits in it. Don't know why Hasbro molded it that way.

And why does he have a holster if nothing fits in it?

Oh, and why is Baroness' gun designed to NOT let her hold it? Another big WTF.

And I just now noticed the articulation thing everyone is talking about. It would be great if these could actually sit in vehicles.

You won't miss the VVV one much man, trust me. The single pack Snake Eyes you have beats it. The single pack Snake Eyes seems to do everything the VVV was trying to do better; make a great homage/tribute to the 85 Snake Eyes. The VVV Snake Eyes can't even hold his weapons well, some of you complained about the anniversary figures not being able to hold their weapons, trust me, VVV Snake Eyes was worse in that respect. Add to that, he didn't have a space to hold his sword nor did his knife fit into his sheath well! Sure his new sculpt sword and 2 guns were great but he could barely hold them!

Anniversary Snake Eyes is the clear winner, I have both and I can honestly say VVV SE was dissapointing, while the anniversary version was not.

The detail and added articulation is fantastic but the hands and wrists need a margin of improvement to hold the weapons securely I really hate Roadblock's left hand all hands should be cuffed like the retro 80s figs and the plastic firmer as like the newer Starwars 30th figs but what good is it if your figure cannot secure his weapon...The head/face sculpts are great, paint apps great and the added artculation. The o-rings are gone I think is a plus but let's get these figs to hold their weapons....

nothing to complain about improvements or what not. i just hope Hasbro would reduce the number of repaints and focus more re-introducing characters.

and hopefully if they can improve of the retail stores' stock supplies, then it would be easier for me to grab single packs. hahahaha

I agree. I would also like more 5 packs.

Examples:

Crimson Guard Pack
Tomax
Xamot
3 Gaurds

Dreadnok Pack:
Torch
Ripper
Thrasher
Monkeywrench
Road Pig

B.A.T. Pack
Mindbender
4 B.A.T.'s

Joe Packs could just be classic Joe's packed like
Wild Bill
Recondo
Dusty
Bazooka
Mutt

or whatever.

Basically I just want more variety and save the troops
like Vipers for battle packs.

Agreed. Almost all of my figures can't hold weapons in their hands straight. And if you so much as breathe on them hard, they fall out of the hands.

Oh, and the ability to sit down like the old Joes. I cannot emphasize that enough. I should not have to mod my figures to make them sit.

A few of my gripes:

1) the aformentioned crotch problem. I would like my figures to be able to interact with the older ones (IE: SIT IN THE VEHICLES)

2) Foot pegs seem to be incompatable with the older pegs (new Cobra troopers cant stand in the terrordrome)

3) What happened to the backpack holes?

4) I was hoping that, with new sculped figures, we would get new sculped weapons,....(oh well, Marauder fixed THAT problem)

5) Whats with the sculpted closed hands? Cobra COmmander and Destro's left hands are useless!

Enough of Snake Eyes! He seems to be the easiest character to troop build with and that sucks!

I love the pistols and holsters, I'd love near every character to have one.

Maybe even a spare gun with everyone, like Shipwreck. That way I can build up a nice spare armory.

I wish they had a screw in the upper back, for easy disassembly... I hate the idea of cracking figures opened, and then having to glue them to do a custom...

I am not a big fan of the way the heads are done, as their jaws/chins look weird... The heads look a little robotic (think "I Robot") with the way they sit on the neck.

The hand and sitting issues are also on my list, as I have already broken a Flint hand off trying to remove it for an "easy" customization (Hasbro reps said that these were made with customizers in mind???).

However, that being said, I am still fairly pleased with these figures, and am hunting them enthusiastically... Found all three Waves already!

Hey, I know how Flint is inaccurately sculpted without the gloves and his sleeves rolled up. So I was thinking that you could use the Shipwreck figure and just simply do swap. Has anybody tried this yet? And does anybody know if the arms on the 25th figures are easy to pop out and swap?

longer pegs on the back packs..............which i see was done with beachhead..........and i totally agree with the bicep/90degree issue.
and the raised logo on the base is a bit hindering....but i am 100% happy to be getting the stands..........hear that hasbro? star(cough)wars.

Sure, you just have to crack open the upper chest is all, then you get to glue it back together when you're done

Actually there were 13 (counting the vehicle drivers) and Hasbro said at the convention that they want to do all 13. We've already gotten Stalker, Scarlett and Snake-Eyes and Hawk is on the way so there's 1/3 right there :)

Flash and Grand Slam deserve original head sculpts. I mean, come on Hasbro... it's the vaunted 25th line and you can pay up enough for a unique head? Even the original Grand Slam and Flash had different heads.

Flash had Steelers head and Grand Slam had Grunts head.

Didn't even change the paint.

Weak. 25 years and we're still supposed to buy that certain memebers of the team look identical except for hair color?

You can do better Hasbro.

I think the sculpts are great. And honestly they look better than what the pics show on the sites IMO. There are still some of the common problems as with the old ones. The backpacks wont stay in very well on some. The guns do not fit into the grips very well. I never understood why they dont sculpt the trigger finger seperated to fit better on grips. The thing is I am putting them on a shelf to look at and admire what Hasbro has done by putting the memories of old days back into my adult life. So yes there is room for minor improvements I suppose. Then again are you buying them to play with?? lol, as an adult I am satisfied almost 100%. I just hope they continue the line.

improvements that i would like to see:

1)backpack hole standard for all figures
2)trigger finger sculpted for all figures (more important for troopers)
3) double joint elbow articulation
4) Ball joint leg articulation
5) No sculpted weapons on body parts(example- Firefly's boot knife - i think i would look better if it was a removable knife)

i'm really digging what hasbro is doing so far, everything thing they have done with the lineup have been excellent. i'm looking forward to future waves and improvements!.

I for one think the wolf that goes with Snake Eyes is horrd! I think the original one was much better looking if I remember correctly other than being way too small. That is a little disappointing to me.
I also do not like the way they made Shipwreck look. I dont know quite why but he was always one of my favorites and I wish he looked a little better.

The nose is pinched in on one side, and there is another issue with the face. I remember being surprised at this when I first looked closely at my figure.

i noticed the accessory belt on Snake Eyes and Stalker for example fasten with the nub going away from their bodies...on the Cobra troopers/officers the belt fastens with the nub towards their bodies causing the belts to sit funny, kinda cockeyed, sometimes to the point of unfastening...this belt needs to be reversed like the Snake Eyes belt

My only request : stop making the same characters over and over again.

No more Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Duke, Destro or Cobra Commander please. We now have them. Fine. There are hundreds of characters to choose from in the existing joe lore, other than those overdone ones.

Ditto for the repaints. We can live without any Tiger Force silly repaint. I hated them in the eighties, and I'll hate them more now if they are ever released (and unfortunately, I know they will be somehow...)

Here is my top 10 reason to make a perfect Joe’s figures:
1. Better paint job, look at Shipwreck face, its sloppy paint job - I think Star Wars do better Job.
2. Accessories belt, and straps need to be tighten and softer materials, in this case it forms along the body better.
3. All the excessive plastics that formed the figures’ part needs to be trimmed – especially on the knees. So it can look a bit more quality.
4. Flint needs gloves. That is one of the important features of Flint – his beret and gloves. Major disappointment.
5. For the hand articulations joint, it is better to add a joint right at the wrist. For instance, Storm Shadow, Duke, Flint – same mold with Duke – and etc… would be nicer if the join at the wrist not at the middle of the arm.
6. Snake eyes V2 is not accurate; I like older face mask, and I would like to see the pockets on the ankles – another highlight feature of the figure that Hasbro miss.
7. Lady Jaye, another disaster. Let start her all over again. I would like to see Hasbro redo her face – slimmer face just like the cartoon, removable hat or no hat at all.
8. Give some figures a bit more muscles on the arms please. I did not remember Firefly, snake eyes that skinny. Are they on diet?
9. Gung-ho face just looks like someone from the TV – I cannot recall the name – but not the Cartoon.
10. STOP repeating the same characters with different paint jobs. I don’t need that many Storm Shadow(s), Snake eyes(es), Cobra Commander(s.) Instead, adding Quick Kick, Tomax, Xamot or Falcon... I know it is cost saving to create as many different figures using the same mold as possible, but sometimes things cannot cut the corner. It’s very rewarding to create more figures with more molds.

I wish since they are going through the trouble of resculpting the figures that they would modify some of the items. We don't need the WWII pineapple grenades anymore, and the M1911 pistol has long been replaced. I know some are more recent but they should have made some adjustments IMO.
